Since the name and history of this forum is "General Discussion..." it seems unreasonable to expect propaganda like "big win for Hillary" to go unremarked upon. In that sense, the Hillary 12-Step Group is the ideal venue for making shit up and not getting called on it. Welcome to DU.

71. Not yet. We drove home from the grocery when the first returns from North
Edited on Wed May-07-08 01:05 AM by Old Crusoe
Carolina came over the radio and thru the dashboard -- a huge Obama win projected in NC with LESS than 1% in -- so we knew it would be a very sturdy percentage roll-up for Obama in Carolina, and it was.

At that hour -- maybe 8:00 or so Eastern -- Clinton was leading in Indiana by 35%, although the report did not say what parts of the state that % came from.

Within the hour it was down to maybe 12%. Then by 9:30 or so, maybe 10:00 o'clock, the numbers began to collapse for Clinton and despite CBS projecting her the winner in Indiana, the numbers kept collapsing for her and rising for Obama.

It was announced that Lake County, an Obama-rich stronghold, had not counted even 1 vote by 10:00 p.m., and that they wouldn't even get around to begin counting until an hour or two later.

Within the last 2 hours or so, Obama's number rose and rose and rose in Lake and Monroe Counties, but evidently not quite enough to win.

But. More than enough to knock her out of the race. She gave a victory speech in Indianapolis at the Murat Theater, with Evan Bayh cheerleading the crowd, but even as she spoke, the numbers began to betray her. She lost Tippecanoe County, for example, home of Purdue. She lost Monroe County, home of IU. And she lost Lake County by a landslide. Even in counties where she won, there was a significant show of support for Obama.

During her victory speech, she did touch on unification but the speech overall was lackluster and undynamic, sounding hastily cobbled together by a committee. The Big Dog stood behind her, looking like he'd spent the entire day fucking pumas. He was pale, exhausted, and looked for all the world like he needed someplace to lie down and sleep it off.

Obama's victory speech, in North Carolina, was better written and better delivered. It's up on his site and several blogs if you want to drop in and see how it went. I think you'll like what you hear.

Clinton at last was declared the victor in Indiana, losing Lake County big but not quite by enough to erase gains she made in southern and rural parts of Indiana. She "wins" the Hoosier State, 51-49 with 99% of the votes in, but will do little better than a tie in delegates in Indiana, and will lose the delegate count big in North Carolina, easily erasing her gains in Pennsylvania two weeks ago.

The cancelation of her public appearances tomorrow is an ominous sign for her supporters. There was talk on MSNBC this evening regarding her acknowleding that she's lost, withdrawing from the race, in exchange for the Obama treasury reducing her campaign debts, which are considerable at this point.

It wouldn't surprise me if she held a press conference to withdraw tomorrow, early afternoon.

Christ knows it's long overdue. :hi: :dem:

purpose either, but if it wraps this thing up by close of business tomorrow, I'll look the other way while it happens.

Like you, I want a clear shot at McCain's Far right-wing kook voting record.

I'll pony up for more money. But we have to pick a nominee first, and I'm hoping Mrs. Clinton gets the religion soon.

Sleep tight.

58. 2% is a big win?
Interesting math there. Any gains she made in PA have been wiped out by Obama's huge win in North Carolina. Indiana will probably be 37-35 for Clinton, maybe 36-36 if it gets that close.

Sorry but Clinton didn't gain a thing tonight, and I'm hoping she heard that death knell.

74. For Hillary, a "big" win would have been with 69% of the vote
Now she'll have to get 86% of the vote in ALL SIX of the remaining contests to pass Obama in pledged delegates:

77-point or more margin of victory = blowout

72 - 76 points = a "real" win

40 - 71 points = good, but not good enough

11 – 39 points = a wash

5 - 10 points = useless

1 - 4 points = concession speech

102. You are obviously in need of a heavy dose of reality
Yeah Hillary would win Kentucky and W. Virginia if she stuck around, but she would lose by double digits in Oregon making it mathematically impossible for her to get to 2,025.

Also she has NO MONEY. Did you not notice her begging for it on national TV? For her campaign to continue it will sink further into debt, and nobody's going to want waste money on a candidate that clearly cannot win.

And I hope that Hillary will somehow magically get the nomination. But, realistically, she cannot.

But I still hope she gets as many delegates as she can between then and now! She has the opportunity to become a very powerful voice in the party, even if she doesn't win the nomination.

Seems like the better Barack's chances are, the nastier his supporters become, sort of an inverse relationship.

I'm in Oregon. May 20th will be my final vote. I was denied the opportunity to vote for Dean by Kerry's supporters who swore on the altar of God and all his angels that Kerry was electable. I want to vote for Hillary. Then I won't have anything to apologize for when the disaster arrives.

135. Congrats to Hillary on her big win.
Hillary is still IN this race to WIN it, but she needs more money.
NOW is the time to give until it hurts.
Forget the high price of gas, the rising cost of HealthCare, the exploding price of food.
Dump the Savings account and the College Fund and donate the money to the Clinton campaign.

Don't listen to the experts!
Remember, the only math that counts is how much money you donate.
If you're short on cash, you can put it on your credit card and worry about paying it off later, so don't let that stop you from sending more money.

If you really support Hillary, send $MONEY$ TODAY!
