The North Carolina Coalition for Verified Voting

The North Carolina Coalition for Verified Voting is a grassroots non-partisan organization fighting for clean and verified elections.

On February 24, 2005 - NC State Senator Ellie Kinnaird introduced The Public Confidence in Elections Act which passed with unanimous and bi-partisan support on August 11, 2005. Representative Verla Insko introduced the House Version H 238. The bill was drafted by the members of the Joint Select Committee on Electronic Voting. It became law, SL 2005-323 on August 26, 2005.

Post Election Audits were mandated by state legislators in August 2005. North Carolina became one of about a dozen states that conducts post election audits in late 2005. Following the loss of an estimated 4,400 votes on paperless machines in Carteret County in November 2004, the state reformed its election laws. In addition to requiring a voter verified paper ballot, the law requires random, manual hand to eye audits to check that the voting machines are counting correctly.

These people have fought for years to get a decent law passed in North Carolina requiring paper ballots and random audits. It's stuff like this that acts as a deterrent to election fraud.

Who knows what the results in NC would have been if they had no such law, no audits, no paper ballots.

NC elections are not perfect or foolproof by any means, but they are ahead of the game compared to many other states, thanks to the North Carolina Coalition for Verified Voting. We should all be involved in similar organizations in our states. As the feds appear to be doing nothing about it, it's up to us. NC shows, people can make a difference.

Here is a list of state and local groups you can join:

They also did a great job of informing people about robocalls, and not to believe them.

6. Think we could get them to clone themselves 49 times?
One for each state.

10. YES.
the structure is there. there are groups in nearly every state. what we need is more people to get involved in the state groups that already exist.

here's a list of state groups:

now everyone should look up their group, send then an email, and get involved! it's the only way we're going to fix this mess.

9. thank you for your kind words
NCVV was able to draw from a pool of seasoned activists, many already
involved in other causes.

And Senator Ellie Kinnaird (D-Orange) and Rep Verla Insko (D Orange)
put alot into this one piece of legislation.

We also had alot of help from national groups.

I'll pass on your kind words to our activists.

I guess that each state needs to know that it takes a long time to
make these changes, and that we still have a ways to go.

12. Ellie and Verla and NCVV and activists (NC and beyond)
:yourock:

Indirectly I think Edwards' run also helped NC gear up. But the push for election reform has been HUGE & NOT to be underestimated in this win!

I have always said (since seeing the corruption in NC elections first hand)--if you could clean it up you might see some surprises out of NC. It's not all just about "people coming in from other states," for one thing many of those are Republican. The influx has helped --but I would say that more to the point is the local coalitions (black, white, green and otherwise) that just would NOT knuckle under to the Jesse Helms juggernaut and rejected the criminal ways they hijacked the state.

I'm just an onlooker, really, but this is how I see it.

15. Yes we do - but after the rampant election fraud of 2004, voting this year felt so much
more secure from the getgo. In 2004, the unease with the machines was palpable.
