Barack Obama just became President tonight.
This is indeed the breakthrough evening -- and he may even win Indiana.

It's looking like he finally broke through the barriers Hillary set up over the past couple months to either test him or destroy him (I don't really know which).

He's the next President, folks!

1. No. He became the Democratic nominee.
There's a Hell of a lot of hard work to be done from now till November if we want to every say "President Obama".

7. That's exactly what bush the elder said about Clinton at one point.
No one thought a Democrat could possibly win in 1992.

33. McCain is the only one who has a chance. We aren't going against Romney or Rudy.
Edited on Wed May-07-08 01:42 AM by Carrieyazel
Obama could definitely blow it in the general. If the election were held today, (which it isn't) he'd lose to McCain.

I said the same thing right after Kerry's speech at the 2004 DNC.

But I hope you're right.

5. He may become the Nominee tonight. He will never become President.
Edited on Tue May-06-08 09:01 PM by smalll
That's just one reason why so many people support Hillary so vehemently. This man takes the nomination, mark my words, the day after Election Day in November, Democrats will be asking themselves, "WHAT THE HELL WERE WE THINKING?!?!"

12. LOL, read your own post and turn it around. Obama has the most popular votes, he has the most
delegate votes. Maybe that is why people support him so "vehemently". Look at the exit polls where 58% of the republicans that voted in Indiana said Obama would be the one to beat McCain. All indications are he is a winner in the primary season and will be the winner in the General Election.

16. mark Bill's words....it depends on what the definition of is, is....
there are no words to mark. Actions count, not words. The people acted by their votes.

That is what is, is....

18. Well, who thought he would get the nomination? He beat a strong field.
Barack is not my first choice, but he is a great talent. I'll stick to my previous prediction: Barack will win 40 states.

27. The people who support Hillary are akin to the luddites, Inquisitors, Flat Earth people, and all
other people who have refused to embrace change and hope in the world, and who cling to outdated values while the rest of the world moves on. Good luck with that.

30. You DO know that McCain is hated by the conservative core of his own party, right?
You do know that when he actually has to put himself up head to head with Barack Obama, he's going to look like that old fart Bob Dole did against the charismatic Bill Clinton. Unearth yourself from the bullshit of this primary campaign and realize that you're operating from the wrong perspective right now.

29. No time for complacency!
We have a presumptive nominee and one hell of a fine candidate.

Never for one second forget that the reTHUGs will pull every dirty trick in the book and invent some new ones to tarnish, smear, defile, and destroy him.

Now is the time to work on bringing our party together again and gear up for multi-front attacks by the GOP.

38. No. He got about half way to the White House.
What will we all do to make sure McCain does not make it into the oval office? He has won the battle, but he has NOT won the war. We need to stay focused in order to win this thing in November. I feel Obama supporters are going to let their guard down now and relax. This is far from over. He may not win in November. His odds are a bit better than McCain's, but he has not won it yet. We need to do something with Clinton's supporters before they leave and flock to McCain or there will be some very disappointed Democrats in the fall. Sorry to be such a bore, but I am a realist and know that we have not won anything yet.
