truth be told he is actually is using the glasses correctly.

They are night vision binocs, and if they are used in daylight with the lens caps on it fucks up the optics in some way. An alternative method of
sighting within the glasses takes care of daytime usage.

It pains me to say it, but in this case Commander Codpiece is not fucking stupid.

This may be the only case, however.
