if this contest was all about policy differences, we would not be saying it was about race, but much of it is.

The Clinton campaign has had a theme of late that how she does among white voters is what matters. After unabashedly going after white working class voters, she hasn't even tried to go after black voters in the same way. The implicit message is, white voters matter. That IS a racial message.

And that's why his supporters complain, hell, I not only complain, but when I saw this strategy unfold in January I changed my vote from her to him, my family was really shocked.

And the thing is, I never thought Hillary had much political skill to begin with but I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt for a long time, until she tried to kneecap another Democrat by minimizing his wins on the basis of race. Then she just plain lost me a white voter in a county that gave her the edge.

I don't think Obama will win in November. While race will play a role with bigots, I think there are other factors that will play a bigger part.

Given the choice of voting for a republican and a republican-lite candidate, I think that conservatives and republicans will go with McCain.

He won't get many of Clinton's supporters. He won't get a portion of the progressive left vote. He won't get a chunk of the teacher vote, the GLBT vote, or the non-christian vote.

He won't get all of the peace activist vote.

And, of course, he won't get the bigots, whether it's because he's black or because of his name or because they think he's a Muslim. :eyes:

All that together makes a significant number of votes he won't be getting, making it easier for McCain.
