If you can...

What's your sense in your area? Who are most of the people you know voting for?

5. S.O. is out working the polls but I'm stuck at work.
She's out working for Dr. Orentlicher today.

Most of the party people I know are in the Clinton camp but just about everyone else I've talked to is voting for Obama.

6. Indy Star Report: 'Hardcore' Republicans Voting Democratic
May 6, 2008

'Hardcore' Republicans voting Democrat

Star report

10:51 AM --

The two precincts at Broad Ripple Family Center selected Republican Jon Elrod over Democrat Andre Carson in March's special election for U.S. Congress. But by 9 a.m., just 21 voters in one of those precincts had requested Republican ballots -- out of 168 cast.

Amid heavy turnout, Republicans appeared to be crossing over in droves today in Marion County and suburban counties, where fewer Republican voters might impact down-ticket primary races.

At the Broad Ripple center, nearly 400 voters -- of 1,800 registered in the two precincts -- had turned out in the first few hours of voting. Among them was Meghan Ward-Bopp, 24, who went against family tradition and asked for Democratic ballot so she could vote for Barack Obama; she plans to vote for Republican John McCain in November.

"I'm a hardcore Republican," she said, "but it's about who I wanted in second place in case McCain doesn't make it. ... I don't like the way this country's been run in the last 20 years. I'm sick of the dynasty (of two families) that's been running things."

8. Not sure what to make of that
Picking the lesser of two evils in the other party in case your candidate doesn't win is different from strategic voting for the candidate you think will be easiest to beat, but either way, it's votes coming from people who won't vote for us in the fall. I'm fine with Republicans voting in our primary if they would at least consider voting for the candidate in the fall (I have talked to several Republicans who said that between McCain and Hillary it would be McCain for sure, McCain v. Obama they'd have to decide), but if they are definitely voting for McCain I wish they'd stay out of our primary, whether they are voting strategically or picking the lesser of two evils. I welcome any votes for Obama, but personally, when canvassing, I have chosen not to try to persuade hardcore Republicans to vote for him in the primary.

9. How is turn-out in Indianapolis? Have you heard?
Heavy turn-out there bodes well for Obama.

13. You will like this headline. "Clerk: Better get in line soon"
If you haven't voted yet, Marion County Clerk Beth White offered this advice just before noon: Go now.

"I'd recommend they get there right now, bring their ID and prepare to be patient," White said during a news conference in the clerk's office.

Polls close at 6 p.m., and White said turnout already is looking less like a primary than a general election. Based on reports from precincts, she said turnout may surpass the November 2006 election, when one-third of Marion County voters showed up, but might not be as large as the 2004 election, when nearly 54 percent of registered voters took part in the contest pitting President George W. Bush against John Kerry.

14. My sister in Bloomington and O's GOTV
Talked to my sister in Bloomington last night, call it a private GOTV call :). She picks up the phone and before I could say anything, she says "Yes, PStt, I'm voting tomorrow!" So, I asked her, "Getting a lot of calls?" She said that she had recieved 4 calls from the Obama campaign that day alone. BUT, she wasn't annoyed, she was EXCITED. She says that it's nice to be important for a change.

"Any calls from Hillary?"

NOPE.

16. Sis isn't active politically
That's why it's so exciting to see her be this involved. She's an independent, never been active and only registered to vote in 2004. She was a cynic and I let her come to Obama on her own. She works for the University as an editor and many around her are very active. While discussing issues with her peers, she talked about her issues, what's important to her and want she wants in a candidate. She wasn't even sure she wanted to vote. Then one of her colleagues told her "You're an Obama girl". This colleague was a Clinton supporter, but, made my sis realize that Obama was what she's been looking for.

It sank in and sis finally got excited. She dropped her guard, her cynicism, because Obama inspired her. I can't wait to talk to her after she's voted!
