After four primary elections, few debates and frequent phone calls, voters will finally decide today which 6th U.S. Congressional District candidate to send to Washington, D.C.
Five candidates — one Republican, one Democrat, one Constitution Party, and two no party — are vying for the seat held for 28 years by U.S. Rep. Richard Baker, R-Baton Rouge. Baker resigned in February to pursue a job at a trade association.

In the 1st U.S. Congressional District that is also being decided today, Republican Steve Scalise of Jefferson is running against Democrat Gilda Reed of Metairie for the seat vacated by Gov. Bobby Jindal. Also on the ballot are R. A. "Skip" Galan of Hammond (unaffiliated) and Independent party candidate Tony Gentile of Mandeville.
