My My. what a surprise-Matthews is moving the goalposts again . . .
Last week, Chris Matthews and his talking heads generally agreed that Hillary Clinton had to win BOTH Indiana and North Carolina in order to have any justification for staying in the race.

Well, big surprise - they've moved the goalposts. Tonight, his new conventional "wisdom" is that if OBAMA doesn't win both states next Tuesday, the race continues.

This comes on the heels of the pundits dismissing in advance a potential Obama victory in North Carolina because it's "expected" - the same people who fell all over themselves rhapsodizing over Clinton's Pennsylvania victory, notwithstanding the fact that IT was expected.

Hmmm.

Edited on Thu May-01-08 06:21 PM by BullGooseLoony
Well I guess that's just what Obama will have to do.

That is, of course, if they'll actually stick to their word that the race is "over" when he does...They sure didn't last time.

Clinton needed a double-digit win, right? Right.

And then they gave her another chance to destroy our nominee. Idiots.

21. He got the thrill for JFK, but "fell hard" for Nixon; removed his Bu$h button while lying about Gore
...I unplugged when he repeated the urban myth that Gore "invented the Internet" one-to-many times.

Wonder if the thrill up his leg has gone.

This man was thinking about running for Senator from PA (his home state). His Hillary trashing and misogynistic rants won't get him very far. The voters of PA are much too smart to elect Tweety to anything.

BTW, General Electric owned NBC and co-owns with Microsoft MSNBC. GE and TV in general have lots to lose if a Gore, Kerry, or Clinton got in office and started giving the public airwaves back to people by stopping media consolidation (what Gore and Kerry were about). Drugs ads are a big boon to the bottom line, but advanced countries that provide health care to their citizens don't allow prescription drugs to be advertised--why should the patient be asking for a specific drug? Having children demand sugar cereals is one thing.

MSNBC and NBC love Obama because they think he is their ticket to nuclear power plants everywhere (and GE will make zillions). With Obama, our trustworthy "green" energy President, nuclear power can rise again.

I don't mind nuclear power, but don't want plants on earthquake faults or being sold to the cheapest bidder. They also require a lot of care in their construction and maintenance, which requires money that GE executives and shareholders won't line their pockets with.

Obama voted for the Cheney bill and then pretended not to, attacking it on the campaign trail as being crafted behind closed doors (more than likely written by lobbyists). He neglects to say that he voted for it!

As for trustworthiness for nuclear energy, he chose Exxelon over his constituent's health! What's a bit of nuclear waste in your drinking water compared to the money for my campaign to become First Preener (Mr. Hopeity Change (TM))?

Maybe some people are catching on.

10. $12.50 a viewer, assuming it's generally the same people watching every night.
Awfully expensive, don't you think?

16. I never
get gigs like that.

I guess they try and get their money's worth by sticking him on Morning Joe, and those painful debate wrap up marathons, and foisting him upon us at other unwelcome times.

Funny thing about Chris is every once in a while he shows moments of sheer brilliance. But it's not worth watching to catch those few and very far between "broken clock" moments.

5. Well, using Hillary logic,
Obama can lose 11 contests in a row before he has to win another one, so it doesn't really matter what anyone else said.

6. The media only works to destroy the Democratic party until there is nothing left of it....
that would suit them just fine.

Then they can continue with profiting from big corporate tax breaks and deregulation heaven.

And then General Electric, Six largest Defense Contractor company in the U.S. can make more money for the new upcoming wars.

They are in pig heaven, those folks!

8. I don't understand...
I am in no way defending Tweety, but what's the difference between Clinton "having to win both" to stay in the race and Obama "doesn't win both" the race continues? Isn't the result the same either way?

Clinton wins both = she stays in the race. Obama doesn't win both (Clinton does) = race continues.

for the remaining states and still win this. And no, after 45 states, 30 of which have been won by Obama, you don't move the starting line (also) with 7 states left, and count from here on in, to the finish line.

13. I'm tired of the media worshiping Joe Sixpack
Edited on Thu May-01-08 06:36 PM by Cali_Democrat
There is such a double standard. Hillary wins PA and Ohio and it's stunning!! Obama wins NC or VA and it's expected.

It's such obvious racism IMO. The obvious media implication is that VA and NC don't count because of Obama's black support while Joe Sixpack is an almighty god that needs his feet to be kissed.

I can't take this shit anymore. With all due respect, I think Joe Sixpack is a dim bulb thats runs to the Republicans whnever he's scared :scared:

They thive on chaos so they create it.

20. My point is that he's now saying that if Hillary wins ONE, she stays in
When last week he was saying that she had to win BOTH to stay in.

In other words, he raised the bar for Obama, who, according to Matthews (for what THAT's worth) now must win BOTH in order to put it away.

And I can write the script for him - if Obama doesn't win Indiana - a state he was never expected to win anyway and wins North Carolina - a state he was expected to win all along - Matthews and his ilk will behave as if Hillary has scored a major upset and they will once again begin bleating, "Why can't he CLOSE THE DEAL?!"

22. I get it....
she had to win two, and now she only has to win one. Of course, if she looses both, then we'll be back to something else. It never ends. I called MSNBC tonight and left a message. I don't even watch the crap, but reading about what goes on gets me pissed off enough to dial a rant.

"sweep" Indiana and North Carolina or the race continues.

Absolutely amazing.
