Poll question: Is Hillary's gas tax holiday McCain stolen idea a good one?
I don't believe it is.

It's simply a political gimmick from Washington politicians who think that Americans will be fooled by the generally good sound of a gas tax holiday that would extend over several months. On paper, it sounds wonderful. When I first head about it, I thought John McCain and Hillary Clinton were onto something good. Upon further research, it would save you on average...what? 20 dollars or so? That's half a tank of gas in my car.

Half a tank of gas? That's the gimmick they're sugarcoating and playing off as a political gimmick. We need long term solutions, not just short term gimmicks that won't really benefit me or my family much anyway.

If Hillary thinks Americans will be fooled by this, she's absolutely gone off the deep end!!

Do you believe Hillary Clinton's stolen idea she got from John McCain to save you half a tank of gas is a good idea?

Or do you think we need long term solutions and less Washington insiders doing little-to-nothing and pretending they did something to win elections?

2. Yeah, losing equals desperation for Hillary. It's sad when she's dipping into McCain's proposals.

3. It Simple Supply and Demand
If you lower the price of gas by removing the gas tax, the demand will go back up, meaning the price will go back up.

Supply is the problem. Supply is the part of the equation that must be addressed.

8. Supplies will not increase
The companies have a strong motivation to keep the supply tight, and it is apparent that actual supplies are finite.

6. I think you're missing the point
Hillary has (indirectly) suggested that a windfall profits tax on oil companies is a better mechanism to build roads than a sales tax levied on the consumer.

Given that the price of fuel is not set by the cost to produce it, but based on what the market will bear, I see a lot of merit in the idea. Particularly if the taxes are used to fund R&D into alternative fuels.

Aside from the unfortunate choice of words to describe it, Hillary's suggestion is nothing like McCain's.

Is doing nothing better than doing something? Sometimes it can be - when things are not broken. Regarding energy policy, things clearly are broken.

7. Obama said in Speech in NC this week...It will only amount to 1/2 a tank of gas which
Edited on Thu May-01-08 12:46 PM by KoKo01
doesn't really help anyone. It's the "gas tax" remember. And, he said it would probably cause Oil Co's to increase the price and also drain money from the Road Works Fund which the gas tax pays off causing layoffs in contruction workers.

None of the media ever make this comparison when interviewing McCain or Clinton about this "gas tax" moratorium. :-(
