Rassmussen new polls, Obama tanking in NH
Edited on Thu May-01-08 09:24 AM by sunonmars
Clinton Gains on McCain in New Hampshire, Obama Heads in Opposite Direction

The new Granite State numbers show McCain leading Clinton by three percentage points, 47% to 44%. A month ago, the former First Lady was trailing by six.

As for Obama, he now trails McCain by ten percentage points, 51% to 41%. A month ago, he was within three of the presumptive Republican nominee. Two months ago, at the height of Obamamania, Obama led McCain here by thirteen points.

Also

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that Barack Obama’s former Pastor, Jeremiah Wright, has had a significant impact on the race for the White House. The news is not good for Obama.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/new_hampshire/election_2008_new_hampshire_presidential_election2

The really bad news, many did not believe him, especially independents.

Fifty-three percent (53%) of New Hampshire voters have followed news stories about Obama’s former Pastor Very Closely. Another 32% have followed the story Somewhat Closely. Most (53%) say that Obama was not surprised by Wright’s views expressed to the media on Monday. Only 32% believe the Democratic frontrunner was surprised. A plurality of Democrats (47%) were willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt on this point, but most unaffiliated voters and an overwhelming percentage of Republicans were not.

Fifty-four percent (54%) of New Hampshire voters say it’s at least Somewhat Likely that Obama shares some of Pastor Wright’s controversial views about the United States. That figure includes 73% of Republicans, 55% of unaffiliated voters, and 36% of Democrats.

Most voters (56%) say Obama denounced Wright because it was politically convenient. Only 33% believe he was truly outraged.

1. Actually, this isn't particularly good news for either
Clinton or Obama, but as a close neighbor of NH- I live 40 minutes from the border, I think NH really is safe for the dem nominee when it comes right down to it. I could certainly be wrong, but that's my take. I don't think there's any doubt that Wright has damaged Obama, but we'll have to wait and see how much damage.

NH is rabidly anti-tax.

6. NH is the "live free or die" state, they are almost libertarian in their thinking
No government interference is the way. Vermont, right next door, is probably the most liberal state in the whole U.S. but NH has always been about dislike of big government. My father-in-law grew up in CT like me but moved to NH. He is a Repub. He wants low taxes, small government. Unfortunately, the current crop of Rethugs are bigger spenders than any liberal would dream of being. So, hence NH's confusion. I think in a GE McCain would easily win NH, even over Hillary. He would talk about his "spending cuts" but leave out the inconvenient part about spending trillions on the war.

31. There are pockets of Libertarians here but I think you're exaggerating.
The Libertarians have been trying for years to get a movement going here, even to the point of urging other Libertarians to move here. But the state has a Democratic majority for the first time in decades. NH is changing; the demographics are very different from what they were twenty, even ten years ago.

their gov is a dem, and a dem is expected to beat Sununu for a US Senate seat. I don't believe either dem would lose in NH.

29. It's definitely improving...
For the first time in over 100 years, our state House and Senate is Democratic. I volunteer for Jeanne Shaheen for Senate. We're running against John Sununu and she's already ahead by double digits. NH was never an Obama state. The Clintons, both Bill and Hillary, have always been very big here.

12. And that is why
we need to find someone who can really win in November - Gore is the one. He doesn't have the baggage that either Clinton or Obama have. Teamed with Obama, though, that would be a winning ticket and give us 16 good years of a Dem. in the White House. Check out the new web site devoted to this idea - www.thealgoresolution.com. See what we're proposing to try to make this happen.

16. You Obama supporters seem obsessed with race ...how about talking issues for a change
(ie. Change we can believe in).

Every instance in which his judgment has been questioned has been distilled to racism by his supporters. People are fed up with this victim mentality.

They want to hear what he has to say on real issues. But that won't happen as he's afraid to debate, he's afraid to participate in interviews unless he has complete control over the topics and questions in advance. While I do not at all care for O'Reilly, I give Hillary tremendous credit for having the confidence to accept an invitation to debate with the arse. Further, I applaud her performance -- she was masterful. No doubt she won many Indies over with that performance. You won't see Obama on O'Reilly, nor in any other hostile environment -- he's too weak and he knows it.

LOL! How does if feel knowing that Hillary had to draft a concession speech today just in case she needs to drop out of the race tomorrow night? It will be the only inspiring speech she's given this primary season.

I support Obama.

There are some good and bad in all races.

No broad brush politics will work in this election.

We need to change America and believe and work to see that it is a better place.

I have no idea why polls are still around. They're so inaccurate, it's hilarious.

polls don't matter. votes matter.

The war is insanely unpopular in New Hampshire, and McCain is on the wrong side of it. Dem candidate wins NH.

There's a blog called Cannonfire that argues against Obama, though he is not a Hillary supporter:

23. You realize that there's not one connection to the Obama campaign there?
Edited on Sun May-04-08 07:51 AM by Political Heretic
Every sentence is an unsubstantiated accusation with no connection to Obama or to the Obama campaign team. Every link goes to private bloggers not part of the Obama campaign. If you want to argue that Obama bloggers have been dirty fighters, go right ahead. I'm sure that's probably true. What does that have to do with the Obama campaign?

Newsflash, there are crazy supporters out there! I'm shocked. SHOCKED I TELL YOU!

EDIT - okay now I finished my breakfast, and I'm going to bed.

The race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination is now tied. Clinton and Obama are each supported by 45% of Likely Democratic Primary Voters. Last Monday, Obama led by eight.

Edited on Sun May-04-08 08:00 AM by frickaline
Personally I always think of NH and republican bordering on libertarian. Most of the people that I know from up there want almost no government at all. Whether its the seatbelt law, the motorcyclist helmet law, or being able to shoot people on your land, they just don't want government involved.

I don't think this is a good place for any Democratic candidate.

26. Get a freaking grip. Until someone is actually running against
McCain, all of these polls are bullshit. I'd bet there isn't one person in New Hampshire - where I happen to live - who knows McCain wants to take their employer-provided health insurance away. The MSM isn't covering it because they're too busy pastorbating. McCain's plan would most likely quadruple or worse the number of uninsured.

30. EXACTLY!
That's what I've been saying for months now. It makes sense that, before our nominee is decided, the Dem vote will be split against McCain. He doesn't stand a chance once we have our nominee and he has to campaign against him/her.
