The hard numbers...or... the negligible effect of Rev. Wright
The Rev. Wright story first broke on March 13th.

Gallup tracking poll, Obama vs. Clinton:

March 12th: Obama 49, Clinton 44
Today: Obama 47, Clinton 46

http://www.gallup.com

Rasmussen tracking poll, Obama vs. Clinton:

March 12th: Obama 47, Clinton 42
Today: Obama 49, Clinton 41

http://www.rasmussenreports.com

Intrade.com share price (pct chance of winning nomination):

March 12th: Obama 77, Clinton 20
Today: Obama 78, Clinton 19

7 weeks of Rev Wright. And Obama's numbers have not moved down. Clinton's numbers have not moved up.

We can argue all we want whether this has hurt Obama or not.... but the hard numbers indicate that it hasn't.

1. Its a joke, will the media please report some real news? What is happening in Iraq right now????
WHo knows, they have not reported much on it in days. Al Gore is right on about the media in his book "The Assault on Reason". They don't know how to report real news anymore. Are they even journalists anymore, or tabloid-lite reporters?

2. Our right wing corporate media is a sad excuse for journalism. Lots of people have tuned them out.

3. Thanks for posting...SD
I think Obama has been "vetted" and then some. I think the American people will see this whole Wright thing for what it is. No matter how this shakes out, Hillary cannot be the nominee, it doesn't matter if her numbers shoot through the stratosphere. I think large chunks of the base will just sit out this election, if she's the nominee....at least that's what I'm hearing.

5. Want one more numerical reality?
Even IF Rev Wright was somehow a problem for Obama, mathematically Hil simply can't win the nomination at this point. I just don't think it can be done.

I find this so disturbing not just because I support Obama, but because the kind of crap flying around now just widens the rift between the African American voters and the Dem party. The media is playing it for all the income they can generate, and in the meantime a huge block of traditionally Dem voters is getting pissed on--while the DLC faction celebrates and encourages it.

6. "Can you believe this negro man is talking to us this way?!" - the REAL story
The Pope slams entire religions, condemns apostates in his own religion, and oversees the continuing cover up of the worst organized sexual abuse by a church in modern history, and what does he get? Nonstop adoration in major media.

Protestants like Hagee and Robertson spew all manner of vile, hate filled rhetoric about Americans who do not share their beliefs, who advocate murder and war, and they get a pass.

But let an uppity black man speak his mind, and the msm panties are so bunched they can't talk about anything else.

This is all about the sludge of racism that runs through mainstream media from top to bottom. Look at how thoroughly anglicized every black commentator on the news cable networks must become. They can be black, but they'd damn sure better wear their hair, clothes, and speech so that they pronounce loudly and clearly: "I'm non threatening, yall, don't get scared of the black person!"

The implicit and chronic racism towards blacks who refuse to model white behaviors is a nonstop war by major media and the racists who run it.

8. Not convinced racism is the main factor
It is Clinton and Rove doing an Atwater-style smear campaign. This depends on partnership of the media, which is heavily dominated by the right. That's why they are attacking Obama, and Wright is the conduit. If Hagee were Obama's minister, I believe they would be doing exactly the same thing.

I'm not denying that racism is a big factor. It certainly is a big factor on the ground in lower demographic white areas, but I'm not convinced it is the main motive with this particular smear campaign.

Where racisms truly does com in, and maybe this is exactly what you are saying, is in how easy it is to SELL this bullshit story. I mean, look at that uppity neegrow preacher. Can you believe what that neegrow is saying?

Look at that Willie Horton. Can you believe Michael Dukakis released hat neegrow so he could go out and rape our white women?

The narrative is very easy to sell. So I agree with you it is a racist campaign, even if the motives aren't racial.

7. And in the meantime she won a magnificanet double-digit victory in PA
To hear the press talk, one of those events should have made a serious dent in Obama's standing.
