Breaking: Clinton Supporter Invited Wright To Speak At National Press Club

Clinton supporter invited Wright

Obama's campaign has disavowed Wright's media tour, and a correspondent notes an interesting detail:

Wright was invited to the National Press Club by a journalist and minister who supports Clinton.

The Tribune reports that Wright was invited by Barbara Reynolds, a former USA Today editorial board member who has written on personal blog of her support for Clinton.

I don't mean to suggest some kind of plot. Her agenda here seems to have been the same as Wright's: To protect the minister's reputation from, among others, Obama.

"t is a sad testimony that to protect his credentials as a unifier above the fray the Senator is fueling the media characterization that Rev. Dr. Wright is some retiring old uncle in the church basement instead of respecting Wright for the towering astute father of progressive social and global causes that he is," Reynolds wrote in March.

Reynolds' is well placed to defend Wright. Her bio says she teaches "prophetic ministry and the media" at Howard University's divinity school.

Is she protecting Wright?

Or using him as a politcal tool?

I guess that's up for debate...

58. Yes, but if it is not true
Then it should not be pinned on her.

Veracity of claims should apply to all campaign thrusts. That especially goes for Obama allies.

It looks like the evidence that Clinton was behind the speech invite is kind of thin, but what is there is something worthy of a bit of attention.

This should be war. But very calculated war on his part. He needs to finish her off and take her down.

23. No, he needs to let her take herself down. This is a two part fight. The primary and then the GE.
He needs to let Clinton make herself unelectable. She's been helping him out in that regard.

Then, he will take on John McCain and he will win the GE.

I love how people think they know what Obama should do. You do think you know what Obama should do, don't you? Why do you think you know?

But that's just my opinion.

I could be wrong. You might actually know exactly what Obama needs to do.

Don't play dumb, Abby. And don't attempt to busy me with a wild-goose chase just to shut me up for as long as it takes to compile a bunch of links you won't read anyway.

And, on the off-chance you've been sleeping all day and really don't know what he said, Teh Google is your friend. Or you could look at the latest post in my blog -- the quote from Dana Milbank is especially enlightening.

clearly they have appealed to his ego, and he was willing to kill Obama's candidacy for it.

Book deals, money trails.... this may just be the tip of the iceberg.

6. Weird, cause my Black Minister husband was saying the same thing about the
NAACP thing. That a lot of the Black Hillary supporters tend to be members of the NAACP (see Julian Bond)because it is an older institution, and many of NAACP folks are usually kind of Upward mobile, conservative and used to the "old" ways. Plus hubby happened to mention that it was weird that the dinner was in Michigan (just happens to be a state mad at the DNC currently), and that Governor Grandholms (a Hillary endorser) and Sen. Levin were in attendance. Makes you want to go Mmmmmm......

42. one of my closest friends - black - said today she thought money was involved
she said that she was sure (in her heart) that money was being funneled to the Pastor.

That may make some people angry, but my friend said the pastor KNEW he
was hurting Obama, he HAD to know.

You can't excuse this type of shit as if this Pastor was 3 years old.

Hes a smart man, perhaps vein or egotistical, or all of this has gone to his head.

But he is also a wealthy man who let his church by him a million $ + home.

22. Okay Obama.
Take off the gloves. This is the dirtiest thing they could have ever done. They gave this man a platform, knowing that he and Obama were not on as good of terms as they once were, and used the NAACP to do it. They used one of the oldest organizations in the black community to try to tear down the first viable black candidate for president.

They have NO shame. This is ain't about Jeremiah Wright anymore. This is about Barack Obama, who I must say, is a much WISER man than Jeremiah Wright. This is about Obama's family and this country. It is NOT about one man and his ego. I was with Wright on the basic merits of his argument, but he has severely and I believe intentionally sought to hurt Obama with his incredible antics today. I rewatched the press conference and this man's ego was undeniable. He made a mockery of himself. Sorry to say it. I still believe he is a very learned man, but he did not impress me today with his antics, especially with calling into question OBAMA'S MOTIVATIONS. WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THAT?

Now come to find out he was consorting with the Clinton campaign? WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THAT?

Take off the gloves.

You're saying Wright isn't responsible for what he says. Anything that falls out of his mouth is the responsibility of whoever invited him.

Do you have any idea how utterly stupid that sounds?

Obviously not, or you wouldn't say it.

Oh, and by the way, calling me a moron is against DU rules. Just in case you didn't know -- or did someone (say, Hillary?) force you to call me a moron, against your will?

the two have completely different messages, and by tying the pastor to Obama,
it hurts Obama.

By the way, this pastor wouldn't be getting all this media except for his ties to Obama.

60. see the daily news, see Wright's Poison
what he's preaching runs counter to what Obama is saying.

It undermines his campaign.

Only liberals and ultra progressives are sympathetic to Wright's preaching and his
media blitz.

Its not his interview with Bill Moyers, thats great - its his preaching and yes I've heard
it several times played over and over by CNN.

61. Looks like Reynolds might have played to his ego >>>

"It is a sad testimony that to protect his credentials as a unifier above the fray the Senator is fueling the media characterization that Rev. Dr. Wright is some retiring old uncle in the church basement instead of respecting Wright for the towering astute father of progressive social and global causes that he is," Reynolds wrote in March."

Note, it says she teaches prophetic ministries. So, she's a colleague of sorts, as well.

This stinks to high heaven -- but MSM won't touch it -- I'll betcha!!

67. Yes Hillary is behind it all.
I mean if you think about it she is an evil woman with great powers. My guess is she concocted a magical apple that forced the Reverend to go and give speeches until he drops.

Damn you Hillary damn you.

69. of course the Clintons are behind this, at both NAACP and Press Club
This is classic sabotage by the Clintons, who, like the Bushes, will deny any involvement in their swift boating activities.

That's how Republicans do it.

70. Of course. Hiullary and her supporters will sink to any level
to put her in the oval office. The question that people have to ask themselves is do they want someone as despicable, immoral, unethical and power hungry as hillary answering the 3:00 am call. Hillary will make bushes abuses of power look like nothing.

71. Not surprising...
however you cant blame HRC and co for Wright's own ego.

Shady and low for a clinton surrogate to do this but nothing surprises me out of this camp any longer.

74. When my post asking if Clinton could be behind this was jumped
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 07:18 AM by Skwmom
on by so many Clinton supporters I just knew they "did protest too much." Anyone with an ounce of common sense could not summarily dismiss any Clinton involvement based on their track record.

And as far as the NAACP speech goes, the Chairman of the NAACP appears to have endorsed Clinton.

From Gateway Pundit: On April 10th the NAACP announced that they had invited Rev Wright to speak. It was to be billed as “A Change is Going to Come.” (Hmmm…. Like a change in the Democratic Race...?) The NAACP Chairman is Julian Bond.

The Michigan Messenger claims that NAACP Chairman Julian Bond basically endorsed Clinton.

"The disturbing part of Bond’s letter is that could easily be interpreted as a backhanded way of endorsing Senator Clinton."
http://www.thesuperspade.com/naacp-chairman-julian-bond... .

Another article pointed out how it was close enough to the NC and IN primaries to potentially impact them. Now who would want to do that. If anyone has listened to the Clinton hack Ford and his emphasis on NC and the talking heads say that the race would turn when someone won or outperformed in a state they weren't expected to do well in, it became obvious that the Clintons were going to do an overall assault on Obama in NC.

75. Thug-like tactics on display here
another attempt by the Hillbots to hide the depths of HRC's sleazy tactics. The truth will always come out in the end, as it has in this case.

77. It will come out and will be discussed repeatedly by the Republicans in November
to keep the outraged fueled (if the superdelegates are stupid enough to nominate her).

76. Clinton had her supporter whispering in Wright's ear.

From Daily Kos:

In another blog entry, Reynolds gives an ever-sharper critique of Obama: "It is a sad testimony that to protect his credentials as a unifier above the fray, the senator is fueling the media characterization that Rev. Dr. Wright is some retiring old uncle in the church basement."...

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/4/29/75840/7712/999/505469

The Clintons ARE MASSIVE MANIPULATORS. They get Wright invited to speak to the NAACP and National Press Club while having their supporters fuel the fire against Obama.

treated Wright so unfairly, etc (trying to work Wright into a frenzy). The Clinton supporter who arranged the speech was talking to Wright just before he gave his speech.

83. I called in to WZTK (in NC) this morning told them about it and they discussed it more
they went to Politico and read some of the article and said that explained
how that National Press Club was so bizarre.

84. Did anyone else notice??
that when Rev Wright was asked a question about Bill Clinton and his SC comments, that he refused to criticize Bill Clinton?? Is the Reverend really a stealth supporter of Hillary and the Clintons rather than one of his own congregation??
