I find her proposal racist, and I'm sure she intended the racial angle.

6. Yes, please shut the fuck up Hillary, or at the very least talk about something of substance.

4. What? The Black Angle?
I missed all of that. I've gotten to the point where I want to break my computer just seeing a picture of her because of the idiotic republican trash she spews. Please fill me in.

11. The OP thinks Lincoln debated Frederick Douglas.
Which says something about Obambams' loose grasp of history in general.

15. No. The Lincoln Douglas debates were about slavery -- that's the "black" angle
In fact, one of the slurs used against Lincoln at the time was being accused of belonging to the "black" Republican party. Lots of interesting parallels, actually.

18. So you really think Hillary was casting herself as Stephen Douglas?
Or that the OP thinks she was?

Good grief.

20. I don't see the source of what the OP was referring to, but neither do you
But if I had to cast Obama and Clinton in the roles of Lincoln and Douglas, then yeah, I'd cast Clinton as Douglas -- the short, mudslinging one.

24. Some more apt parallels
Douglas was the more "experienced" candidate. Lincoln had a two-year term in the US House; Douglas was the incumbent senator.

Douglas' triangulation efforts had at that point exascerbated the entire problem of slavery and its expansion in new states and territories.

Douglas had his own "Fox News" team: after one of the Lincoln-Douglas debates, Lincoln was carried off on the shoulders of a cheering crowd. Or so one paper reported it. Another pro-Douglas paper wrote that Lincoln was so exhausted and dispirited after facing Douglas that he collapsed and was carried off by his disheartened followers.

It's not a surprise that "Team of Rivals" is one of Obama's favorite books. I've been reading it and found that Lincoln was a canny campaigner who managed to come from behind and win out over the "inevitable" Seward for his party's nomination -- oh, and beat Douglas in the GE, too.

Yup. Lots of parallels.

16. Better a loose grasp of history
Than what you Clinton supporters have, which is the inability grasp of what is plainly before your face in the present time. I believe they call it denial.

At least someone can learn history.

7. What?
The answer is - no. There will be no debate. Even if she threatens to hold her breath and turn blue - there will not be a debate. There is nothing new here. The candidate that's behind and out of money ALWAYS demands debates, and the candidate with money and the lead always declines the offer. If positions were reversed the answer would be the same. HRC would no more debate him than listen to small children reading poems in a field of sniper fire.

all the whining about the moderators being biased and this takes away the moderators and he can't complain about that. Lunatic.

Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 11:24 AM by stillcool47
who would have thought the "American People" would push back that way. What do you think about Senator Obama's town hall meetings, where he answers the questions the voters have? Funny how the "Black Angle" isn't discussed, isn't it?

12. You're wrong on a few counts
First, the notion that there's anything racist about it is absurd.

And she doesn't think Obama will accept - but she knows it hurts him to decline, so she's pounding on it.

17. Link? I haven't seen anything re a "black" angle.
I've only seen the standard losing candidate trying to challenge the frontrunner in order to get free media and to try to change the dynamic of the race.
