Clinton's 10 million dollar haul? Not so fast...
Edited on Sat Apr-26-08 08:46 PM by yourguide
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0408/9889.html

*snip*

So unbelievable, it seems, that even within the campaign there was uncertainty as to how much had been raised as yet another figure surfaced around 6 p.m., when Peter Daou, Clinton’s Internet director, told The New York Times that the campaign had raised $8 million.

Finally, about 11 p.m., the campaign posted on its website its final tally for the one-day windfall: $10 million from 100,000 donors, of whom it said 80,000 were first-time givers.

It made no difference that the details didn’t always add up — wide variations in the numbers of new donors; a conflicting timeline of when the money was actually raised. It was the eye-popping $10 million figure — the most ever claimed in a 24-hour period — that dominated the news cycle.

*snip*

And he promised the numbers will be borne out when the campaign files its next financial report with the Federal Election Commission on May 20.

“Everybody will see, as we’ve seen for the past 14 months … the accuracy of the numbers,” he said, adding “FEC reports are as definitive as you can get in terms of proving fundraising.”

Except the reports cannot and will not prove the campaign’s claim of raising $10 million in one day.

That’s because the FEC requires campaigns only to list the donors and dates of contributions that surpass $200 for the entire election cycle. So small donations from new donors — the kind that formed the bulk of Clinton’s haul — aren’t detailed on the reports. Instead, contributions of $200 or less are listed in lump sums as “unitemized contributions.”

*snip*

AP photo. It happens, even the most attractive folks get poor photos taken.

I happen to find that photo representative of how ugly her campaign has been, it stays until she cleans up her act.

Thats what a 60 year old is SUPPOSED to look like. And she's never been one of "the most attrative folks" in the first place. She's got a traveling team of "maintenance" workers working like dogs to make her look 20 years younger. But there's only so much one can do....

40. Personally
I think this is just a bad photo of her. I think she's physically more attractive than that.

However, she's still run an incredibly ugly campaign and I feel for me, having this photo up is representative of her campaign and her campaign tactics.

When she cleans up her act I plan to remove the photo from my sig. Until then...

In photos now, she doesn't look 20 years younger, her face looks like she's about 18-26 years old - full, straight blond hair, not a wrinkle, color, bright blue eyes, no glasses. Like Dick Clark, America's oldest teen.

2. They're probably lying. They have a history of spreading phony info.
This is typical of the Clinton campaign. They rush to get out a story, and the point of the story is "hey, we're rolling in money, we have a bunch of NEW contributors, and you should send us money, too!!"

I call bogus on this fairy tale. They WISH they had a new $10 mil and a new group of 100,000 contributors. They're stalling out, and like the Bushes, they LIE when there are no facts to support them.

51. Lies on page one, retractions on page 47.
Works every time. The only thing that prevents that is integrity, and neither the Bushes nor the Clintons have any of that. That is the main reason why America simply doesn't want to continue this Clinton/Bush thingie.

80,000 new donors? Most new donors are conservative with their first donation...$5, $25, maybe $50...

I doubt she had 100,000 donors...I doubt they averaged $100 each.

I still think it's lies.

14. I agree.
There is so much BS coming out of the Clinton camp, you can't believe anything they say. They need money, and they need it badly. They are in debt, they have no money to go into the next states, so they come up with this PR tactic to try and get people to send in money. Most people are not going to donate to a losing cause, so if they can make people think they have just broken a record by collection 10 million in 24 hours, they figure they can get enough money to make it into Indiana.

What I want to know is if they made that 10 million they say they did, how many of their debts they have owed for months now have been paid off? Not to Penn, but to the people in small towns they have been stiffing now for months! When do those people get their money?

I had no idea he was working for Clinton and had for a long time. That he was brought in by Dick Morris (eeeewwww) and that the Clinton's love him and are loyal to him.

Now he and Bill are going to "strategize" for the campaign.

Go home, please - I don't want to know any more.

17. Good article...one reason I'd predict an end before then
I don't think the next FEC report will stand very well. The current debt may be settled by the windfall prior to embarrassing collections filings, but then what about tackling the critical next set of contests, barely solvent? She must decisively defeat Obama to prove her point of momentum and superior electability to the SD's, who will then collectively push her over the top...

But as none of that is feasible or realistic, particularly with her funds situation, I would guess she will milk her last brief bit of good press to fuel fund-raising sufficient to close things out. This would be to end things on a good financial note. Or she would have to go all out and breaks the bank in the next couple of weeks to prove momentum in the remaining states - a very improbable gamble. As a career politician, I think she is more on the realistic side.

in the latest round of FEC filings, they pad the numbers and the FEC may start taking a closer look at her finances which wont be good for her.

Hmmmmm, with that lie she may have just contributed to having the FEC microscoping her finances.

56. I think it's highly likely that Clinton won't even release
her fund raising numbers at the end of the month if they are as dismal as one would guess. That pretty much means they can delay releasing them until the deadline on May 20th, which happens to be on the same day as Oregon and Kentucky (assuming she stays in the race and the numbers matter). That's why I think this is more likely to go on until then rather then ending on May 6th.
