Getting a taste up close and personal of the Rethuglican mind...
Folks, I'm telling you - if people do not think an Obama/McCain race is not going to be down and dirty, you have another thing coming.

Whether it matters or not, I am a hard core liberal that works in an occupation where most are Republican. The Dems that do exist usually express surprise at finding a Democratic ally not known before.

Anyway, for those in denial, I will make the prediction now that Obama has not heard the last of his drug use, Ayers, Wright, his name, his faith, or anything else that can be used in hopes of keeping a white male as the next president. This stuff is simply not going to go away.

And the most troubling part of all of this is that the real general election hasn't even started yet. But for a slight preview, all we have to do is to look toward the NC GOP.

1. Well, of course.
This is what they always do. It wouldn't matter who our candidate was, they would find plenty of scurrilous trash to throw at him or her, real or imagined. Howver, I think Americans have finally wised-up to this, and it will hurt them more than help.

2. You're looking in the wrong direction
Stop worrying about our nominee, start looking at McCain's liabilities.

He has far more negatives than you probably know about.

7. Shit, the problem is.....
after watching the John Stewart piece the other night on McCain/Hagee and Obama/Wright, it makes me wonder if anyone is even going to start focusing on McCain's stuff at all.

It's sort of like McCain is the crotchety old grandpa who is half off his rocker, so just leave him alone and let him ramble on.

3. Folk, I'm telling you...
...if you do not think a Clinton/McCain race is not going to be down and dirty, you have another think (not "thing") coming.

Whether it matters or not, I am a hard core liberal that works in an occupation where most are Republican. The Dems that do exist usually express surprise at finding a Democratic ally not known before.

Anyway, for those in denial (i.e., you), I will make the prediction now that Clinton has not heard the last of Bosnia, Walmart, Norman Hsu, Monica Lewinsky, or anything else that can be used in hopes of keeping a white male as the next president. This stuff is simply not going to go away.

And the most troubling part of all of this is that the real general election hasn't even started yet. But for a slight preview, all we have to do is to look toward the whole GOP.

4. Yep. They're going to do just that.
SO FUCKING WHAT??

Maybe it's time this kind of thing is seen for the stupid shit it is.

These candidates all put their pantsuits on the same way we do - they all have friends of less than stellar caliber and skeletons in their closet - to pretend otherwise gives rise to the Karl Roves of the world -

How about we legalize being human in our candidates??

8. agreed
time to stop playing to the lowest common denominator. So what if someone doesn't wear a flag pin? What does that have to do with anything? I am so sick and disgusted with the fake outrage at the slightest little thing, but I guess that is the way the political game is played these days.

12. Agree with you 100 percent, but sadly....
that is not how things are being done or how things work in modern day politics.

I mean, go back and look at the last debate. Obama makes his opinion known about how he felt about the shitty questions being asked by the ABC moderators and how was that reported and reacted to? That he could not take the heat. That was the major theme being reported, not the quality of the questions.

It's frustrating as hell to watch.

5. And as long as Obama is not afraid and willing to forge on, he has my support.
They would do the same thing to Hillary but she's such a useful tool to them now. As a GE candidate, the Rs will drag out the kitchen sink, the bathroom stool, and the septic tank to throw at her.

9. " if people do not think an Obama/McCain race is not going to be down and dirty"
I have yet to meet a person who thinks that. The republicans can't even pretend to run on issues this year (I now always think of Rachel Maddow doing the John McCain "tax and shpend liberals!" impression). When Obama said during bitter-gate that he wasn't surprised that McCain was trying to use this against him, since they are carrying the banner for the last eight years, the McCain official response was.."But...arugula!" Lol.

15. so your point is what? that hillary has the OK to be mccain's attack dog?
your point is that the democrats should go after him for all the same bullshit as the republicans?

essentially what you're doing is giving the republicans a chance to take the high road and let hillary clinton be mccain's surrogate.

see, the whole problem is that Obama IS the nominee. and this whole hillary thing is destroying obama. yes, obviously the republicans are going to come after him. no shit. but all mccain has to say is "even the democrats think obama is xyz". and it will be true.

instead of having several months for our party to coalesce around obama and attack the republicans in unison, hillary is destroying everything and will cost us this election.

16. Not at all.....my point is...
that for those here who seem to think this Wright/Ayers/Muslim/Dope crap is simply going to go away, they need to wake up and get ready for the most miserable attacks that they can dream of.

And I certainly agree with your last sentence 100 percent. This should be a double team effort on McCain but instead it is clearly a double team on Obama.
