SD Gov. Henry (Oklahoma) endorses Obama
http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?articleID=20080423_1_A1_BIELW60642

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Gov. Brad Henry on Tuesday said he intends to cast his lot -- and his Democratic National Convention vote -- with Illinois senator Barack Obama.

"I believe Senator Obama is uniquely positioned to unite our nation and move beyond the divisiveness and partisan skirmishes that too often characterize politics as usual in Washington," Henry said in a prepared statement issued through the Obama campaign.

Henry thus became the third Oklahoma "superdelegate" and the second in a week to pledge for Obama. In doing so, he went against the results of the Feb. 5 state Democratic primary in which Sen. Hillary Clinton won 54 percent of the vote to 31 percent for Obama.

"Senator Obama understands that the serious concerns facing average Americans must transcend partisan games if we are to rise to the
challenges of today and tomorrow," Henry said.

36. I've noticed that when Hillary gets a SD, the post announcing it
stays up in the GDp for like 2 weeks!

Shouldn't ours be doing the same?

13. Thank you,
I knew he was adament about waiting until this summer, and was surprised when he changed his mind.

I think something is in the works definitely.

It says alot too, when Oklahoma is a pretty red state, Gov Henry knows who is the best for down tickets and the country.

and the state will go red in the GE. Henry's endorsement is a lot more glitter than gold.

14. The Governor is a Super Delegate and will vote for Obama at the convention.
How is that more glitter than gold?

Seems like political currency that he aims to spend on Obama.

Oklahoma is a red state as you know, and Hillary won this state, it says a lot when our Governor endorsed Obama over her, because he has more confidence in down ticket races with Obama, than Hillary.

We should recognize this for the signal it is.

It's a Super Delegate vote, which is way more significant that an endorsement alone.

23. That is a good point, VenusRising.
Henry's superdelegate vote will help Obama in the race for the nomination. I don't think it will mean much in the GE, though.

22. I have yet to meet anyone around here who says that he or she will vote for Obama.
That includes my dad, who takes great pride in the fact that he has never voted for a republican. By saying that I will consider (very reluctantly) voting for Obama in the GE, I'm in a small minority here in NE Oklahoma.

I don't think Obama helps any downticket democrats, at least not in my part of the state. However, Henry's superdelegate vote does help Obama in the race for the nomination.

24. I only personally know two people from Oklahoma.
They are freaky right wingers. They said that Colorado was "a whole 'nother country!" the first time they visited there. I was hoping that they were just a completely backward couple and that most Oklahomans weren't like that. I still hope they aren't because those two are just pathetically sad. They are from South Central Oklahoma.

So, thank you, for giving us an inside view of your area of the state.

two different sets of people. My brother who is in the U.S. Naval Reserves, lifetime Republican is voting for Obama in the GE.

I have yet to talk to anyone, friends or family who will not vote for Obama.

They are sick of the Republicans crap. I am sure there are people out there who won't, because as you know this state is Red.

33. AP-Says that his endorsement gives 3 State super-delegates to Obama
OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry endorsed Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination Wednesday, calling him an inspirational leader who can unite the country.

"I believe Senator Obama is uniquely positioned to unite our nation and move beyond the divisiveness and partisan skirmishes that too often characterize politics as usual in Washington," Henry said early Wednesday in a statement released by the Obama press office in Chicago.

The endorsement one day after the Pennsylvania primary gave Obama the official support of three of the state's 10 superdelegates, while Clinton has the backing of one superdelegate. The rest are uncommitted.

41. Here is what the article I posted says:
Henry follows Edmond attorney Reggie Whitten and state party vice-chairwoman Kitti Asberry in committing to Obama.

One superdelegate, national committeewoman Betty McElderry of Purcell, is pledged to Clinton.

The remaining six are uncommitted.
