Obama uses sexist language in speech.
We should write to Donna Brazille and ask her to go on all the talk shows and tell Obama he better knock of the sexist code.

When he suggested that Clinton was throwing china at him, it was sexist and an attempt to paint her as an hysterical female--stereotyped angry female throwing stuff at the guy.

That code language should not be tolerated by anyone.

Of course Clinton can't say anything about it or she will be
1. accused of using gender to win an election
2. be called a racist.

11. It is a shame that you ignore it.
Because the reality is that he was using sexist code to paint her as a stereotypical hysterical female throwing dishes.

You of course said the same thing when Obama's camp was shouting "Racism!" from the rooftops, or do you only ignore sexism?

Obama just extended it to include china and the buffet.

She is the one who talks about the heat in the kitchen, the kitchen sink strategy, etc.

Besides, she fits the stereotype. She is a screaming, fit throwing WOMAN. She should knock it off.

28. I try to listen to both sides
and honestly, there are times when I think that charges of racism are exaggerated, and times when charges of sexism are exaggerated. I stated the exact same thoughts yesterday to several ops. I've had Hillary supporters tell me that Obama is sexist for holding the chair out for her at debates.

But I really really really don't think that the china reference was sexist. To me, the fact that she is ever trying to use that "We need someone who will not cheer on John McCain." proves that she is absolutely fucking desperate, and is throwing absolutely everything at him.

...her campaign designs ads that take Obama's face and darkens and flattens it, and show a sleeping little white girl in bed at 3:00 a.m., unaware of the danger outside lurking; and they send Matt Drudge a photo of Obama dressed in traditional Somali garb to portray him as a Muslim; and then, to an interviewer who asks Hillary if Barack's a Muslim, she responds, "not to my knowledge," knowing full well he's gone to the same Christian church for 20 years; oh, and she dismisses Obama as someone who "hasn't done the kind of 'spade' work to back up his promises," and her supporter, Andrew Cuomo, tells reporters that Obama can't "shuck and jive" at press conferences...and Geraldine Ferraro says he'd never be a contender if he wasn't black...

...I could go on.

And, here you are, getting your knickers in a twist over THIS?

Pathetic...really.

But I figured since this is such a one-sided board with the Clinton supporters mostly gone, that you all needed to see a perspective that you would ignore.

I know most, fly to this thread to attack. But perhaps somewhere in that "progressive" mind there is a twinkle of understanding.

Perhaps I am asking too much from you all. You call yourselves progressive.

65. I'm an Obama supporter,
but I am willing to read Clinton supporters' posts, consider them, and make my own judgement based on the evidence offered. It's interesting, all of the books about "teledemocracy" that came out in the 90s, and how it would be so great for the country and expanding the will of the people. It has been amazing in terms of fundraising and the level of information that is readily available to the public, but I'm sure there will books written in the future about how it is damaging in the sense of creating a sort of alternate reality, in which supporters of both sides antagonize each other in a format in which they can say things that they would not be comfortable discussing in public. I did not mean to belittle your post, it just frustrates me that so much discussion tends to just lead to more divide in the Democratic party (and people on both sides are responsible, let me make it clear). However, again as an Obama supporter, I'll always willing to read Clinton supporters' posts and take them in to consideration.

When he was stating that Clinton was "throwing the China" at him and the buffet, he was attempting to paint her as the stereotypical hysterical female.

I was so surprised when he said it, and I was more surprised that no one mentioned it. Of course had the rolls been reverersed, MSM would have suggested she was using "racist code"

26. "Claws come out" "periodically...feel down". Just a couple of examples...

Is Obama Using Sexist Language?

February 16, 2008 11:30 AM

Earlier this month, speaking at Tulane University, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, said this about the attacks coming his way from Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY:

"You challenge the status quo and suddenly the claws come out," Obama said.

The CLAWS come out? Really?

Then yesterday Obama told reporters who had asked about Clinton's latest attack ad, "I understand that Senator Clinton, periodically when she's feeling down, launches attacks as a way of trying to boost her appeal."

That prompted some female TV reporters to question the language he was using.

According to this unofficial transcript, over at MSNBC, Andrea Mitchell and Norah O'Donnell seemed to suggest Obama may have been -- if not playing the gender card, then using language women voters might find offensive.

Language such as "when she's feeling down" "periodically" she "launches attacks."

Nora O'Donnell: "He said, 'I understand when she's down, that she makes these kinds of attacks.' It's getting a little personal."

Andrea Mitchell: "It's getting a little personal and, very frankly, you know how deeply we interpreted every comment to look for some sort of racial motivation before South Carolina. A lot of people said it was there. But, you know, when you start describing a female candidate as being 'down' and 'striking back,' I don't know, that's a little edgy, don't you think?"

Nora O'Donnell: "Yeah. And I think there's gonna be a lot more comments about that."*

Pro-Clinton blogger Taylor Marsh writes that words like this, in her view, indicate "a way of thinking about women. A way of demeaning women in power; even saying we're not up to the job. Seriously, Senator Hillary Clinton is a woman running for president. Not some emotional menopausal diva popping pills because she's depressed she broke a nail."

"Claws"…"feeling down"...I find it hard to envision Obama using the same language if he were facing, say, former Sen. John Edwards, D-NC.

It bothers me that the media is not airing these obviously sexist demeaning statements.

There are so many double standards in this election. He is allowed to paint her as an hysterical female--demeaning her as a woman--with not one peep from the powerful women or from the media.

Of course look what happened to Ferraro when she tried. She was shut up in Bush like-fashion by calling her a racist.

"I won the cookie-baking contest with Barbara Bush," said Mrs. Clinton.

If Mrs. Clinton wants people not to think of her as the 'hysterical female/stereotyped angry female throwing stuff at the guy,' to use your phrase, she should probably stop acting like one.

I don't think Hillary expected any serious competition during the primaries. She probably anticipated a few token candidates who would all drop out after Super Tuesday. But along came this uppity Senator who refused to bow down to Hillary, and is actually challenging her. The nerve!

I don't know the phrase you are referring to.

<a href="http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/everything+but+the+kitchen+sink">everything but the kitchen sink</a>

everything but the kitchen sink (humorous)
a lot of different things, many of which you do not need. We were only going away for the weekend, but Jack insisted on taking everything but the kitchen sink.
See also: but, everything, kitchen, sink
Cambridge International Dictionary of Idioms © Cambridge University Press 1998

everything but the kitchen sink
almost all that you can imagine of something. Here's a website that simply has everything but the kitchen sink.
Etymology: based on the idea that if you brought many things to someone, a kitchen sink is one of the last things you would bring because it is difficult to move

60. been waiting for the knife in the back
Been supportive of women's issue and sensitive to their struggles
all of adulut life (37 years in business). I have never seen such
disparity in a campaign where a woman has basically charged her
opponent with being a plagiarist, and a closet hate monger and
terroirist sympathizer. He has avoided hundred of chances to
take any one of the huge amount of Hillary faults and lies and
simply beat her on the head with it until she was not fit to take
another step. If you have any honesty left mixed in with your emotion
you would have to admit that if Hillary was up against another woman
with a clean past history, she would have been destroyed by her own
baggage before the train left the station.

So now, throwing the china at Obama is a heinous code word that somehow
guts a woman. Very poor choices like this are reinforcing the exact
biases that I have worked with you all of my life to overcome.

Self destructing for a thankless Hillary Clinton is not my idea
of a path to full equality for women, and she will kick you to the
curb as soon as winning does not involve catering to you anymore.

I stood on top of the kitchen table and took our dishes (hand-me-downs from his mother) and meticulously dashed the dishes to the ground one by one. I didn't actually 'throw' them. He grabbed me by my belt loops and the seat of my pants and threw me into the bedroom to sleep it off.

To tell you the truth, it was quite cathartic and felt wonderful. I highly recommend dish destruction to those of either gender.

Did Hillary "Play The Gender Card"?
By Greg Sargent - November 2, 2007, 3:51PM

So what really happened here, anyway?
http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2007/11/did_hillary_play_the_gender_card.php
After the debate, Hillary's campaign sent out an email describing her as "one tough woman" and deriding the nature of the "piling on" that had ensued. And the next day, AFSCME president Gerald McEntee endorsed Hillary with remarks that almost certainly had plenty of input from the Hillary campaign: "Six guys against Hillary. I’d call that a fair fight. This is one strong woman.:
So just after the debate the campaign didn't argue that she was being attacked because she's a woman. But the campaign clearly did try to strongly emphasize the gender picture here.
--------------------

Hillary pollster Mark Penn subsequently said in a conference call that the image of six men beating up on Hillary would play well with female voters. And anonymous Clinton advisers told the Associated Press that "there is a clear and long-planned strategy to fend off attacks by accusing her male rivals of
gathering against her."
Though one should approach anonymous stuff with caution, this doesn't seem especially difficult to believe.
---------------------------------------------------------
Bottom line: As best as we can determine, Hillary never explicitly made the accusation that the men were piling up on her because she's a woman. But you'd have to be very credulous indeed not to believe that the campaign is explicitly trying to emphasize, for various political reasons, the fact that she's a woman getting hammered by a bunch of men. I don't know if that constitutes "playing the gender card" or not -- the exact meaning of the term is unclear, at least to me -- but that's obviously what's going on.

CLINTON PLANNED TO USE GENDER CARD ALL ALONG

RON FOURNIER, AP - Clinton's advisers, speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss internal matters, said there is a clear and long-planned strategy to fend off attacks by accusing her male rivals of gathering against her. The idea is to change the subject while making Clinton a sympathetic figure, especially among female voters who often feel outnumbered and bullied on the job. As one adviser put it, Clinton is not the first presidential candidate to play the "woe-is-me card" but she's the first major female presidential candidate to do it.

Third Clinton Volunteer Knew Of Smear E-Mail

A third volunteer for Hillary Clinton's campaign was aware of a propaganda e-mail alleging that Barack Obama is a Muslim who plans on "destroying the U.S. from the inside out."
"Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential Candidacy," the email reads. "Please forward to everyone you know. The Muslims have said they Plan on destroying the U.S. from the inside out, what better way to start than at The highest level."

Two Clinton volunteers, Linda Olson and Judy Rose, have already been asked to resign from the campaign for their roles in forwarding the e-mail. The AP reported yesterday that Olson, a volunteer coordinator in Iowa County, sent a version of the e-mail to 11 people, including Ben Young, a regional field director for Chris Dodd's campaign. Young passed it on to the AP.

Kerrey Apologizes to Obama Over Remark
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=4031436
Kerrey's mention of Obama's middle name and his Muslim roots raised eyebrows because they are also used as part of a smear campaign on the Internet that falsely suggests Obama is a Muslim who wants to bring jihad to the United States. Obama is a Christian.

The Clinton campaign has already fired two volunteer county coordinators in Iowa for forwarding hoax e-mails with the debunked claim. Last week, a national Clinton campaign co-chairman resigned for raising questions about whether Obama's teenage drug use could be used against him, so Kerrey's comments raised questions about whether the Clinton campaign might be using another high-profile surrogate to smear Obama.

Bill Clinton Asks for a Second Chance

By Liz Halloran
Posted February 11, 2008

The morning after his wife, Hillary, was routed in three state contests by Sen. Barack Obama in their dead-heat battle for the Democratic nomination, former President Bill Clinton made his case for her before a packed Sunday service at one of the largest black churches in Washington, D.C.
But first he offered an apology of sorts for racially tinged comments he made about Obama and his candidacy that have triggered a backlash in the black community and among many other Democrats.

Clinton invoked his "worship of a God of second chances" in pronouncing himself glad to be at the Temple of Praise, which claims nearly 15,000 members. His invocation of second chances echoed comments he made early last week at black churches in California, where he campaigned for his wife before that state's Super Tuesday primary, which she won.

Bill Clinton To Apologize At LA Black Churches
Once again, Bill Clinton is ready to repent.

On Sunday the former president is scheduled to visit black churches in South Central Los Angeles, where he's expected to offer a mea culpa to those who "dearly loved him" when he was their president, Rep. Diane Watson (D-Calif.) says.
Watson, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus who has endorsed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), tells us she'll usher the former president to more than half a dozen churches in her district where she says he needs to "renew his relationship" with congregants who were turned off by his racially tinged
comments in the days leading up to and following the South Carolina primary. (Such as when Clinton compared Sen. Barack Obama's landslide victory to Jesse Jackson's wins in 1984 and 1988.)

Barack Obama Accepts Apology From Hillary Clinton
Washington D.C. 12/15/2007 09:17 AM GMT (FINDITT)

Hillary Clinton went straight to Barack Obama with an apology following a staffer's remarks about any skeletons that may be lurking in Obama's closet, pointing out that she had accepted the staffer's resignation over the disparaging remarks. Obama accepted her at her word, according to his campaign staff, and is moving on without letting it interrupt his campaign plans.

Obama is currently leading the polls in Iowa and New Hampshire, the two early primary states often considered key to the process, according to numbers at usaelectionpolls.com, but on a national level Clinton still holds a huge lead. The most recently posted poll results show Obama with 31 percent of the probable voters in New Hampshire backing him with 29 percent showing support for Clinton.

Clinton Camp Pushes O-Bomber Links: Ignores Her Own Radical Ties

By: Justin Rood

ABC News - The Hillary Clinton campaign pushed to reporters today stories about Barack Obama and his ties to former members of a radical domestic terrorist group -- but did not note that as president, Clinton's husband pardoned more than a dozen convicted violent radicals, including a member of the same group mentioned in the Obama stories.

"Wonder what the Republicans will do with this issue," mused Clinton spokesman Phil Singer in one e-mail to the media, containing a New York Sun article reporting a $200 contribution from William Ayers, a founding member of the 1970s group Weather Underground, to Obama in 2001.

In a separate e-mail, Singer forwarded an article from the Politico newspaper reporting on a 1995 event at a private home that brought Obama together with Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, another member of the radical group.

Edwards: No Conscience in Clinton Campaign
By Julie Bosman

KEENE, N.H. – John Edwards angrily took on Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton at two news conferences in a row on Sunday, saying that her campaign “doesn’t seem to have a conscience.”

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-01-17-johnson-apology_N.htm?csp=34

COMPTON, Calif. (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton and her campaign tried to mend ties to black voters Thursday when a key supporter apologized to her chief rival, Barack Obama, for comments that hinted at Obama's drug use as a teenager.
The candidate herself, meanwhile, praised the Rev. Martin Luther King and promised to assist with the rebirth of this troubled, largely black city.
------------------

Johnson's comments and remarks by both Clintons before the New Hampshire primary last week had alarmed several black leaders and drew a rebuke from Obama and his top aides.

It began when Hillary Clinton gave an interview in which she seemed to discount King's role in the civil rights movement. Later, former President Clinton cast aspects of Obama's candidacy as a "fairy tale."

It kinda depends if the "between third grad and the Onion" means that the writers at the Onion are more sophisticated than your average third-grader, or less.

123. So predictable. I was wondering when or how Hillary would whip-up the "Indigent Female" vote for PA
It's like a science. Two or three days before a major primary, Hillary sends out her propaganda corp to whip up bogus materials for the media that paint Hillary as a sympathetic figure being attacked because of her gender.

Waaaa...help me women! Waaaa...I'm being attacked because I'm a woman! Help! Help! Aren't you pissed? Help!

Someone please explain to me how this pathetic ruse shows strength of character necessary to be the leader of the US.

J

...her campaign designs ads that take Obama's face and darkens and flattens it, and show a sleeping little white girl in bed at 3:00 a.m., unaware of the danger outside lurking; and they send Matt Drudge a photo of Obama dressed in traditional Somali garb to portray him as a Muslim; and then, to an interviewer who asks Hillary if Barack's a Muslim, she responds, "not to my knowledge," knowing full well he's gone to the same Christian church for 20 years; oh, and she dismisses Obama as someone who "hasn't done the kind of 'spade' work to back up his promises," and her supporter, Andrew Cuomo, tells reporters that Obama can't "shuck and jive" at press conferences...and Geraldine Ferraro says he'd never be a contender if he wasn't black...

...I could go on.
