Hillary Clinton: Karl Rove's Sockpuppet

Hillary Clinton: Karl Rove's Sockpuppet

Betty Cracker 4/19/08

Now she's done gone and peed in her chili. First, the Clinton campaign alienated African Americans -- arguably among the most reliable Democratic voters -- by trying to Jesse Jackson-o-fy Obama. Not a smart move. And now it turns out she's been dissing us Dirty Fucking Hippies behind closed doors too -- using talking points written by Karl Rove himself.

Here's what Hillary Clinton had to say during a private fundraiser about MoveOn.org, the progressive group that was originally formed to defend her husband from the GOP blow-job witch-hunts of the 90s:

"We have been less successful in caucuses because it brings out the
activist base of the Democratic Party. MoveOn didn't even want us to go into
Afghanistan. I mean, that's what we're dealing with. And you know they turn out
in great numbers. And they are very driven by their view of our positions, and
it's primarily national security and foreign policy that drives them. I don't
agree with them. They know I don't agree with them. So they flood into these
caucuses and dominate them and really intimidate people who actually show up to
support me."

To which MoveOn's executive director, Eli Pariser, replied:

"Senator Clinton has her facts wrong again. MoveOn never opposed the
war in Afghanistan, and we set the record straight years ago when Karl Rove made the same claim. Senator Clinton's attack on our members is divisive at a time when Democrats will soon need to unify to beat Senator McCain. MoveOn is 3.2 million reliable voters and volunteers who are an important part of any winning Democratic coalition in November. They deserve better than to be dismissed using Republican talking points."

Okay, let's look at the context: Clinton's whole campaign hinges at this point on concern-trolling about Obama's electability. He can't win, she claims, because he doesn't appeal to so-called "Reagan Democrats." Here's the thing: The fabled "Reagan Democrats" are mostly REPUBLICANS.

...And the fucked-up thing of it is, the bloc she pissed on African Americans and liberals to pursue is never gonna vote for her over McCain in the general election anyway, no matter how many shots of crown she tosses back, how Jesus-y she claims to be or how many varmints she slays with her mighty gun. For a campaign that rests its legitimacy entirely on its political savvy, this is a stunningly stupid strategy.

3. Yup. And to give her the benefit of the doubt, that's the magic of framing.
When we advance ideas using particular frames, we unconsciously promote the ideology behind those frames. A lot of the old school Dems still haven't caught on to this.

4. Yep
Karl Roves new "secret weapon" for this election. And the best part for McCain is all he has to do is use Hillary's stuff in the GE against Obama, which works great since he has no money!

This is a perfect example of why we need someone who will make "real" changes, and hopefully we can get rid of all the DINOs who are nothing more than right wing stooges!

Thank you for your post on Move-On.

But it really is an embrace of every dirty trick that has been a part of the right wing rhetoric since the 1940s.

Here I try and point out that her debate performance really is something out of the 1950s http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x5575573.

and it is having its effect. Don't want to start a thread on it but you need to be prepared for bad news

Clinton pulls ahead on Gallup Daily tracking

PRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup Poll Daily tracking shows that Hillary Clinton now receives 46% of the support of Democrats nationally, compared to 45% for Barack Obama, marking the first time Obama has not led in Gallup's daily tracking since March 18-20.
