Obama needs to release his tax returns NOW
As some of you may know, Obama refuses to release his tax returns from his years in the Illinois senate, despite repeated calls for him to release them. What is Obama trying to hide?

3. Why won't he release his returns from the years in which he was in public life?
Could it be because he accepted contributions from corporations and lobbyists while in office?

12. lol. Clinton doesn't count his state senate experience as "experience" so he doesn't have to
release anything.

What's so disagreeable about this? I fail to understand why there's so much resistance? Why not simply release the tax returns, and put all of this to rest? And why are you, as a supporter, so keen to not have him release them?

if he has them you can ask him to release them, but many people don't have tax records going back 12 years, even people in public life. he certainly didn't live like he had any more income than his leglistative and lecturer salaries provided.

21. Honest question
Having done my taxes this past week, I was reminded that the IRS only asks you to keep your tax returns for 3 years.

If I had to produce tax returns from 7 years ago, I definitely would not be able to.

Is it POSSIBLE he doesn't have them? If so, does the IRS keep documents going that far back that he could request copies from?

I honestly just don't know how it works...

Who's making this demand?

If the Clinton campaign wants those returns, they'd better cough up their returns for the same years. I'm sure they'll have NO problem with that, right? Nothing during the WJC administration to hide, right?

Because they never know what they'll find!

Someone - Pelosi, Reid, Gore, Carter, Dean...SOMEONE - get the hook already.

24. He won't
He'll bluster and orate some lofty prose about how this is an attack on him. He MUST remain part of the "working class", and the amount of money he made in those years and the *way* he made that money (Resko?? hmmm???) would not bode well for teh hoi polli and his manufactured reputation as a "man of the people".

I tell ya....you *hafta* switch over to Hill!

Obama tax returns dating to 1997...

When Obama posted his 2000 to 2006 tax returns on his site, the information was already released, just not posted.

35. How would he know this?
"During this period of time, Sen. Obama was accepting contributions from special interest lobbyists, PACs and even directly from corporations."

And what would these contributions have to do with his tax returns?

BTW, did he say at the time that he would not accept lobbyist money? This was long before his Senate race, or his Presidential race, when he DID say he would refuse lobbyist money.

Maybe his acceptance, at the time, of lobby money is why the DLC was so interested in him - he seemed to share their lack of principles. Then, turning the tables, he rejected the DLC and refused lobbyist money, seeing what pernicious influence it had on the system.

Imagine, a politician maturing in office.

From what I hear, the game is played a lot differently there. Still, none of that is illegal there.

Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 02:02 PM by zulchzulu
They didn't finish their "promise". Once they let us know about the missing $18 million bucks, Obama can then release his tax returns.

The question is:

WHAT ABOUT $18 MILLION UNACCOUNTED FOR?

CUMULATIVE TOTAL (GROSS) INCOME: $109,175,175
Sources
Senator Clinton's Senate Salary: $1,051,606
President Clinton's Presidential Pension: $1,217,250
Senator Clinton's Book Income: $10,457,083
President Clinton's Book Income: $29,580,525
President Clinton's Speech Income: $51,855,599

About 18 million unaccounted for... tax fraud anyone?
