Michelle Obama on 'The Colbert Report' Tonight!--details from the taping

I just got back from the taping. As many of you know, I've been volunteering for the campaign a lot lately, and they were kind enough to get me a ticket to the show. Got to hang out backstage in the green room with The Roots for a while which was fun. Awesome guys.

They started off the show, playing the theme song. They also played the Star-Spangled Banner, which ended up at the end of the show. Great performances.

Colbert spent his monologue mocking the "bittergate" thing. There's a great bit about Hillary that I won't spoil. And he highlighted some of the "best of" pandering moments of the primaries thus far.

Then there was a clip about Colbert going to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Again, I won't spoil this for you.

Then Michelle came on and OH.MY.GOD. she is BEAUTIFUL! Stunning, stunning, stunning. For the ladies out there, her sense of style is incredible. She was wearing a beautiful teal dress with a pleated bodice and ruffle/skirt accent at the waist. She also had the most beautiful gold slingbacks. She was radiant. I was drooling with jealously. To be so elegant. *sigh*

Anyhow, she and Colbert talked about her obviously "elitist" upbringing on the South Side of Chicago. And she did a wonderful job of describing why Barack should be in the White House. Nothing too controversial, but with the dignity of a First Lady in Waiting.

This is a must-see episode, folks, and it was a blast to be there!

Unfortunately, pics were forbidden in the studio and I was too damn shy to ask The Roots for a photo. Maybe I'll take a photo of my awesome backstage pass and post that! ;)

The campaign has been spoiling me too much lately. I was guiltily thinking of all of the organizing I could've gotten done while I was at the taping. I'll have to work twice as hard tomorrow!

I forgot about the pre-taping stuff.

Several people were chosen from the audience to ask Colbert a question before the taping (he comes out to greet the audience). One of them was a woman wearing a Hillary t-shirt. She was um, er, booed...loudly. Kind of in good fun and kind of not. Many people in the audience wearing Barack t-shirts and pins. UPenn appears to be Obama territory!
