Edwards blasts Bush record in visit to Queen Village deli
The N.C. senator, a favorite to be Sen. John Kerry's running mate, was stumping for the challenger.

If Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina ends up in the number-two slot on the Democratic ticket, what he did here yesterday would serve as good practice for his duties on the campaign trail.
Edwards came to the Famous 4th Street Delicatessen in Queen Village to blast the current administration's economic record and sing the praises of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, who defeated Edwards in the party's primaries earlier this year.
Speaking to two dozen invited party loyalists, the senator described President Bush as a man out of touch with the concerns of ordinary Americans and Kerry as one with plans to create jobs, control health-care costs, and assist small business.
"We need a president of the United States who understands the problems middle-class families are facing every day," Edwards said.
Edwards was joined by Rep. Joe Hoeffel, who is running against incumbent Republican Sen. Arlen Specter, as well as by District Attorney Lynne M. Abraham and Rep. Chaka Fattah.

Asked about his own prospects by reporters, Edwards said that his sole purpose in coming to Philadelphia was to press Kerry's case and that he was not going to talk about a choice that is the nominee's alone to make.
"I think Sen. Kerry has made it clear that he wants this process to be private, confidential and dignified, which is the way it should be done," Edwards said.
Before the deli event, Edwards attended a private fund-raising lunch at the Rittenhouse Hotel for two Democratic Senate candidates, Rep. Chris John of Louisiana and Rep. Brad Carson of Oklahoma.
