I see O supporters have entered stage 3 of: "Pennsylvania? We have a problem."
Edited on Mon Apr-14-08 04:01 PM by Lirwin2
Stage one was to deny there was a problem. This stage began with the belief that it would all just "blow over," as the previous media honeymoon with Obama has usually resulted in a refusal to report on Obama gaffes. This stage can be perfectly represented on DU, through threads with titles such as "Obama is a genius... the bitter comment is brilliant," which were common at the onset of this fiasco.

Stage two was deflection en masse, induced by panic, and began soon after Obama gave his disingenuous apology. How could Obama supporters reconcile their previous denial, with their leaders' open confession of wrong-doing? Due to extreme panic, Obama supporters began to incoherently attempt to deflect the issue, typically by bringing up either Bosnia or Clinton's 5 year old IWR vote. A simple search of the word "Bosnia" in the GDP forum brings 132 hits in the past two days. "Sniper" gets 223 hits in the past two days.

Stage three (it is currently unclear whether or not this is the final stage), is extreme, uncontrollable anger. This can be characterized through the generic "Why didn't the (insert sexist slur here) just drop out? Now we're going to lose to Mccain!" threads. In the minds of most Obama supporters, it is Clinton who is responsible for Obama's latest gaffe. This results in a "how dare this woman stand against the inevitable?" mentality, as anger is misdirected away from the "gaffe-creator" (Obama)toward the traditional, "common enemy" (Clinton).

60. Right, and he was responding to someone grousing about how Obama's NAMES are "objectionable".
So let's clarify- it's not just spelling errors, it's bullshit, obviously manufactured phony outrage, some shit the guy's PREACHER said, that he once wore a turban but not a flag pin, that hateful prius-driving latte drinkers support him, and that he has... wait for it!... "objectionable names"...

...this, it seems, is all that's left of whatever Camp Hillary was basing their once "inevitable" drive towards the nomination on.

In other words, y'all are running on fumes, and the little gas tank light is on.

How long? Not long.

If there IS no bitterness out there, then why don't we just turn the White House
keys over to Bomb Bomb McSame?

She had the opportunity to agree with Obama and reinforce the idea that the economic
policies of the past 8 years have bankrupted the middle class, have caused disparities
between rich and poor -- this is RED MEAT FOR THE DEMOCRATIC BASE! Yet she parrots
"elitist and out-of-touch" as if reading from a Limpballs script ... Makes me wonder
if she's really a Democrat anymore ... What's next, the "America for Clinton" Party???

25. You have it. It's said to see DU this way though --
Back at the end of last year, DU was NOT Obama City. If I remember correctly, Edwards and Kucinich generally had the bulk of the supporters here. Obama and Hillary were also represented, but so was everyone else -- we had our Bidenites and Richardians, even Doddies.

I guess most of the people here eventually migrated over to Obama, which is their right. But at this point, shouldn't these people be able to see that their SECOND CHOICE -- Barack -- has made himself unelectable?

So they don't like Hillary. OK. I myself will admit wholeheartedly that Snipergate was BAD.

But there IS A THIRD OPTION: vote Hillary to even this thing out. Go to the Convention. GET TO A SECOND BALLOT. PICK SOMEONE ELSE. Gore. Biden. (Webb? Bayh? Who else? The options are almost limitless...)

Maybe we need an open convention. Maybe we need Al Gore, or Joe Biden (Or Webb, or anyone else you might name.)

DISCLAIMER: I am not renouncing Hillary in this post. I am just trying to make the point to Obama supporters that they do not have to jettison their low opinions of her to be able to accept their own candidate's severe (if not fatal) flaws.

A brokered and deadlocked convention resulting in party insiders throwing out millions of vctes and installing a white male, is the surest way to President McCain. And neither Hillary or Barack is unelectable. And if it did happen, I'll be one of the milions protesting and I fucking well won't vote. Way to unite Hill and Obama supporters.

Oh, and no way on earth will it happen. Nor was snipergate all that awful.

The graph shows a downtrend in recent days in Hillary's standing in PA.
it also shows Obama's numbers are still going up as of 04/13/08.

It shows Hillary's latest attacks have backfired on her, but had no effect on Obama.

47. Argument by search engine is not acceptable evidence
That's something Ann Coulter does.

I find it tremendously ironic that Obama makes mention of the bitterness in rural America because their jobs have gone overseas and their communities have eroded, and the proponent of NAFTA leads the charge defending the common man from Obama's "insults". We all know who the populist is between the two, and it is NOT the person who heads up a leadership position in the DLC and belongs to a "prayer" group whose basis seems to be the divine right of kings.

This whole issue smacks of bullshit, and if it does any damage, it was completely contrived. It is not something new in politics, but the fact that it is a Democrat doing it to another Democrat (it was her supporter who filmed it and pressed the issue) is disgusting.

It is the DLC that has been telling us for years to just vote for the D....not matter how odious. They destroyed Howard Dean over a friggin 5 second sound-byte of a "yell". Then they and their ilk shit all over Ned Lamont's campaign because he's too "liberal"....and now they are going after Obama saying he is an "elitist" and a "snob".

I hope that my fellow DUers finally see how destructive this group is....these DLCers.
