"Feined Outrage-Gate", or "Let Them Eact Cake Gate".

Also, would be happy to have you post pictures and stuff.

Links to your favorite GDP posts with title, please.

Just because I get fancy here sometimes, doesn't mean its expected of

4. McCain's "record" on campaign finance is going to be a criminal record
The real news, folks, the REAL news.
Both Hillary and McInsane are teaming up against Obama for a reason - because they are screwed.

McCain's "record" on campaign finance is going to be a criminal record

by Joe Sudbay (DC) • 4/11/2008 at America Blog

John McCain can't raise campaign money, no one is donating to him. So, he's planning to enter the public finance system for the general election (this, after he just pulled out of the campaign finance system, after having gone in last fall) - and is trying to goad Obama into joining him. But, McCain isn't in a position to challenge anyone on campaign finance. McCain is a campaign finance criminal. It's not that complicated, but reporters can't seem to grasp it. Given McCain's criminality (breaking the public finance spending cap is a criminal offense publishable by up to 5 years in prison), it's the height of hypocrisy for McCain to challenge anyone on campaign finance these days:

"I have a record on reform; Senator Obama has rhetoric on reform," McCain said, adding that the current system "needs further reform."

"I would be glad to join him on reform," McCain told reporters Friday in Lubbock, Texas. "That doesn't change the fact that he committed a year ago to public financing if I would. In direct contradiction to his rhetoric, he's now saying well, he may not do it."

Okay, that doesn't change the fact that McCain is breaking the campaign finance laws by trying to scam the public financing system, which, of course, was not included in Jim Kuhnhenn's article for AP. Of course.

……Obama can't trust McCain's words on campaign finance - McCain was in, then he was out (illegally), now he looks like he's going back in again because he's incapable of raising a dime. McCain's actions on public financing during the primaries speaks louder than any of his words.

10. New website: "Bitter Voters for Obama" (for real)
New website:

Bitter Voters for Obama

You're Darn Right I'm Bitter - Bitter Voters For Obama

One of the most refreshing things about Barack Obama is his fearlessness when it comes to voicing a hard truth.
It's an ice cold glass of unsweetened lemonade: hard to swallow, but unmistakably pure.
The truth is, if you aren't bitter, you're probably voting for someone who is going to give us more
of what we've been getting all along.

...While Clinton and McCain live within the pomp and circumstances of their political propaganda, Obama is showing that he truly understands where voters are coming from. It is why he is winning. Obama's assessment that we are bitter comes directly from understanding that we are tired of the things that come from status quo politicians like Clinton and McCain that have driven the middle class to the edge of extinction. We should be proud to be bitter. It's not a bad thing to be, it just means you have been impacted, and it's not okay.

Of course, the real culprit here is the media...Isn't it more newsworthy that campaigns twist a word to political game, marginalizing our intelligence and language for petty trickery?

It requires minimal intelligence to interpret that Obama meant we were Bitter in that we are fed up, turned off, and have had enough of politics as usual. Personally, I've voted in 5 presidential elections; when I look at what has become of this country during the course of those 20 years, I do feel intensely acrid on the inside. Over the last eight years in particular, when our leaders talk about how they are going to fix something I do respond with cynicism.

So yes I am bitter, and you should be too, and in November we should all vote bitterly against the status quo and for a leader that truly knows how to make Lemons into Lemonade.

DIGG this up!

16. These Are the Sounds of an 11th Hour Gambit Fizzling

These Are the Sounds of an 11th Hour Gambit Fizzling

By Al Giordano The Field April 13, 2008

The presumption (condescending! elitist!) by Senator Clinton and her handlers (including the still-in-the-war-room Mark Penn) that rural Pennsylvania would get all outragey over Senator Obama’s statements is already harvesting the wind that comes after planting ice:

Also today:

The daily Morning Call of Allentown, Pennsylvania has just endorsed Obama.

So has the Scranton Times-Tribune
. In fact, these sentences from that endorsement hint that Clinton’s behavior trying to polarize the populace over Obama’s words has backfired with her ancestral region’s daily:

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is an extremely talented politician who already has secured a unique place in U.S. political history. She repeatedly has proved her political death notices to be premature. She also has demonstrated that she is a master of public policy. And — this is not and should not be taken lightly in an area that prides itself on family and a tradition of supporting its own — the Rodham family has deep Scranton roots.

But Mrs. Clinton also is a political lightning rod. There is little doubt that a second Clinton presidency would further the deep divisiveness that characterizes American politics — a divisiveness that dug itself deep during the Clinton presidency, and even deeper during the Bush-Cheney years.

Of course, when Carville - a first-string Clinton surrogate attack-dog - called rural Pennsylvania “Alabama in between,” Senator Clinton didn’t go calling his words demeaning or elitist.

Real people in rural America - as opposed to “identity politics” obsessed urban and suburban politicians of which Senator Clinton embodies - aren’t looking to feel “offended” and “outraged” over words, and the attempt to whip them into that froth is failing miserably.

As NBC reporter Carrie Dann - following Bill Clinton around rural North Carolina in the wake of his candidate’s most recent message-and-personality change - noted, the gambit is falling flat:

Survey Results In: Local PA Voters not as dumb/bitter as HRC, MSM or Mydd think

by Uncle at DKOS Sun Apr 13, 2008

So how is Bitter-Gate playing outside in the real Pennsylvania world?
Well don't look to the MSM talking endlessly about "bitter." Don't look to HRC who spent all day Saturday speaking about "bitter."
Don't look to MyDD where the number 1, 2, and 3 top rec'ed story is from the same diarist who works for Hillary and tries to stuff bitterness down our gullets. Don't even look to DailyKos where we have become super bitter by this.

In short, screw HRC, MyDD, Kosians, etc. if you want to know how the good folks of PA are taking notice to bitter-gate. Instead, if we want to see what is going on let us take a look at what the local PA papers are saying about this. When looking at what is being said in the local papers across PA we see there is no traction concerning this dumb ass story. It may be used as a smoke screen by Hillary to detract from her string of gaffes this week: Penn, Bill's retelling of Tuzla, Colombia, that nutty laughing fit, etc. As we now see, this week has been one of HRC's worse. And to get us to look the other way they are getting us to bite at "bitter." Well PA isn't bitting on the Nutter Butter sandwich.

Uncle's diary :: ::
UPDATE:
My first Rec'ed post. My wife read one of my posts for the 1st time b/c it made the rec. list. Thanks.
Most important it has been pointed out I missed HRC's Hometown Scranton Paper who went with Obama. For the record, just b/c HRC says Scranton is her HomeTown, don't eat that garbage!!

Who is saying what in the local papers across PA.

The Beaver County Time forgot the "bitterness" and talk only about how Obama is "winning" and how Spector predicts Obama will win the nomination. I guess we can see why HRC is "bitter."

The Bloomburg Press Enterprise has nothing to be "bitter" about but for Bill Clinton is visiting. I guess they missed the "bitter-gate" story.

18. Obama increases his lead from 7 to 9 points in today’s national Gallup tracking poll.

Gallup Daily: Obama Maintains Solid Democratic LeadObama, Clinton hold slim advantages in presidential election preferences

USA Election 2008 Gallup Daily Americas Northern America April 13, 2008

PRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup Poll Daily tracking for April 10-12 shows Barack Obama continuing to hold a solid lead over Hillary Clinton in national Democratic voters' support for the presidential nomination, 50% to 41%.

The latest news in the campaign focuses on remarks Obama made, first reported on Friday, about working class and rural voters being "bitter" about the economy. Clinton and John McCain have seized on the remarks.

Initial indications are that the controversial remarks has not yet hurt Obama -- his 9-percentage point lead in the current results (based on March 10-12 polling) is right in line with the average 8.5-point lead he held in the prior six days' tracking results. Also, his lead in the current results shows a slight improvement from his 7-point advantage in March 9-11 polling. As the story gains momentum in the press, the coming days' tracking results will measure its ultimate impact.

...The results of the general election trial heats are the same as in previous days, with Obama ahead of McCain 46% to 43% and Clinton up on McCain 46% to 45%. Though both results are within the poll's margin of error, the fact that the Democrats' advantages have held up for several days suggests a high probability that they actually hold a lead in the underlying population of registered voters. -- Jeff Jones

22. AC360: What will a Hillary Clinton presidency look like?

What will a Hillary Clinton presidency look like? Carl Bernstein’s View

April 12, 2008 AC 360

The answer by now seems obvious: It will look like her presidential campaign, which in turn looks increasingly like the first Clinton presidency.

Which is to say, high-minded ideals, lowered execution, half truths, outright lies (and imaginary flights), take-no prisoners politics, some very good policy ideas, a presidential spouse given to wallowing in anger and self-pity, and a succession of aides and surrogates pushed under the bus when things don’t go right. Which is to say, often.

And endless psychodrama: the essential Clintonian experience that mesmerizes the press, confuses the citizenry, confounds members of both parties in Congress (not to mention the Clintons themselves, at times) and pretty much keeps the rest of the world constantly amused and fixated.

In fact, the demotion of Penn –- like the departure of Hillary’s acolyte Patty Solis Doyle as campaign manager –- is a confession that, for all her claims of “experience” and leadership abilities, Hillary Clinton has now presided over two disastrous national enterprises, the most important professional undertakings of her adult life, both of which she began with ample wind at her back: the healthcare reform of her husband’s presidency, and now her own campaign for the White House. These two failures -– and the demonizing of her opponents in both instances –- may be the best indication of the kind of President she would be, especially when confronted (inevitably) by unanticipated difficulty and/or entrenched opposition to her ideas and programs.

It is exactly under such circumstances that she usually resorts to the worst excesses that mark her in full warrior-mode — and all its scorched-earth, truth-be-damned manifestations. Bosnia, anyone? Smearing the women involved (or even thought to be involved) sexually with her husband. Responding to Barack Obama with the same mindset, disdain, and arsenal as she did Karl Rove and Lee Atwater, as if Obama’s politics and methodologies were as mendacious and vicious as theirs–and her own. Tax information kept secret (in 1992 to hide her profits from trading in cattle futures; in 2008 to shield the identities of Bill’s foreign clients.) A campaign that openly boasts of throwing “the kitchen sink” at her opponent.

What you see is what you get: Hillary’s cynical view of the larger interests of the Democratic Party, exhibited in her 3 a. m. red telephone ad. And her simultaneous, incongruous suggestion that Barack Obama –- notwithstanding his supposed lack of national security qualifications to be commander-in-chief -– would make a good vice president on her ticket.

23. PA Small Town and Rural Leaders Reject Clinton and McCain Attacks

PA Small Town and Rural Leaders Reject Clinton and McCain Attacks

By Caitlin Harvey - Apr 13th, 2008

Twenty-one elected officials and community leaders from small towns and rural areas throughout Pennsylvania today released an open letter asking fellow Pennsylvanians to set aside Senators Clinton and McCain’s recent attempts at political point-scoring and consider who will fight for them as President.

Read the full text of the letter below, then sign on to the letter and share your story of how you've been frustrated by Washington politics.

Dear Fellow Pennsylvanian,

We live in small towns and rural areas throughout Pennsylvania and we support Barack Obama for President.

A few days ago, Sen. Obama made some comments that his opponents are now using to make him appear as if he is something he is not. Instead of speaking to us honestly about how they intend to solve the problems we are facing, they are playing the same old Washington games that accomplish nothing.

What Sen. Obama said is that over the last 25-30 years, working class people in places like Pennsylvania have been falling behind, and that politicians in Washington haven’t been looking out for them. He also said that, as a result, many people have become frustrated, angry and even bitter about all the broken promises.

He was right.

The politicians who are now saying that we shouldn’t be frustrated are the ones who are out of touch.

People in the towns and communities we live in have seen their jobs shipped overseas. We’ve seen our pensions disappear. We’ve seen our health care costs skyrocket. We’ve seen everything from the cost of gasoline to a gallon of milk go through the roof.

As our families have struggled to make ends meet and our communities fought to stay intact, how has Washington responded? By giving tax breaks to the wealthy, rewarding corporations who ship jobs overseas, and turning the levers of power over to the lobbyists and special interests.

It’s easy to feel a little frustrated when you see these Washington politicians continue to ignore you. But it’s not the only emotion we feel. When someone comes along who is untainted by the system in Washington, who doesn’t take money from federal lobbyists or special interests and who promises that things can be different, we feel something else—hope.

That’s why we’re supporting Barack Obama. Others have come along and promised change, but failed to deliver. Sen. Obama is different than the rest. He doesn’t take money from the special interests, and he speaks honestly about the issues we are facing.

In addition to supporting his plans for jobs, health care and education, we believe that he can deliver on his promises to ensure economic opportunity for family farmers, to provide support for rural economic development, to promote renewable energy in rural America, to protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport, and use guns for the purposes of hunting and target shooting, and to preserve open land for hunting and fishing.

Unlike his opponents who have been part of the Washington establishment for decades, Barack Obama understands the struggles we are going through. We welcomed him with open arms as he made his way through small towns and rural areas on his recent bus tour across the state. And we will work day and night from now until the primary on his behalf not only because he has heard our frustrations, but because he speaks to our hope that Washington can actually work for people like us.

Sincerely,

Ted Alter, State College

24. Jed Report: The real condescension

The real condescension

The Jed Report Sun Apr 13, 2008

If you followed politics back in 1992, you probably remember that Hillary Clinton was ferociously (and unfairly) attacked for making this remark in a 60 Minutes interview about her husband's marital fidelity:

You know I'm not sitting here, some little woman standing by my man like Tammy Wynette.

Hillary's critics absurdly claimed that she was demeaning American women. By March 1992, some had moved on, but only after latching onto what they sought to portray as a bigger act of condescension. Here's William Safire (a conservative columnist for the NYT):

Lyndon Johnson had "the Bobby problem"; Bill Clinton now has "the Hillary problem."

The problem is not that Hillary Clinton, successful lawyer and feminist, is coming across as a cunning political animal, threatening to insecure male voters. On the contrary, she is coming across as a political bumbler by appearing to show contempt for women who work at home.''
.......

The parallels between 1992 and 2008 are obvious, except now the Clintons have become the the vast right-wing conspiracy that they once denounced. (That and the fact that neither Obama has nearly as many skeletons in his or her closet as did the Clintons.) Change a few words, swap Hillary's name out for Michele or Barack, and you'd have an opinion piece that would make Geraldine Ferraro or Lanny Davis proud.

For them to expect us not to notice their hypocrisy -- that is the real condescension.

26. Scranton Newspaper Endorses Barack Obama

Scranton Newspaper Endorses Barack Obama

Jed Report Sun Apr 13, 2008

The Times-Tribune of Scranton, Pennsylvania, writing today:

Barack Obama, for leadership

For Pennsylvania Democrats, the best answer in the April 22 primary is Barack Obama.

In a nomination campaign that has defied convention, Mr. Obama has energized an entire generation of voters that, for the most part, otherwise had checked out of political participation. That, at least, portends a new approach to governance that can help to dissipate the political miasma that has engulfed Washington at least since the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton.

... But Mrs. Clinton also is a political lightning rod. There is little doubt that a second Clinton presidency would further the deep divisiveness that characterizes American politics — a divisiveness that dug itself deep during the Clinton presidency, and even deeper during the Bush-Cheney years.

The first task for the next president is to get past that. And it might not be possible if the presidential cycle goes Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton.

Update: He also got the endorsement of the Allentown-Lehigh Morning Call

SNL: The Petraeus Hearings

Jed Report. Sun Apr 13, 2008

SNL's opening skit was hilarious. The highlight is Hillary Clinton's testimony, about 2:30 into the skit (the 6:55 mark).

Has Hillary injecting her original "opposition" to the Iraq war into questions with Petraeus, she asks him about whether sniper fire
can be really really quiet. There's some reference to Code Pink.

This is a funny videot, click it up at the Jed Report and watch/listen while you work or read or stuff.

John McCain has begun the process of applying for public funds in the general election, the Democratic National Committee today announced that it will file suit Monday with the U.S. District Court in D.C. seeking to compel the Federal Election Commission to conduct an investigation into McCain’s decision to unilaterally withdraw from FEC’s matching funds program. McCain’s campaign is also breaking the spending limits to which they agreed when they applied for the matching funds.

“Before Senator McCain even thinks about applying for public funds in the general election he should clear up questions about his campaign’s compliance with the public funding program in the primaries,” said DNC Executive Director Tom McMahon. “Despite Senator McCain’s apparent belief that the reforms he championed apply to everyone but himself, there is a compelling public interest in determining whether Senator McCain agreed to participate in the matching funds program so he could get a loan for his campaign, then violated the terms of that agreement so he could ignore the spending cap and raise unlimited money from lobbyists and special interests.”

Overheard in the halls of power

Monkey Mucker Sunday, April 13, 2008

"Obama is an elitist!"

"I know, I heard that too."

"Only you and I are ready to be President on day one."
"Agreed."

"Obama will only be ready to deliver a speech on day one."

"Yep. Or maybe bowl a bit."

"Hahahahaha, hahahaha."

"Want to hear another good one?"
"Sure."

"Even after serving on the board of directors of Wal Mart for years, even after caving in to the special interests and big pharma on my health care plan, even after voting for the war, even after being named by Forbes magazine as the candidate most supported by big multi national corporations, I'm still running as a Democrat."

"You go girl. Keep on running and keep up that slash and burn/win at any cost campaign style. It really suits you and that husband of yours."

31. Tonight 8 PM (eastern) CNN's Faith Forum with Clinton and Obama

CNN Faith Forum with Clinton and Obama

April 13, 2008 Clinton up first at Sunday night's Compassion Forum

GRANTHAM, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Sen. Hillary Clinton won the coin toss conducted by the organizers of Sunday night’s Compassion Forum.
The New York senator elected to go first at the forum and will be followed by Sen. Barack Obama.

Clinton and Obama will field questions in back-to-back interviews conducted by CNN’s Campbell Brown, Newsweek's Jon Meacham and prominent members from the faith community who will be in the audience. The Democratic presidential rivals are expected to address topics that include religious faith, poverty, human rights, and the worldwide AIDS crisis.

Programming note: CNN will broadcast the Compassion Forum exclusively and live beginning at 8 p.m. E.T. on Sunday night.

Since they tossed coins, perhaps Hillary won't whine about having to always go first.

34. Obama adds superdelegate
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iNxTApa2sQRu0Xx99P3jt2bEXw7gD900UL7G0

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — One of Minnesota's last uncommitted Democratic superdelegates is backing Barack Obama, the Obama campaign announced Sunday.

Nancy Larson, of Dassel, a Democratic National Committee member, told The Associated Press she decided to support Obama because his campaign will bring new people into the political process, and she believes he has the best chance of winning in November.

"It's looking more and more that the one person who can do it is Barack Obama," Larson said.

But Larson said the choice wasn't easy. As one of the last two uncommitted superdelegates in Minnesota, Larson had been lobbied heavily by Obama's and Hillary Clinton's campaigns. She said she spent countless hours speaking with the campaigns and others about her choice.

Larson joins eight other Minnesota superdelegates who are supporting Obama. Three are backing Clinton.

Larson's announcement leaves Rep. Collin Peterson as the only uncommitted superdelegate from the state.

36. Bloggers at DemconWatch are projecting an additional 5 pledged delegates for Obama
As the state conventions proceed there are small shifts in the actual delegate counts that were projected at the time of the caucus or the primary. Some are projecting that Clinton will lose viability in Idaho and Obama will sweep the states' 18 delegates. If that holds up it means that Idaho will be the 5th largest difference in net delegates (behind New York, California, Georgia, etc.)

At the time the move to even visit Idaho was largely ridiculed by Clinton supporters at DU.

Idaho 18-0 (plus 3 for Obama)
WA 53-25 (plus 1 for Obama)
LA 34-22 (plus 1 for Obama)

37. Bill Clinton Flashback: "All These Economically Insecure White People...Are Scared To Death"
Huff Post:

As the rumination continues over Barack Obama's comments about economically-depressed small town voters, statements made by Bill Clinton on the same topic -- uttered while he was running for president in 1991 -- have now surfaced.

"The reason (George H. W. Bush's tactic) works so well now is that you have all these economically insecure white people who are scared to death," Clinton was quoted saying by the Los Angeles Times in September 1991.

A couple months later, Joe Klein, writing for the Sunday Times, reported that Clinton made the following remarks:

"You know, he wants to divide us over race. I'm from the South. I understand this. This quota deal they're gonna pull in the next election is the same old scam they've been pulling on us for decade after decade after decade. When their economic policies fail, when the country's coming apart rather than coming together, what do they do? They find the most economically insecure white men and scare the living daylights out of them. They know if they can keep us looking at each other across a racial divide, if I can look at Bobby Rush and think, Bobby wants my job, my promotion, then neither of us can look at George Bush and say, 'What happened to everybody's job? What happened to everybody's income? What ... have ... you ... done ... to ... our ... country?'"
