1. I just posted a thread on this
according to an AP article, Kerry make overtures but never officially asked him.

BTW, I think it's not coincidental this came out only hours after the Reagan funeral. Perfect timing.

2. Yeah, it really smells bad.
The "unnamed Democrat" just has to be Zell Miller. It just has to.

6. Why?
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 03:14 PM by lancdem
I'm not sure I understand. I think it is good. It shows Kerry seriously considered a national unity ticket at a time when so many Americans are sick of Bush's ideological partisanship.

4. No, actually I meant the timing is good
It puts Kerry back in the news in a good way. Now speculation about his veep pick will start up again.

If this is true, I want Kerry examined for Alzheimers.

8. The point of this is to embarrass Bush
That the story even hung around for so long makes him look bad, because McCain is very respected by a lot of moderate voters and a sizable number of Dems.

7. What's breaking about it?
I believe I've heard him turn it down a couple hundred times over the last few months.
I like the guy, but I don't want him for my v.p. candidate.
I doubt very much Kerry would ask him, or overture him, or whatever.
He knows better...or at least he should by now. We won't have it.

10. Why would they run this story?
"Senator McCain categorically states that he has not been offered the vice presidency by any one," said McCain's chief of staff, Mark Salter, who would not confirm the officials' account.

This is in the story that is running on Yahoo.

There goes that liberal media again.

12. Ron Fournier
the author of this non-news piece of crap, is an asshole.
He never ONCE got anything right during the Democratic primaries, lest we forget - constantly barking incorrect memes into our lexicon.

I'm with the poster above who said the operative probably was Zell Miller at Karl Rove's insistance.

I love McCain and wouldn't mind his being on the ticket, so that's not my complaint. My complaint is that Fournier is trying to make it look as though ANY Dem would be Kerry's second choice; and therefore, not as good.

I have a theory on this, but it will start a flame war, so I'm keeping mum.

20. I've noticed this also.
Who are these unnamed Democratic sources, and why are they hiding? What are their reasons for declining to be named?

14. Do we need any further proof that McCain is untrustworthy?
He can't keep his big mouth shut about anything.
He leaked this shit, not Kerry.

21. Actually, it's determined by state law.
Connecticut allows it. I don't know if Arizona does.

The most obvious point is: Why would McCain do run for VP. If he wins, he gets to be VP. If he loses, where does he go from there? The repukes won't welcome him back. He would lose any relevence he ever had in the Senate.

He'll run for President in 2008, although I'm not sure he would run against Kerry. More likely he accepts a cabinet position if Kerry wins. No risk, bigger payoff.

McCain rejects Kerry's veep overture

And WHY would being turned down be a GOOD THING?????????//
THe original rumor may have been useful......but when it's now elevated to be "asked to consder" and "turned down" or "rejected" in headlines all over the place, with McCain in the active voice....it's NOT a good thing.....
