Obama the Magician ...watch the hands....watch the hands
Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 10:08 AM by ElsewheresDaughter

One of the things most disconcerting about Obama is that he is the Master of Misdirection. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misdirection Like a magician who distracts you in order to pull off a trick, Obama is the opposite of who he claims to be.

Here are some examples:

After the Wright story broke, Obama flatly told Anderson Cooper that he never heard Wright make those statements. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0803/14/acd.02.html

Then he lectures us on race, admits hearing those statements and, here’s the fake-out, equates Wright’s unacceptable hate sermons with Ferraro making an obvious observation about his candidacy.

Obama is running an ad in Pennsylvania touting the fact that he doesn’t take money from oil companies. Did you see that? No one takes money from oil companies; it’s illegal. But Obama does take money from oil executives. http://facts.hillaryhub.com/archive/?id=6802

Obama attacked Hillary on NAFTA while campaigning in economically troubled Ohio, and then a member of his inner circle tells the Canadians that all this talk is just politics. Vous devez être plaisante? http://www.taylormarsh.com/archives_view.php?id=27115

Obama is running as the unity candidate. He unexpectedly loses New Hampshire to Hillary and then his campaign runs a relentlessly negative and racially charged campaign heading into South Carolina. They accuse the Clintons of being racists.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/01/12/obama-camps-memo-on-clin_n_81205.html Come again?

While in the Illinois State Senate, Obama votes repeatedly against the right’s of gun owners. Now he is touting his credentials as a constitutional scholar and his belief in the 2nd Amendment. http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/2/16/22186/4153 Watch out, Pennsylvania sportsmen!

Obama claims he is pro-choice, but when he was in the Illinois State Senate he voted ‘present’ on issues of choice http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/02/the_everpresent_obama.html — telling us he was keeping the seat warm but not voting to support women’s rights.

Obama’s campaign is based largely on one speech he gave in 2002. But he has done absolutely nothing to end the war in Iraq since entering the Senate in 2005,http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/04/04/the-iraq-confidential-paper-obama-doesnt-want-you-to-see/ except to remind us about the speech he gave.

Obama tells us he believes every vote should be counted, but it’s his campaign that is the only thing holding up counting Michigan and Florida, or having a re-vote. Which is it, Senator Obama? http://facts.hillaryhub.com/archive/?id=6607 Do Democrats count votes or not? A stolen nomination is a lost election.

This tiring magic act never ends. Some are fooled by the tricks; others are beginning to see.

 The GOP will highlight the lies while ignoring McCain's lies and deceits, if Obama gets the nom.

Of course, they would do the same with Hillary.

And if they can find no lies or deceit, they simply make 'em up and the corprat owned media will do their part, as they have in the past.

Either way, we are so screwn!

33. Sorry, I'm too busy shaking my head over latest Clinton campaign lie...
...when Bill Clinton, desperately running for his third term, defended Hillary's Bosnia sniper lie by criticizing those who called her on it because, according to Bill, she only said it once, late at night, when she was very tired.

We all know she said it at least three times, one of which was at 10:30 in the morning on St. Patrick's Day.

13. Hm
"an obvious observation about his candidacy."

Black men have it so obviously better than everyone else. Oh look, there's one across the street from my office. I think I'm going to tell him. Won't he be overjoyed!

"admits hearing those statements"

Re-read the speech. He admits knowing that Wright is controversial. The guy's a politician. He's not going to contradict himself with only three or four days of lag time.

"He unexpectedly loses New Hampshire"

Only if you watch cable news.

"Obama attacked Hillary on NAFTA while campaigning in economically troubled Ohio, and then a member of his inner circle tells the Canadians that all this talk is just politics"

Which later turns out to be false, retracted, and apologized for by the Canadians. Say, what's going on with Mark Penn and Colombia? Just curious.

"Obama claims he is pro-choice, but when he was in the Illinois State Senate he voted ‘present’ on issues of choice — telling us he was keeping the seat warm but not voting to support women’s rights."

This I might actually agree partially on, except that planned parenthood and NOW have actually DEFENDED his stance because they apparently understand the innerworkings of Illinois politics. I'm more apt to believe them than you.

"Obama’s campaign is based largely on one speech he gave in 2002. But he has done absolutely nothing to end the war in Iraq since entering the Senate in 2005, except to remind us about the speech he gave."

Hold on. I got something for you. It's another great speech that makes me feel all tingly inside. It reads:

"Today we are asked whether to give the President of the United States authority to use force in Iraq should diplomatic efforts fail to dismantle Saddam Hussein's chemical and biological weapons and his nuclear program.

I am honored to represent nearly 19 million New Yorkers, a thoughtful democracy of voices and opinions who make themselves heard on the great issues of our day especially this one. Many have contacted my office about this resolution, both in support of and in opposition to it, and I am grateful to all who have expressed an opinion.

I also greatly respect the differing opinions within this body. The debate they engender will aid our search for a wise, effective policy. Therefore, on no account should dissent be discouraged or disparaged. It is central to our freedom and to our progress, for on more than one occasion, history has proven our great dissenters to be right.

Now, I believe the facts that have brought us to this fateful vote are not in doubt. Saddam Hussein is a tyrant who has tortured and killed his own people, even his own family members, to maintain his iron grip on power. He used chemical weapons on Iraqi Kurds and on Iranians, killing over 20 thousand people. Unfortunately, during the 1980's, while he engaged in such horrific activity, he enjoyed the support of the American government, because he had oil and was seen as a counterweight to the Ayatollah Khomeini in Iran."

<snip>
http://clinton.senate.gov/speeches/iraq_101002.html

So what else do we need to talk about? Oh yes, Obama flew down to Florida and up to Michigan, similarly to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and used his magical appendages to force both states legislations to move up their primaries. Even though both states knew they would be punished, they did it anyway. Now one of the elections has even been deemed unconstitutional. That's some magic.

So, anyway, great post. I look forward to your responses. Especially in regards to Hillary Clinton helping George Bush send 4000 men and women to die in Iraq. I almost wish she was a magician so she could bring those lost souls back.

When the vast majority of the public sees the accusations, sees the rebuttals, and Obama's numbers continue to go up, I would say that they were successfully rebutted.

55. I fully expect it, since she is DLC, and the DLC is the republican wing
of the democratic party - the DLC would rather see a republican win than a progressive populist OR anyone backed by progressive populists. I fully expect that 10% of Hillary supporters will abandon the party. But that still won't be enough to defeat Obama.

Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 11:15 AM by ProSense
"Obama’s campaign is based largely on one speech he gave in 2002"?

Here's part of the reason Hillary is losing the primary (and credibility):

60. People will be writing books someday, uncovering the real foundation of Obama's political career.
In my opinion, the true story will start at Harvard, where Rezko first attempted to recruit Obama, and will wind all around Chicago's corruption through to the corrupt Illinois legislature. The story will pick up on how Obama was first chosen by Kerry to give his speech at the 2004 convention, and will be highlighting Brazile's words in 2004 annointing Obama.

Obama's sleight of hand is his greatest asset, one he performs proficiently in front of his followers.

61. Great post but wasted on Obama fans, who don't read, only attack.

Someday they'll see the man behind the curtain and realize they've been hoodwinked by a smooth talker.

I hope that happens soon so they'll realize it's either HRC or McCain who'll be president. It'll be McCain if the Dems are foolish enough to nominate Obama.

Then we can remember Obama along with Kerry, Gore, Dukakis, Mondale, McGovern, Humphrey. Those are elections I voted in and I'm not voting for another lost cause. I also stood in line for three hours to vote for Carter to have a second term and Reagan won.

Carter only won his first term because he ran against Ford, who pardoned Nixon as soon as he became president. Carter's a decent man but the GOP pretty much gave us that one since sentiment was strong against Nixon and the GOP then.

The only real electoral success we've had since FDR is with Bill Clinton, who won two terms and could have won more, without rigged voting machines, and we can have success again with Hillary Clinton.

JFK was assassinated in his first term. LBJ served the rest of Kennedy's term and was re-elected, chose not to run again in 1968. Truman served the rest of FDR's fourth term and was re-elected once, lost the second run to Eisenhower.

So between FDR's four terms and today, we've had only one Democrat who served two full terms and that was Bill Clinton. Hillary Clinton can be a two-term president as well.

90. It's the lies that will do him in, because of how they will be painted as judgment and character

It's the lies that will do him in, because of how they will be painted as judgment issues and character issues. That makes a harsh clash with the image of who he is candidate-wise, and undercuts part of his appeal.

That's especially true regarding his relationship with Wright and how that fits with Michelle's statement about pride of citizenship etc. It seemed to me that she practically disappeared from media coverage for a week to 10 days after the Wright mess boiled up. The RW smear machine already has enough material to make some dandy swiftboat ads, and more is probably coming because the campaign is continuing the deeper hole tactic.

Of course, anyone could make the obvious ads and eviscerate the Obama campaign anytime, but any Dem rival doing so would pay a very high self-sullying fee. The Rs would only do them after the convention probably, when the target is locked in and there is less time to overcome the deluge, a la Kerry.

When I say it's the lies, I mean they sure look like lies to me, when Obama is under pressure and trying to deter and refute the Wright baggage. But some might call them misstatements or faulty memories or innocent misrecollections - that really doesn't matter if what people are discussing is whether he was telling a lie or making an error. If you're doing that, the RW mission is accomplished.

Here's just one example of what lies ahead, so to speak:

"One of them I had heard about after I had started running for president, and I put out a statement at that time condemning them.

The other statements were ones that that I just heard about while we were -- when they started being run on FOX and some of the other stations."

Senator Obama, March 14, 2008

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/03/obama_talks_to_major_garrett_o.html

I am certain that is not true. It conflicts with other statements - in fact this statement conflicts with itself when he said he previously heard about exactly "one" but then condemned "them", leaving obvious questions about which "them" and how he found out unanswered, and unasked by the starry eyed press. So far. He will always have the third degree about theses matters looming in his future because he refuses for some reason to do what it would take to get the mess behind him. It does make one wonder about his judgment, yes.

107. The reality is that most politicians embellish and make...
distortions. They also mis-speak, and many do outright lie. The difference with Obama is that has painted himself as someone who is 100% all of the usual doings of politicians.
Basically, he has built himself a glass house. As nice and shiny as it is, it is also highly delicate.
Any small mistake from Obama will easily made into a huge issue come the fall election.

99. Tired, stale, misleading nonsense that only someone without a clue would post
OK.

So people who have jobs at oil companies have donated to Obama's campaign. Never mind that Hillary gets LOTS of money from oil interests.

So it turns out that Hillary actually contacted the Canadians about her NAFTA pap, except it now revealed that she was FOR NAFTA when she was First Lady.

So Bill Clinton yapped that even Jesse Jackson won South Carolina...and a few surrogates were race-baiters that had to eat their words.

So what if Planned Parenthood wanted Obama to vote "present" to stop bad legislation.

So what if Obama DID know that the Iraq War was a DUMB war and Hillary didn't mind sending troops into a quagmire that will cost at least a trillion dollars (that's $1,000,000,000,000) with over a million dead. Yeah, she gets a free pass. And Obama is supposed to vote against the troops in harm's way and the vets returning because the Heroine of Tuzla was a dumbass.

As for Michigan and Florida, I guess following rules don't matter, right? FUCK RULES, RIGHT?

Your Hillbottishness is truly desperate. She's toast. Give it up. Vote for McSame for all I care.

The thing is that the votes that he missed were on highly controversial matters.
Obama is unwilling to take a strong stand on controversial matters. That is very telling about his character, or should I say, his lack of character.
