Clinton camp hints Obama has dropped the ball on Afghanistan

http://www.vertical-politics.com/2008/03/about-that-sub...

snip /

The idea that is being floated around by the Clinton camp that Barack Obama has dropped the ball on Afghanistan by not holding a hearing in Congress is refuted. Turns out that:

...the Foreign Relations Committee’s Subcommittee on European Affairs doesn’t have primary jurisdiction over the campaign in Afghanistan. The Armed Services Committee (on which Senator Clinton serves) does.

The Subcommittee on European Affairs doesn’t have secondary jurisdiction over the campaign in Afghanistan. The full Foreign Relations Committee (which has held hearings on Afghanistan) does.

The Subcommittee on European Affairs doesn’t even have tertiary jurisdiction over the campaign in Afghanistan. The Subcommittee on Near East and South and Central Asian Affairs does.

Both Clintons, obviously, fully understand how the Senate operates; and recognize that any freshman senator who hopes to have any influence in the upper chamber isn’t going to hold hearings on a matter almost wholly tangential to his subcommittee’s jurisdiction.

2. Yes I heard that as well
When Obama stated he had more foreign policy experience then Clinton or McCain, he stated he lived in bangladesh until he was 11 years old. I think it was Lou Dobbs that said Obama heads that committee and they haven't done anything.

7. C'mon, at least TRY to get your facts straight.
He lived in Indonesia as a young child, not Bangladesh. And he did not say he had more EXPERIENCE - he said he had better credentials - IOW, despite experience, Hillary has it wrong, and getting it right is the important thing.

5. What lie might that be about the statement Obama made about foreign experience
That Lou Dobbs stated was a lie? Also, Obama did state he had more foreign experience because of his growing up. What about it is a lie?

11. Hillary laughs and says
"Well I’m somewhat shocked by that since I don’t see any evidence of it," she said. "This is kind of hard to square with his failure to ever have a single policy hearing on the only responsibility he was given, chairing the European and NATO subcommittee the foreign relations committee.

8. Who would of guessed the SubCommitte on European Affairs doesn't have jurisdiction on another
continent?

This one is even worse then the ridiculous cherrypicking of Kerry votes by the Bush/Cheney campaign.

12. True and it insults the Democratic leadersip of the SFRC
Biden, the Chair, has held 2 hearings on Afghanistan in the full committee and Kerry held one in his Near East and South Asia committee. The Clintons attacks imply that the SFRC has not done its job. Biden, Hagel and Kerry were IN Afghanistan in February.
