I Just Got An Email From Sen. Casey...
Earlier today I got a flyer in the mail;

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=5429136&mesg_id=5429136

and then I got this email. I'm convinced! I'm voting for Obama!

3. I'm still confused
How Santorum got elected in the first place. I mean we haven't voted for a Repuke President since Bush I in 1988.

6. Yeah I was hoping
They would eat their own by nominating that nut Toomey against him. Sadly Toomey was my representative for his short tenure in the house.

21. Several reasons.
1) The "Republican Revolution" backlash. Wofford wasn't the only dem incumbent ousted that year by a long shot.

2) Wofford had liberal stances on gun control and abortion. Big, big no-no in PA. Even a lot of the urban areas in PA that trend Democratic are quite religiously / socially conservative on a lot of issues.

3) Santorum just ran a better campaign. He kicked the crap out of Wofford in the Philly suburbs, which still lean Republican, though not as heavily as they used to.

16. not much of an improvement
At least he's not religiously insane. I supported Pennacchio but the party leadership said Casey was the man. Better to take one step forward than two steps back. I figure if you can get part of what you want and then lean on people that aren't 100% on your team that's better than nothing.

4. PA guys and gals
I want to ask you. I'm from Iowa and the Des Moines Register's polling was dead on. Who do you trust in my former home state for ACCURATE polling?

8. to be honest
Other than trends for where previously registered dems are going I don't trust any of the polls. We just added 250,000 new democrats which is adding 7% to the people eligible to vote. The polls don't know anything about who these people are so they can't be calling them.

10. Here is my estimate
With the average polling being at him down by 6 points lets assume 3 million voters. I believe new registrations will go to Obama 2-1 because the campaign had a huge voter registration drive and traditionally he has attracted more Independents and Republicans. The limbaugh effect should be minimal because there is way too much pre-thought involved and only the craziest political junkies would go far enough out of their way to register a month before the primary. With the new registrations I figure Obama adds 165,000 votes to his total or 5%. So I think Hillary is winning by one point. That's just my opinion right now.

17. I trust those I speak to face to face
Unfortunately, I'm not a very social person. I've been doing the Zogby polls for the last few years and have dealt with the phone polls and they all suck donkey dong. The responses, even if the question is valid, don't generally give you a reasonably accurate choice. Quite a few of the questions are so vapid or incidental that you can't give a meaningful response. I was told that in military intelligence training and police training that questioning and response were multi-level. The first question you ask isn't really about the information you're looking for, it's just to establish how honest the subject is.
Polling is only as accurate as the intelligence and focus of the pollsters. If you don't ask the right questions, you'll never get the right answers.
As with everything in life, nothing is certain.

14. His kids helped convince him to endorse Obama
Casey said in the Phila Inquirer that he had intended to stay uncomitted. Then, he went on a rainy vacation with his family and realized just how Obama had excited his kids - and their friends - and his friends kids. That helped put him over the edge to endorse Obama.
