Here is an article that I found a from mid Feb. It is a MUST read.
In an unusual move Sen. Clinton came out in defense of Mike Huckabee today.
Huckabee is faced with a growing chorus to abandon the uphill battle against John McCain for the Republican nomination and Hillary Clinton is calling for Huckabee to fall back on what she sees as his trump card - his gender.
She is portraying the calls for Huckabee to quit as male chauvinism.
In comments leaked to the Times, Sen. Clinton is said to have told aides that Huckabee would not be "bullied out" of the White House race and in a conversation with two allies compared his plight to "big boys"(Republican Party) trying to bully a woman.
During a weekend interview with the Post - arranged at her request - she was asked whether Gov. Huckabee could beat Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee.
She responded: "I'm saying Huckabee has a better chance. You cannot as a Republican win the White House without a very big women's vote. What I believe is that women will turn out for Huckabee."
Huckabee spoke out himself, "I'm highly offended that Santorum, Rush, Romney or any of these guys would dare suggest that I'm the one who ought to step aside," says Huckabee. "We can't suppress democracy, there are still many states with voters who want their voices heard."
When aides are pressed as to how Huckabee can catch up to McCain's daunting lead, they are confident. "Huckabee can still win this thing... a big win in VA and Maryland will vault him into strong momentum. He will then be able to win the remaining primaries." They also point out that Huckabee does well in the deep south. "The republican nominee will need to win states like Georgia and South Carolina if they want to win in the GE. McCain will potentially be at risk of losing these states."
Many Republican insider's have shown concern over the Huckabee Campaign's tactics. They point in particular to the rumors that the campaign is trying to pick off McCain's pledged delegates.
James Dobson an avid Huckabee supporter furthered the controversy, "Huckabee may be behind in the delegate count, but these delegates aren't really pledged. They can change their minds. They may come to see that the caucuses that have seemed to benefit Romney and McCain are undemocratic." Many Huckabee supporters have complained about the Caucus system. The concern is that Caucuses favor McCain because his supporters are mostly retired and don't have to work weekend jobs or raise families.
All this comes on a week filled with the Norris fallout. Chuck Norris is facing complaints from the McCain camp after his controversial comments that McCain was lucky to have been a tortured POW because he wouldn't be where he is if he hadn't been tortured. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2b1D5w82yU
