8. Apparently we're not the only ones reading their tax returns.
Maybe her donors have finally gotten a wake up call about how Hill and Bill want to keep their money while running on the backs of their poor, ignorant, old core of supporters. The gall of her to ask people on Social Security to send her money to run for president. It's not just that she's rich, it's that she hasn't spent a dime of her own money to run for president. Even the five million she kicked in was loaned, not given, to the campaign. She wants 50,000 supporters to each squeeze out an extra $100 so she can pay herself back that $5 million. That is the true measure of who Hillary is and what she is all about, which is to say, Hillary.

12. Doyou really think
her personal money is the same fund as her campaign's money? This attack is old and stupid - Kerry was worth far more than Clinton and didn't finance his own campaign. Edwards is rich and didn't finance his. This new attack that "OMG! They're rich!" is just dumb.

and Edwards also doesn't have as much $$ as the Clintons.

However, you are correct, she shouldn't have to spend her own funds to run for office if she has financial support to do so.

I cannot believe the blatant short-sightedness of my fellow Americans. I do believe she's got more policy plans than the sitting President has, and they are all good ideas, plus, the Clintons have proven they can get it done, even with a hostile Congress. Barry is a usuper. Boo on you, Barry.

i am struck_dumb by your Stalinist image of Barry. I prefer him in his Hawaii private school days, smiling and shooting hoops. Good prep for Prez. I feel like it is some bogus high school class president vote this year, and its basketball team vs strict Mrs Clinton the principal's office assistant. That's really why I don't live in the States anymore. It's a country with no backbone any more. Putting Hill in would go a long way to getting America's balls back, ironically.

been in the Senate, the leglislature, taught law at the University of Chicago(!) --they don't ask just anybody to do that, organized in Chicago, managed to leapfrog and win a primary in a heavily Democratic district in Chicago and most recently, came out of nowhere to essentially beat the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party by running a grassroots campaign with an effective message and many small donations that have surpassed Hillary's own fundraising.

He's done a hell of a lot more than "shoot hoops" (whatever the stupid implication you intended...) :eyes:

I want a person for President who has worked at it all her life. A serious person, not a happy-go-lucky guy. We've had that, he's in office right now.

I'm glad Barry's been in the Senate, I think he should have been a decent DEMOCRAT and stayed in the Senate for a few years longer, worked on his political relationships for a few years longer, worked on his ability to respond to spontaneous questions a while longer, and THEN ran. Maybe. He's succeeded in snuffing out her well-deserved momentum for Himself, he's the one splitting the party, he is a total showboater. My Democratic Opinion, CreekDog.

Health care and other policy initiatives

--snip--
. The plan was quickly derided as "Hillarycare" by its opponents; some protesters against it became vitriolic, and during a July 1994 bus tour to rally support for the plan, she was forced to wear a bulletproof vest at times.<134><135> The plan did not receive enough support for a floor vote in either the House or the Senate, although both chambers were controlled by Democrats, and proposal was abandoned in September of 1994.<134> Clinton later acknowledged in her book, Living History, that her political inexperience partly contributed to the defeat, but mentioned that many other factors were also responsible. The First Lady's approval ratings, which had generally been in the high-50s percent range during her first year, fell to 44 percent in April 1994 and 35 percent by September 1994.<136> Republicans made the Clinton health care plan a major campaign issue of the 1994 midterm elections,<137> which saw a net Republican gain of fifty-three seats in the House election and seven in the Senate election, winning control of both; many analysts and pollsters found the plan to be a major factor in the Democrats' defeat, especially among independent voters.<138> Opponents of universal health care would continue to use "Hillarycare" as a pejorative label for similar plans by others.<139>

---snip---

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillary_Rodham_Clinton#Health_care_and_other_policy_initiatives

So fucking much for Hillary "proven they can get it done, even with a hostile Congress'" When she couldn't do it with a majority democratic house and senate and singlehandedly made the Democratic Party lose control over them.

The health care defeat is proof that Hillary is a progressive, serious candidate for change.

It was too much too soon, but she worked her heart out for it.

When the Democrats later lost their majority, her husband shut the govt down to force his budget, and maintained the ability to pass legislation for the rest of his tenure. That's some serious backbone there, don't you think?

41. Hmmm...
Bill is not a disadvantage from my viewpoint, and as far as my example goes, I think it is reasonable to assume that she would be just as able to put the clamps on if she had to. Couple who are married that long are usually very similar people, and she'll have him as an advisor as much as he had her as one. To be honest, at the time when she was working on the Universal Healthcare, I was irritated that she was doing the job because she was only there because of who she married. I wasn't married then, of course. She was trusted and capable and so will Bill be.

46. Bill was the president (and was married to her for quite a long time by then) when she drafted the
disastrous HC bill. Why do you think he would be in any better position when she is the president? Don't forget Bill will only be holding the very limited security clearance that he has now as former president.

Some of the members of the house and senate that saw this fiasco unravel are still there. Don't think for a second they will risk another 1994.

It's an intentional anglicizing of Barack as if Barack isn't good enough. Ask any latino who grew up with teachers who insisted on calling Ricardo, Richard or Lorenzo, Larry or Ana, Ann.

His name is BARACK not Barry.

Penn probably refused to accept an IOU. Given the campaign's debt, I'd want cash too.

With $109M in seven years plus $20M estimated for 2007, she could kick in a few more bucks herself. At least pay off the bills.

53. I would hope that I'm wrong but I think anyone who donates to her campaign is helping her pay her...

bills. Also... I wouldn't count the Clintons out but I think it's strange to hear that they could come back like they did in the 90s when this is 2008. 2008 is a long way from 94. The comparisons can not be made. Some of you are being nostalgic but things have changed if you hadn't noticed. The future is now and I think that in 2008 Obama is going to be the nominee and the eventual president of the United States for the next 8 years. Please stop living in the past people. We aren't back there anymore.

56. That's for the myPA donations only
I'm sure she got a lot more than that total. I doubt she'll get that 2.5 million for TV ads in time though.

58. OP is very misleading. This is her My Pennsylvania page, and the donations specifically to it. It is
not the main Contribute page (but My Pennsylvania is on the front page of her site).

Also, the url right now does not even list the amount raised. (Perhaps it did when OP posted, but it has been deleted by Clinton camp because of low total?)
