I Told You So Is Almost Here
Obama has got this baby on lock.

And yes, I will celebrate.
Yes, I will dance in the streets.
And yes, I will even gloat a little (feelings be damned).

Because we. f#cking. earned it.

6. Well, no.
Clinton had "the lock" from the beginning. It wasn't until people started voting (and, actually, until after Super Tuesday) that there was "gloating" involved...and that was mainly a response to the idea that Clinton was the anointed candidate.

so that she does not steal this election with her thoughts of purloining pledged delegates.

I do not trust her farther than I can throw her and being a rather petite person, that is not far at all.

You actually saw a post by one poster in GDP suggesting that Hillary be impeached from the Senate -- but you have now expanded that to say "the Obots" want her impeached.

See, this is exactly how the nastiness gets started. Would you care to rephrase?

...This is nothing but a spineless ad hominum attack.

The Democratic Party has the Big Tent, remember? We are the tolerant ones, remember? We are the ones who applaud diversity, remember?

So quit telling Hillary supporters that they aren't really Democrats. The definition of "Democrat" has changed a lot even in the last 10 years. I used to be berated for being "too rightwing" of a Democrat, and now I'm usually called part of the "far-left wing" of the Democratic Party.

I have to say, I have never been at a message board where there is so much of this "you're not really a Democrat" bullshit being thrown around. It makes me wonder what is unique about DU that causes this to happen?

Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 06:18 AM by democrattotheend
I can tell you from my experience in 2004 that it is really painful seeing a campaign end when you have so much emotionally invested in it. I really hope that fellow Obama supporters will have the decency to be gracious when the time comes. If you want to gloat, make a donation to DU and go to the Obama supporters group, or gloat offline with other Obama supporters. I hope the mods will lock any obnoxious threads like this if Clinton does eventually drop out. Our goal at that point should be to reach out to Clinton supporters and encourage them to get on board when they are ready, not to rub it in their faces or harass them about whether they are voting for Obama in the general.

I respect anyone who would not only vote for the candidate that is not "theirs", but also work for them. Good on you. Let's not gloat, Obama supporters, just celebrate with respect, when and if the time is right. Let's reflect our candidate as best as we can, and try to save our Party, which is far superior to the other Party.

20. If you must gloat, do so in November. Only then, will it be earned.
You may celebrate, and of course, "you can dance if you want to" -- but the VERY next step is to be gracious to our fellow democrats and refrain from poking at people in pain. I know what it is like to lose hard battles. If you are a dem, you do too.

So have some empathy, if you can manage that.
If not, log off and go dance your ass off in a club somewhere!
That way, you will not harm anyone.

....It's one thing to not want to vote for someone you think would make a lousy president, but to hold your vote hostage with the terms for its release being that you have to be treated a certain way?

I agree that Obama supporters who are thinking about gloating if Obama wins are not thinking about long-term strategy and winning in November, and if I was a Hillary supporter, I'd be insulted, too.

But to hold your vote hostage?

64. I'm not holding anything "hostage."
The quality (or lack thereof) of a candidate's supporters says a lot about the candidate and his message. I have thought from the beginning that Obama is an arrogant ass, and his quite a few of his supporters bear that out in the way they treat those who disagree. It's not just here on DU, either; it's all over the blogs (DailyKos, e.g.) and the media. I don't see many of his supporters reaching out and asking for MY vote, and likewise I don't see Obama doing it either. We're just expected to fall in line.

Bottom line: It's my vote. And so far, I haven't made up my mind what I'll do if Obama is the nominee. But his supporters sure as hell aren't helping, and perhaps if they actually gave a damn about the party or unity (to say nothing of actually WINNING in the fall) they'd be a bit less condescending to other Democrats.

Look at some of the posts in this thread. Why would I work alongside the people who are insulting me now and will be gloating then? Let Obama supporters spend their money, I'm not going to. There are enough local actions I can take that hopefully won't bring me face to face with any obnoxious BO supporters. And of course not all of them are like that, but enough are.

Some (but not enough) of us are able to see the writing on the wall. When Obama loses PA at 7pm and you know you can go to sleep for the night, many others will be posting on DU in dismay. How did it happen. They'll be blaming everyone from Hillary Clinton to the media.

But the people on this board who knew how to add prior to November won't be gloating. They'll be dissapointed, in that they couldn't convince even the most active Democratic supporters that their candidate wasn't electable.

...But, still it's just not polite to gloat until it's final. Also, some of HRC's supporters aren't whinig little asshats, and I think it would hurt their feelings. They might feel a premature Gloat-O-Rama, before Hillary had left the race, was disrespectful to her supporters.
