Don't underestimate Grandpa McBush
In 2004, people thought it would be impossible for Bush to win a 2nd term. He was unpopular because of the war that seemed to rage on with no end, polling in the 30s, etc. So that everything seemed to point toward an inevitable victory for Kerry in 2004. Kerry had a strong showing and pretty much mopped the floor with Bush in all of the televised debates, after all. So it seemed inevitable: Kerry was going to be our next POTUS. But instead, the inevitable turned into an unexpected defeat. But why? What went wrong? I think because as November approached, the Kerry campaign and his supporters became more and more complacent, overconfident, cocky even. There is no way the American public would be crazy enough to go for another 4 years of Bush, everyone seemed to feel.

And then the swiftboat attacks began, and no one was prepared for it, because they had let their guard down. Kerry was stunned by it. It was the knock out blow. The attacks devastated the Kerry campaign and knocked him off his feet, never to get back up again. Kerry seemed too winded by then to even challenge the dubious results in Ohio, like he promised.

My advice to the Obama campaign, his supporters is simple: don't allow the stupid act to fool you again. GWB used it to great effect in 2004. The stupid act is designed to make you relax and put your guard down, to let McBush sneak up on you and deliver the sucker punch when you least expect it. Expect Grandpa McCain to try the same thing. Heck, since it worked so well before he is probably acting it out right now. So always remain alert, humble, and never let your guard down.

2. It was the timing. If Rove.Co. had pulled that 3-6 months earlier Kerry and
his staff would have routed him.

You have to give him that much. He played the oakies like a violin.

3. McSame ain't no big thing.
Obama will get his foot into the dumbass patriotism bullshit door and spank them down with their hypocrisy.

I saw a 527 in the making today. McSame was expounding on what he feels is spectacular progress and success in Iraq at the same time Breaking News interrupted his speech regarding four mortars lobbed into the Green Zone. The commercial writes itself.

Also McSame has consistently voted against veteran benefits and opposes the new GI bill.

Pull up your socks, Democrats. This is an argument we've been itching to have with these assholes, and Obama is the one to take it to them. No mercy.

yeah, that's what everyone was saying about Bush in 2004.

10. and kowtowing to the fear-mongering even in politics is lame
Those f*ckers are going down. They've got nothing but bullshit and an atrocious two terms in office. Obama has kicked the stuffing out of bullshit distractions. Have a little backbone.

4. Do you think voters will fall for
all the stupid wedge issues like they did in 2004? It just seems there is so much more at stake this time. Aren't folks tired of that garbage?

6. They very well might.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the voting public at large.
In fact, I wouldn't take anything for granted after 2004.

8. I was so hoping that was
over and done. Not that they won't use them but that voters would think that stuff is more important than the war, economy, etc.

7. The run-up in your scenario is incorrect.
Bush was never polling in the "30s" during the run-up to 2004, it was rare for his approval rating to be under 50%.

Bush led Kerry in the polls for most of the campaign, and really never looked back after the GOP convention, which IMO was one of the best constructed in recent history.

Yes, lots of people, especially here, were very confident and cocky, but their optimism was severely misplaced. If you told them that though, you were dismissed as an idiot.

Bush was always the favorite in 2004, whether we care to believe it or not.

2008 is a different story, but you are right to warn against overconfidence.

supposedly the underdog to Romney, Gulliani(sp?) and Thompson.

Yes, Fred Thompson. I'm series.

McCain is the anointed one, he just had to earn his keep and, finally, the Falwell love fest got him the RW props he needed.

Then, Falwell was beamed up to meet with his best friend Jesus and here we are.

BTW, anyone who thinks "President McCain" is a joke, needs to remember the "You've Got To Be Fucking Kidding Me" Repub presidents we've endured since Nixon.
(props to Bill Maher for that non sequitur)

:kick: and RRRR!

edit, grammar. As usual.

but even without considering Diebold, close to half of the voting public went for Bush.

In a saner nation, Bush would have been lucky to get 30%.
It shouldn't have been anywhere 50%...or close enough to steal.
