TERESA Slams Iraq War

Kerry's Wife Criticizes Iraq War

By LAWRENCE MESSINA, Associated Press Writer

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Teresa Heinz Kerry criticized President Bush on Wednesday, arguing that his push to invade Iraq "exacerbated, out of control, terrorism around the world" while alienating allies.

"The option was to do the job and finish Afghanistan, and then build a coalition to combat terrorism," the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry told relatives of servicemembers.

Heinz Kerry said the focus now should be on ending the fighting and bringing the troops home with honor.

"We don't want them to come back feeling like their effort was in vain," she said. "We don't want them to come back feeling like all they did was 'destroy a country.'"

"Our pursuit of the Iraq war and the way we've carried it out have exacerbated, out of control, terrorism around the world and, certainly, there has been the loss of allies and respect of the world."

***

Nothing groundbreaking here, but it's nice to know that Teresa "gets it" - so does John, in my opinion, even if he isn't as vocal about it all the time, which (in my opinion) has more to do with his style than his convictions.

1. Is this normal?
For the wives of candidates to express strong statements regarding national policy decisions before their spouse gets elected? I just don't recall previous wives jumping right into national policy during an election.

2. Not if you are a Stepford Spouse.
But some of us have no problem with the notion that Democratic candidates' spouses (a) have opinions; (b) express them appropriately; (c) often but not always agree with the views of the candidate.

5. I wish she was the nominee
The women are far better than their men, for example Hadassah Lieberman is much nicer than Joe.

12. Consider the opposite statement and the outrage
"The men are far better than their women."

That would go over like an Iron Butterfly.

10. Teresa speaks her mind
Kerry repeats carefully vetted statements.

This has nothing to do with who I supported or didn't support. It has to do with the genuineness of a person's heart.

11. that's what you say
candidates who actually run for office are usually more careful in what they say than those who don't run for office especially if their goal is to win . and kerry has spoken from the heart on this issue and many others which is one reason he won . he actually has a positive record to back him up also unlike some other people.

15. You've got to be kidding
Teresa speaks her mind. If you'd been following her you'd know that. She's had Kerry's handlers freaked out from the beginning.

16. Kerry and his people know Teresa is an asset
the only ones freaked out about her are those who have problems with women speaking out. nobody from kerry's campaign ever complained about her or told her not to do anything. in fact kerry himself has said many times he likes that she speaks out and wants the country to see her.

18. I like Teresa Heinz Kerry.
I hope she continues to speak out. She will be a great first lady....compared to the little "stand by your man and bake cookies" Laura Bush. Teresa has a mind of her own! Go figure! I'm sure the repubs will be whining about this today. I hope.
