33. Of course not, because you need a sense of humor to realize it's a joke
Because we all know that politicians never speak figuratively. Barack obviously thought that beams of light were going to come shooting across the audience.

Funny how you leave out the first part - about the persuasion bit.

34. It is a joke based upon Clinton's joke about Obama's speeches
Clinton discussed a litany of challenges facing the country, ranging from home foreclosure to responsibly bring troops home from the Iraq war.

“None of the problems we face will be easily solved,” she said before delivering a fanciful description of an Obama speech.

“Now I could stand up here and say, ‘Let’s just get everybody together. Let’s get unified. The sky will open. The lights will come down. Celestial choirs will be singing and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect.’

http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/02/clinton_raps_obamas_celestial.html

I heard him do this joke and it was quite funny. Sorry to disappoint you.

I hate to tell you this, but the candidates make pretty much the same stump speech at a lot of their appearances.

You are being silly. I heard him deliver this joke and there was no doubt to ANYONE who was there that it was anything but a joke.

5. from January lol what did you think his job was convincing them to vote Clinton?
HANOVER, N.H.--Barack Obama may be leading the Democratic presidential pack in every major poll here, but that didn't dissuade the Illinois senator from a final early-morning rally with the Facebook generation.

Clearly not content to leave their votes to the whims of online politicking, the Illinois senator stepped onto a stage fashioned in a Dartmouth College gymnasium, pulled an index card from his inside jacket pocket, and launched into a familiar set of talking points centered on what has become a familiar theme for his campaign: change and hope.

"My job this morning is to be so persuasive...that a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany, and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Barack," he told a crowd of about 300 Ivy Leaguers--and, by the looks of it, a handful of locals who managed to gain access to what was supposed to be a students-only event.

She was trying to make fun of his oratory skills saying that the heavens would open, a beam of light would shine down, etc. I posted the actual Hillary quote and link up thread. I heard him do the same joke at a town hall meeting and I agree it was very funny. The crowd did too.

Obama's speeches are studded with religious rhetoric. For example, last October he told an audience of 4,000 that he hoped to be "an instrument of God" and that "I am confident that we can create a Kingdom right here on Earth".

Americans don't need another POTUS that thinks he is an instrument of God. :puke:
