Kerry 'Flips Off' Vietnam Vet (Ted Samply of Vietnam Vets Agnst. Kerry)
Edited on Mon May-31-04 11:37 PM by MidwestTransplant
I wish Sampley would have taken a swing. The Secret Service would have wrapped his arm around his own neck twice! He's also lucky that when he opened his jacket in that manner the Sec. Service didn't react to a potential threat. This is a NewsMax article so it has an obvious slant but it's hilarious.

Kerry 'Flips Off' Vietnam Vet

Democratic Senator - and certain presidential nominee - John F. Kerry gave the middle finger to a Vietnam veteran at the Vietnam Memorial Wall on Memorial Day morning, NewsMax.com has learned.

Snip

Sampley walked up to Kerry, extended his hand and said, "Senator, I am Ted Sampley, the head of Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry, and I am here to escort you away from the Wall because you do not belong here."

At that point a Secret Service officer told Sampley to back away from Kerry. Sampley moved about six feet away and opened his jacket to reveal a HANOI JOHN tee-shirt.

Kerry then began talking to a group of school children. Sampley then showed the tee-shirt to the children and said, "Kerry does not belong at the Wall because he betrayed the brave soldiers who fought in Vietnam."

Just then Kerry - in front of the school children, other visitors and Secret Service agents - brazenly 'flashed the bird' at Sampley and then yelled out to everyone, "Sampley is a felon!"

Kerry was referring to an incident 12 years ago when Sampley confronted Senator John McCain's cheif aide, Mark Salter, in a Senate stairwell after McCain repeatedly offended POW families at a Senate POW hearing. Sampley,......followed Salter into the stairwell and, when they emerged, Salter had a bloody lip and a broken nose.

Doesn't stalking the senator violate his probation or something? Is there a way we can put this jackass back in prison where he belongs?

3. Yep, it's funny ... but ...
You posted way more than half the article!

The standard at DU is to post four paragraphs and a link. It keeps the Copyright Police away. Don't think that conservative outfits like Newsmax wouldn't love to bring a "theft of intellectual property" case against DU!

So please, prune it down a little more.

Thanks!

5. I'm Sure Kerry Yelled "Sampley is A Felon"
Edited on Mon May-31-04 11:28 PM by DrFunkenstein
First of all, Kerry is incapable of sentences that short. Second of all, this whole piece is moronic. "Garnered huge national attention"? Even if that were true - which it is not - that sounds like it was written by a (not very talented) high school kid.

7. I wish we had a middle finger smilie
so we could support Kerry...if he really did give Sampley the bird.

I don't see Kerry doing that though. He doesn't seem like "flash the bird' kind of guy.

9. Why do I doubt this story?
Perhaps it is the source. But in any case ... this is the one instance in which I would excuse somebody giving the bird in front of my child (she's 7-1/2). I would just have to explain to her that Kerry was standing up to a bad, bad bully. That Sampley is a violent bully at that. But the Right is using him ... to the hilt. But they had better beware - if they alienate him, then they are in possible danger. Lie down with a dog and you're gonna get fleas - and bit.

36. Limbaugh was talking about this today.
I usually can't listen to Limbaugh, but I found this story hilarious. Limbaugh acted so outraged that Kerry flipped this jerk off. I don't believe it happened, myself. But, say it did... Good for Kerry! How dare this jerk come up and tell Kerry he didn't belong at that wall after he fought in and watched his friends die in that war. F'n bastard. And he's going to "escort" Kerry away? What is he a flippen nutcase? And then to walk around in a "Hanoi John" t-shirt? The guy has too much time on his hands, I think and Rush, too. Too much time to talk about it.

Just like that O'Neill idiot who's been a paid Kerry tormenter for decades, I'll bet that Sampley is well paid to be outrageous. And as far as I can tell, nobody is telling this story except for him.

17. Here's a good one.
Broadcast this far and wide, and see if anyone bites.

"George W. Bush flipped the middle finger at thousands of veterans at the World War Two Memorial dedication ceremony."

Didn't tape it or anything, but hey, I could swear I saw him do it when I was watching on my 20 year old RCA set.

19. I Googled "Ted Sampley"....
and although this is a Kerry site, there is good info here on Sampley and his regards for the neo-cons:

http://www.independentsforkerry.org/uploads/media/vvajk.html

There are some 1,280 hits under Google, not many are flattering. The whole "McCain was brainwashed" idiocy is in his bio and he is a pretty shady character. He seems to have pretty good access to photoshopping and is unabashed at being a RW shill.

Nothing about the newest thing at the VN Memorial though, maybe it is too early?....or maybe, not true....

They keep bringing him back to support Bush.

I'd love to hear Sampley explain his devotion to AWOL and his fine, fine record of acievemnents during Vietnam. And Ted, take your time with the details....we have all day to listen.

using the initials "JFK" to refer to John Kerry.
It shows a lack of depth and understanding of history and of the ideals he bequeathed to the Democratic party, and I for one find the practice objectionable.

I honestly can't figure out whether this statement is a knock on Kerry for besmirching Kennedy's memory or a knock on Kennedy for besmirching the image of an emerging figure.

I remember my dad getting all steamed off when the newspaper called Kennedy 'JFK' because he thought it disrespected FDR.

So, it's always something . . .

32. Got a better source?
NewsHax is notorious for making stuff up.

Weren't they the ones who printed a story (with pic) about Hillary Clinton's book found in the Science Fiction section at a Barnes and Noble? Funny thing is, the guy who wrote the story put the book there, took a picture, and wrote an 'article'.

Here's some truth. I was at my local B&N, and I found Michael Savage's book in the bargain 'Fiction' section. And there were multiple copies there! No lie!

Sampley is also responsible for the doctored photo:

That is allowed to seep into the public arena (a la Al Gore's "I created the Internet, or "Protesters spit on Vietnam vets"), until its origins are hazy and it gets repeated as some kind of fact.

The right wing is the undisputed master of making up shit.

It's very, very unlikely (unthinkable, actually) that Kerry flipped the bird in front of children. This is right wing hocus pocus.
