I have it how and why an Obama/Gore ticket could happen.
Edited on Wed Apr-02-08 05:14 PM by mckeown1128
Obama gets a VP that majority of the country would like as president (see 2000) No one has more experience than Al Gore for the white house. This more than balances the ticket for Obama. Obama gets the voter's excited, pulls moderates, centrists and the youth. Al Gore makes it an experienced ticket and draws the party loyalists that might go for McCain if Clinton is beat by "the new guy" in the primary. How could anyone say an Obama/Gore ticket wouldn't be far superior to ANYTHING the republicans offer!

Now I know it would seem weird, awkward, an unlikely that Al Gore would "lower" himself into the VP position again. I honestly would vote for Gore over Obama in the primary if Gore would have run. Many if not most probably would. So, why would Gore do it you might ask?

Global Warming...

I can only see Gore taking the position under one condition: Obama would have to offer Gore complete and total control over White House Energy and Environment policy. Gore would then be able to fight global warming with his full attention.. without any of the distractions that come from being president. (God, knows VP is usually the most useless position in government) Gore would be able to push through the dramatic changes needed to save the planet.

On top of this... Gore would be able to run for president in 2016 at the age of 68... which while old is not in McCain territory.

Imagine the great things that can be done with an Obama/Gore ticket!!!

1. It's an idiotic idea. Why would Gore, who won the presidency in 2000, play second fiddle to
a first term Senator who has absolutely ZERO international experience?

It's not weird, or awkward.

It's a stupid speculation.

11. If Gore wanted to fight global warming in that vein he would've run for President.
What a ludicrous idea.

2. I really just think Gore wants nothing to do with politics ever again
If he wanted complete control over global warming in the context of Washington politics, he himself could have thrown his hat in the ring and by all accounts would have won the primary contests.

Since he eschewed that option I'm going to have to assume that he wants nothing to do with the whole business in the slightest. Can't say I blame him either.

3. Hillary supporters hate this idea because they want "experience" at the top.
Gore supporters...well it's pretty obvious why they would hate this.

5. Won't happen. Gore has found his calling and purpose in life.
VP--he has been there, done that. I don't see him allowing his life's work on global warming to be shackled to any political position. People should try and deal with reality rather than fantasize about Gore being at the top or the bottom of the ticket. Obama or Clinton deserve the nomination since they have campaigned and worked for it and hundreds of thousands of people have voted for one or the other. We have many people who would make excellent VP choices and who would want the chance without having to be coerced or having their arms twisted.

8. VP is a part time job. He could still have time for his global warming campaign.

12. As a Gore supporter, I'd have to say I'd be for this
In addition to the reasons you cited, there's this. Gore has said he hates campaigning and the poison that politics has become. But he didn't hate being a public servant because he was incomparable at that. I think he'd consider it if he had the ability to tackle the problems with the added leverage that an Obama administration would offer. I think he loves the earth and this country enough that that would weigh more with him than his ego. I also remember him saying that political will was a renewable resource. Think of how Obama has added all sorts of new muscle to that particular resource, political will. As a team, they'd be unbeatable. There's no one the Republicans could put up against them who'd have a snowball's chance. The Dems NEED to win this fall for the sake of our country and the sake of our earth. And that would weigh heavily with Gore, I think.

14. An Gore/Obama would be my dream ticket...
With Richardson as Secy of State, Biden as Secy of Def., Edwards as ATNY GEN., and Bill CLinton as Abassador to the UN. It makes me tingly inside.

15. You're deluding yourself!
It. Won't. Happen.

Contrary to popular belief in Obamaland, the whole world does not kneel at the Altar of O. Gore will NEVER do it. If he'd wanted it, he could have had the Presidency.

Get over it.

17. I don't know.........
I think Gore would rather stay out of it. If Obama loses, Gore will probably run in 2012. Otherwise, I think he's already said he is not interested in being anyone's VP.
