Obama: I'd hire Gore

WALLINGFORD, Pa. - Sen. Barack Obama said Wednesday he would give Al Gore, a Nobel prize winner, a major role in an Obama administration to address the problem of global warming.

At a town-hall meeting, Obama was asked if he would tap the former vice president for his Cabinet to handle global warming.

"I would," Obama said. "Not only will I, but I will make a commitment that Al Gore will be at the table and play a central part in us figuring out how we solve this problem. He's somebody I talk to on a regular basis. I'm already consulting with him in terms of these issues, but climate change is real. It is something we have to deal with now, not 10 years from now, not 20 years from now."

1. Excellent. I was hoping he would do exactly this.
I hate the term "czar", but Gore needs to be made the Environment Czar in the new administration.

3. Agree!
My hope (probably unrealistic) is that the next Prez appoints Gore The Environment Guy, or whatever, and pretty much gives him free rein, LISTENS to and ACTS on his input.

My only concern with Gore being any part of anyone's administration, is just that -- that he'd be part of an administration and somewhat curtailed.

I'm an Obama supporter, but I'm thinking, if he's consulting with Gore now, is this the best he can put forward for his environmental platform? To be fair, nobody could do enough in my book. :7

5. I wish he did more on Apple's board of directors before people got on Apple's case...
Particularly Greenpeace, and it seems Apple got its rear in gear thanks to that organization and the response of their customers, and not anybody on Apple's board of directors.

More on Apple's history of non-doing

Might be why Al isn't running either?

Flame away, but I'd rather see more that shows he's genuine, and not just "carbon credits", which seem to be no different than "credit cards".
