Terrorist attack threat this summer going to help the Chimp?
So would a deadly bio-attack help our poor (p)Resident's poll numbers this summer?

Let's just say we've been warned. Based on how Bush dropped the ball with 911, it might be a good idea for the Kerry campaign to use this threat as a way to say that we need someone in power who takes these warnings seriously.

Do an ad about how the August 1 Presidential memo was basically ignored by the Chimp. Then have him reading to the class WHILE the Twin Towers were burning.

Who would you rather have in charge?

Snip:

"U.S. officials have obtained new intelligence deemed highly credible indicating al-Qaida or other terrorists are in the United States and preparing to launch a major attack this summer, The Associated Press has learned.

The intelligence does not include a time, place or method of attack but is among the most disturbing received by the government since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, according to a senior federal counterterrorism official who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Tuesday.

Of most concern, the official said, is that terrorists may possess and use a chemical, biological or radiological weapon that could cause much more damage and casualties than a conventional bomb.

"There is clearly a steady drumbeat of information that they are going to attack and hit us hard," said the official, who described the intelligence as highly credible."

1. No, it wouldn't help W.
If we get attacked again on his watch, then how can he claim that he is so strong on terror? Wouldn't that mean that he hasn't kept us safe? I don't think it would help him at all. The most horrifying thought I have about this, though, is that it just might give him an excuse to declare martial law.

2. Fear of an attack will help him. An actual attack though? Only if he can
use it as an excuse to drop bombs on somebody (which has worked twice for him...but will people get, um, "fooled again"?).

7. Well, personally, I think its a lose-lose for *
I believe a lot of people are tired of those alerts; and, if we actually have a terrorist attack, he will be blamed for two.

9. Not even
An attack would cement the half-formed image in the public mind of Bush as an inept bungler. If it was on a significant scale, he wouldn't clear 30% in the election.

And if you think martial law is going to help him, think again: http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/051404A.shtml.

10. It didn't help the Aznar government in Spain!
The Spanish people rejected the rightwing Aznar government and voted for the peace candidate, the socialist Zapatero.
