Caught my nephew smoking a joint on the side of the garage with a buddy. He used Obama as a defense.

Yes, Obama used some drugs. Yes, he turned out fine. But that doesn't mean it was a good idea, it just means it didn't have a permanent harmful effect on him. He explains in detail what he was thinking, and why he decided to stop. Somebody who has a mature understanding of why they don't want drugs taking over their life will be much more able to resist the temptation than somebody who has been told to just-say-no.

The notion that because one person turned out ok it's always ok is logically incorrect. Obama's experience disproves the just-say-no argument that all people who use drugs will fail because of it. But the real argument against using is that some people will fail because of it. You can't disprove that even by finding a tee-totaler who fails in life. An easy argument against drugs for now is that the country has draconian laws against it, so just getting caught and becoming a felon could ruin your life.

Don't freak. Be factual and mature and encourage your nephew to be factual and mature. Good luck!
