Is McCain too old to be President?
He will be turning 71 this August. Is he too old? Should age be an issue?

7. I would agree with that, people age at different rates
McCain has lived a hard life. Between his heavy partying and sleeping around and his time as a POW, his body has taken a beating and it shows. He is not the healthiest or fittest 71 year old, I have seen.

He's frail.. he looks it, and that damned sing-song speaking pattern makes me want to stuff poisonous spiders in my ears.

Just the thought of listening to him for 4 years makes me ill.. and that stoooooopid "myfrennnzzzzz"...

9. McCain didn't start out very mentally sharp.
And most people agree that mental ability dulls with age. So.... yes.

10. That's why he trots his mom out to campaign events.
He implies, "Look at Mom, she's still going strong at 110 ... it runs in the family."

12. Yes and yes.
We know that we have to hold those family discussions, the ones where we try to figure out how to tell Dad he just can't drive any more. It's heartbreaking. We are mortal and we start to fail as we age. Of course age should be an issue. It should be THE issue. And some who are planning to vote for McCain will be scrutinizing his choice for Vice President very carefully.

19. no.
Some voters might think so, some will disagree. Making an issue of his age may actually remind people that at 71 he would only be two years older than Reagan was when he was elected and, while I have no use for Reagan, he remains a very popular figure.

In the end, his age isn't the issue -- its his policy positions.

21. Reagan also suffered Alzhiemers while in office
Granted it was covered up, but it was a serious problem. It's the sort of problem that comes with electing people over 70.

24. Yeah he did, it will be interesting if the Dems can figure
out how to bring that story out of moth balls. If the tables were turned, I am sure the right wing propaganda machine would have all sorts of talk about the president who was unfit to serve, due to an age (usuallY) related illness.

20. No, he's too Republican to be president.
No need to get ageist about it. The issue is not years of age, rather the health of the individual.

22. "Ageist" if age has nothing to do with one's ability to do a job
Why are there manditory retirement ages? Still I agree it's an issue of health, more than anything. McCains hard partying ways and his years as a POW have all taken a significant toll on his body. I am not sure he is healthy enough to do the job.

25. Yes, he is too old.
IMO, everyone needs to take a very long hard look at whomever is the VP candidate because with McCain it is, IMO, not only his age, but also the fact that he had had some very serious medical conditions.

30. It's not his AGE...it's his total lack of comprehension of what has gone on in the
last seven years. Like Hillary he seems caught in a "Time Warp" where he doesn't realize that the Mainstream Media doesn't CONTROL IT ALL, anymore and that there's "Instant Fact Check" for every word or sentence that comes out of a Candidates Mouth...and it has LEGS!

It's not that he's "old" but that he "hasn't kept up" with the way the world has changed. But...I have to admit that I do worry he has "senile dementia." And, if he doesn't then our hapless Dems might try to do an ad or two about that. But, I wouldn't hold my breath knowing how our Dems just hate to hurt folks feelings about Politics. :eyes:
