Kerry - "charismatic campaigner"
Maybe somebody needs to remind the pundits of what they were saying in 2000.

"Gore confidants say Kerry is an equally strong choice . Massachusetts usually backs a Democratic ticket. Kerry, a decorated Vietnam veteran, is a charismatic campaigner who could boost the appeal elsewhere."

1. reports from iowa and new hampshire and elsewhere
i remember during the primary campaigning before any of the votes were cast. the nice thing about the internet is you can get personal information from just about anyone , anywhere. and people in iowa would write up about the campaign and candidates. i had a good feeling about iowa (even though kerry was low in the polls) when i read these reports. those who saw and especially met him had great things to say about him. they got their friends and family to attend other events and the crowds got bigger through this positive word of mouth. and iowa is where most of the personal contact takes place. where almost anyone who wants to has met with all of the candidates more than once and talked to them personally.

i remember when dean got the tom harkin endorsement andmany thought it was over for kerry. but i read about some events that took place after. one was with dean, gore and harkin, the other with john kerry. and reports said kerry got a far higher turnout at his event.

8. yeah, polls showed him down but
in iowa where the campaign was taking place and people actually were paying attention much more. the polls on personal appeal had Kerry rising. this meant while people had not decided to support him, they were starting to like him or already liked him. this was important in terms of getting support later on when people actually have to make their final decisions on who they will vote for.

2. Kerry is very good, it's the media that portray him with the fictional
negative image. Its the Whore Media. It does not matter who the dem is, they, the media will do everything they can to crush that person. * is still their man.

3. Interesting article in retrospect.
Two things strike me... Lieberman is not mentioned, nor is anything about Gore distancing himself from Clinton. Second, Bob Graham was the other choice. Grr...

4. yup, many thought it would be Kerry
and maybe bob graham. kerry was not picked because of his relationships with different women since gore wanted to run on the morals thing. and bob graham was not picked partly for that thing he does of writing down everything he does everyday. but many thought it would be one of them. even when it was known that joe lieberman was on the short list many didn't really talk of him as to be likely picked. only when he was picked did people start to know about the inside details of the process and why lieberman was picked.

5. Does anyone know why Gore didn't pick Graham?
The only reason why he chose Lieberman was because Holy Joe attacked Clinton during impeachment. Other than that, he was a terrible pick, and helped legitimize Nader.

6. because of something Graham does that people think is odd
bob graham for decades has done something that many think is odd and may be a "mental" problem. and that's his writing down every single thing he does every day. it doesn't seem a big deal to me but i guess him writing down little details like everything he ate weirds some people out.

9. I was researching
I was trying to find out more about the 2000 process to see if I could make any connections to this year's VP choice. I only found one article so far that had Lieberman in it. Interesting, huh? I do remember hearing a couple of references to Lieberman back then, but not enough to think he'd really be the choice. But he was, the morals and family values thing. The theme, "Let America be America Again", rings Clark or Edwards to me. I don't see many other candidates fitting in with that the way they do.

11. Yup, Gore was looking for charisma in a VP.
Which explains his choice of Lieberman, who just brings down the house.

14. Again, have you seen him speak in person?
I found him charismatic the times I saw him. I also noticed in primary coverage when reporters talked to voters, he was referred to many times as "charismatic" by these voters.

He does not come off as well on TV as he does in person (he is working on it), nor does he come off on TV as bad as the pundits claim.
