Ground Game Notes Obama Campaign from Chester Co. PA!

OKAY kids, Mom is on the Obama team, had a training session yesterday for volunteers in Chester County, six regions. Mom said that were more whites than African-Americans, a sprinkling of Hispanics, older people outnumbered young people, more white haired seniors. But high school kids, young college kids too. Great mix of people.

She said people were extremely committed to Obama, they asked everyone to get up and introduce themselves and tell why you support Obama. Focus is on LISTENING. What are their issues, etc. No badmouthing any other candidates, stay above the fray, only try to persuade those on the fence.

Of course you all know Barack is coming to West Chester University on Weds. 4/2, mom is going to try to get a ticket and will take her camera, IF she gets a ticket to get in, they are very limited. :(

I am of redneck stock in the South, and I mean no offense, just referring to the people on the tv who say PA is liberal-liberal separated by Alabama.

semi-suburban type development, I think this qualifies

I know at least 15 people voting for him in the primary, and one we are working on. ;) (friend's husband, the wife switched from Hillary, she is 60s, white, that crucial demo)

12. It's true about the "Alabama in the middle"

And you can hear it in some of the comments by voters, if you read on the NY Times web site for example. One guy said he's not voting for Obama because "his middle name is Hussein, case closed". Others cite Reverend Wright.
It's blue collar, some poverty, predominantly white, and plenty of xenophobia.
I live in PA but in the "liberal" east, in the Philly suburbs. Some pundits say the PA primary will turn on what happens in our area. From what I've seen (signs, bumper stickers). it's pretty evenly split Obama/clinton, but most of the people I've known from prior campaigns (e.g., Kerry Edwards), are very excited about Obama and working on his campaign. So, the polls say one thing, but I don't know how accurate they are.

4. Once an Obama supporter knows

his history and policies..there's really no choice in this political atmosphere to become "extremly committed" to him.

There was an Italian bread man in our co-op on Friday and I asked him how to say "Ciabatta".. and he said "ciabattamama"..I said "Obamamama"!

He said, "why not?"! :) Me.."oh Good, we're on the same page here!"

I hope mom gets into WCU on Weds for Hairball/Obama gig. She is an adult student. It all hinges on her getting out of work today to try to get a ticket. I bet kids camped out overnight to get the limited tickets that go up for grabs today at noon (EST)!!

You guys can't imagine how inspiring it is to hear these stories out of PA. That massive rally at Penn State, and your upcoming event tells me that Obama may not win the state, but it's not going to be the blowout the Clinton camp had hoped for.
