7. Somebody remind me...
Was TX originally believed to be a Hillary or an Obama State?

And, after the Texas Two Step (which I thought was the end of it :7), who "won"?

12. Supposedly it was a Hillary state, but in the run-up to the primary
it looked like HE would win.. Right about that time is when Rush started his lilttle campaign, and HRC ended up winning with surprising numbers of republicans supporting her..:eyes:

Regardless of who "won", he came out of it with more delegates..

so what the hell is going on today? If the delegates have been awarded...

Could the states make it any more confusing for the people? :eyes:

EDIT to add - it's all confusing to ME, anyway. And to my niece in WA State where she thought her vote counted, but it didn't unless she caucused.

primary (most delegates)
prima-caucus ..same day but open only to people who voted in primary..(a few more delegates)
and the ones awarded today are to another convention *Texas...in June :eyes:

19. update
Collin County is holding its county convention tomorrow, Sunday, the 30th; ALL other counties & districts are today

Update 1, 1:11 p.m. CDT: FIRST NUMBERS IN! Burnt Orange Report is reporting that, with 1.06% of conventions reporting, Obama leads 25 state delegates to 23, or 52.08% to 47.92%.

Note that, though it's true that 1.06% (3 of 284) of the conventions have reported in, the 48 state delegates recorded at present constitute only 0.63% of the vote--that is, 0.63% of the 7,649 delegates who will be representing Texas Democrats at the state convention.

If she really did win that big in that county, I guess we shouldn't be surprised that Obama delegates couldn't reach viability.

31. Look at this...
In Ector County, where the precint caucus results were C 55, O 45, Clinton has picked up 10 delegates to 5 for Obama.

I don't get how a 55-45 split gets a 10-5 delegate split.

Was there a FINAL Texas delegate number that combined the results of the
Texas primary and the Texas caucus?

They tried to put out in the media the running tally but then I think it kinda got overwhelming so they just said it would have to wait til March 29th. Think the highest "percent reporting" stat I saw was around 40% with Obama in the lead.

41. I think these are the old numbers from election day.
They look awfully similar to the ones posted at DKOS.

And this is at the top:

The Texas Democratic Party is no longer updating the unofficial results from the precinct conventions. We are now shifting our efforts to collecting the official results from the precinct conventions to make sure they are available at Senatorial District/County Conventions on March 29, where delegates will be elected to the State Convention. Ultimately, those state conventions delegates will determine the allocation of 67 national delegates.

Gromer Jeffers Jr. E-mail News tips

Exra police were sent to the second floor of Hulcy Middle School, where delegate credentials are being verified.

Potential delegates have stood in line since early morning. Tempers are beginning to explode.

The credentials committee is meeting on the first floor of the middle school. The verification process is going down on the second floor. The process could take a few more hours and the convention won't start in earnest until all of the delegates have been seated. Thousands of people are waiting for verification.

No arrests have been made.

42. Look at the heavily populated counties...
I'm not very versed on Texas demographic, but if you look at some of the more
populated areas, Obama has done well.

Tarrant County--- (6851 delegates)
--Obama 60%
--Clinton 39%

Travis County---(6780 delegates)
--Obama 66%
--Clinton 33%

Clinton seems to do well in the rural areas, and Obama in the urban areas.

46. Okay, I'm a bit confused about their reporting system.
Apparently anyone who might have the lists could simply go online to Burnt Orange, claim to be an appropriate delegate and put in whatever you want. I think that this system leaves me with no confidence in this live reporting system. Please tell me that there will be some other official report that assures the accuracy of the caucuses.

61. Collin County - Obama country - meets TOMORROW
We had a good problem. Because SO MANY DEMOCRATS voted in the primary, we could not find a venue large enough to accommodate the 3,000 plus to attend. So, we had to have our county caucus/convention tomorrow. So, just know, it is a big county, with A LOT of delegates and the entire county went for Obama in the primary by about 10 points. Those will be delegates added ON TOP of those determined today.

Mass Confusion at Fort Worth Convention
March 29th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Things aren’t exactly running smoothly at today’s convention for Democratic delegates in Tarrant County’s Senate District 10.

The convention is being held in the rodeo arena at the Will Rogers Coliseum in downtown Fort Worth. Nearly 4,000 Democrats have piled into the stands rimming the dirt rodeo floor. The setting seems rather appropriate: party officials and convention volunteers — in bopping around trying to deal with a dizzying number of problems — remind one of bull riders holding on for dear life.

The convention — the second in a three-step process to select the remaining 67 delegates in the Democratic Party presidential primary-caucus hybrid — was supposed to begin at 9:30 this morning. As of 1:30, the actual convention still hadn’t started, and frustrated delegates were wedged into a narrow hallway still trying to sign in.

The breakdowns are almost too numerous to list. The first major issue was limited parking. The Will Rogers complex is also hosting a horse show and a gun show today. So Democratic delegates in Volvos with Hillary and Obama bumper stickers had to compete for parking spaces with heavy duty pickups with gun racks.

Once inside, delegates waited all morning listening to time-killing speeches while the credentials committee tried to sort through the various logistical messes and some of the delegate challenges. As we reported yesterday, Tarrant County party officials have been struggling with their delegate list all week. Senate District 10 has hundreds of delegates more than it should. The challenge was compiling an accurate list of delegates. There seems to have been major confusion about whether local officials or the state party would create the delegate list used to check people when they sign in.

County Party Chair Art Brender said the list he got from the state party was unusable — it mistakenly listed many Clinton supporters for Obama and vice-versa. After that list was tossed, local officials have been organizing on the fly. The results have been predictable: delegates unable to sign in because their names aren’t on the list or their paperwork is missing, and, for some precincts, sign-in lists disappeared and had to be redone.

In the arena’s front hallway, delegates crowded together, waiting to sign in at make-shift tables. No one seemed to know what was going on.

By mid-morning, hours after the convention was supposed to start, Brender sat at a table in the frenetic, cacophonous hallway discussing the problems, hoping the sign in would begin soon. Before he could explain to the Observer what was happening, he was told that some tables had started signing in delegates from certain precincts prematurely (and without convention credentials to hand out) and wouldn’t stop when asked. “OK,” Brender sighed and was off to deal wit that issue. Brender is retiring as county party chair in two months. On this day, that probably can’t come soon enough.

The palpable excitement among delegates this morning at the sight of such a large gathering of Democrats — perhaps the biggest in Tarrant County in decades — was soon replaced by growing anger and frustration.

In a back room on the arena’s second floor, the credentials committee members (all volunteers) dashed around, stacks of paper in hand, trying to answer questions from many first-time delegates and solve one mini-problem after another. Eventually, a make-shift table was set up in the hall outside the credential committee room to catalog complaints and challenges. Delegates soon crowded the hall and pressed against the table.

The biggest challenge was generating an accurate list of delegates so each precinct could sign in. The sign-in is the most important aspect of the convention because the percentages of Obama and Clinton supporters who sign in will determine the number of delegates each candidate sends to the state convention in June (the third and final step in the process).

The sign in finally began at 11:30 and is expected to continue for hours. Meanwhile, party leaders and elected officials pleaded with delegates not to leave. By mid-afternoon, it appeared that many were sticking it out.

Ain’t democracy grand?

“This is embarrassing,” said one frustrated Obama delegate. “This is embarrassing for Tarrant County.”

which is just fine because it will mean, in terms of delegates, he will have won Texas.
