Note to Reader: forgive me for posting another "McCain for VP" story. What I found most interesting was Crawford's actual handicapping of the field of potential picks. I also included the 'graph that mentions McCain has to file for his Senate re-election bid by June 9.
So the good news is that this media created phenomenon will die a natural death very soon.
Interesting read.

Deepening problems in Iraq could provide ample justification for McCain to reverse himself and sign on to the Kerry ticket -- and to explain away his current assertions that he is not even considering this extraordinary idea. But the clock is ticking: McCain is up for re-election to a fourth term this year, and the filing deadline is June 9.
Still, the odds are improving for a historic bipartisan fusion ticket in the latest installment of the Trail Mix Handicapper, Veepstakes edition.
Sen. John Edwards, N.C.
Odds: 5-1 (Chance for the ticket: 17 percent)
Buzz: Now campaigning for the No. 2 spot as earnestly as he ran for the No. 1 spot. Geography: Understands how to pitch economic populism to rural voters in the South and beyond. Chemistry: He and his former rival are warming up to one another after some harsh words in those last primary debates.
Rep. Richard A. Gephardt, Mo.
Odds: 6-1 (Chance for the ticket: 14 percent)

Sen. John McCain, Ariz.
Odds: 7-1 (Chance for the ticket: 12 percent)

Gov. Tom Vilsack, Iowa

Retired Army Gen. Wesley K. Clark
Odds: 9-1 (Chance for the ticket: 10 percent)
Buzz: Iraq debacle earns the former supreme allied commander another look. Geography: His home state of Arkansas is in play. Chemistry: Hard to imagine them slamming back shots at the local pub.
