Politico: Obamas Prospered as His Career Soared
http://www.kdbc.com/Global/story.asp?S=8072896&nav=menu608_2_6

By Kenneth P. Vogel

Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, pulled in $3.9 million from 2000 through 2006, according to tax returns posted Tuesday on his presidential campaign's website.

They gave $148,000 to charity in that span, including $27,500 to Trinity United Church of Christ when the polarizing Rev. Jeremiah Wright was leading the congregation.

Curiously, the Obamas checked the box to set aside $3 for the presidential public financing system on their taxes between 2000 through 2004, but they did not do so in 2005 or 2006. Barack Obama, who has positioned himself as a champion for reducing the role of money in politics, has been criticized for backing away from his commitment to participate in the program as a presidential candidate.

The seven years of returns offer some tantalizing details about Obama, an Illinois senator who is leading New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

But the tax filing dump was intended primarily to highlight Obama's commitment to transparency and to pressure Clinton on the issue, a key point of contention between the two Democrats.

Last week, Clinton's office schedules from her time as first lady were released. But she has yet to release her tax returns from her post-White House years, and the Obama campaign used the occasion of its own tax filing dump to accuse her of "dragging her feet."

FULL story at link.

I only posted this so we would know what the hell others are spining. We can talk about this like adults I hope.

1. No problem! Seems Obamas started making money via book sales & then began donating more to charity
Michelle has spoken on the stump about Education debt. Both she and Obama must've been paying stuff off for quite a while.

3. Not true
McCain doesn't count his wife's money for the purposes of this campaign. He's a regular Joe Senator.

5. Isn't McCain still counting his take from the Keating scandal?

4. I thought that it was the American Dream to be successful.
While making millions isn't my life's goal, I think you are going to have trouble selling Obama's successful career as a character flaw.

He didn't come from a wealthy or privileged family. He didn't inherit his money, as far as I know. What's the problem?

And picking on someone because they didn't donate three bucks on their tax returns in 2005 and 2006 is just....silly.

6. Does the charity figure include the tainted Rezko money?
That will surely rise over the next few months.

9. You mean the non-existent bullshit that you can't prove to save your life?
No, it doesn't. The IRS typically doesn't deal with non-issues.

"That will surely rise over the next few months."

LOL! You're so desperate, the best you can do is hope for a change in the Rezko trial, which doesn't involve Obama at all.

10. Excuse me, but Obama's net worth is shockingly LOW compared to the other
people in the race.

I couldn't even believe how low his net worth was when I saw it posted here.
