For the first time in god knows how long, I want to say, "Thank you Senator Clinton"
Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 07:20 PM by sniffa
I just saw on Countdown, that she told her supporters (paraphrasing), "Don't vote for John McCain. Senator Obama and myself are better than McCain. Don't do this."

I'm sure my paraphrase is off, but still... THANK YOU SENATOR CLINTON. :patriot:

edit: someone already has the transcript up.

"Please think through this decision. It is not a wise decision for yourself or your country," Clinton said. "There are, in my view, significant differences between Sen. Obama and myself, but those differences pale to the differences between us and Sen. McCain. I intend to do everything I can to make sure we have a unified Democratic party.

"When this contest is over and we have a nominee, we're going to close ranks, we're going to be united, and I have no doubt about that, because the most important goal is for us to put a Democrat back into the White House next January,"

...again before long ~ so it amounts to doublespeak.

Rep. DeFazio Asks Dem Candidates To Fire on McCain
Jon Ponder | Mar. 27, 2008

An open letter to the Democratic candidates from Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore.:
You both claim to be better suited than the other to take on the so-called Straight-Talk Express, so prove it. Run the next six weeks of your campaign against McCain, not against the other Democrat. Go after McCain for his policy positions, not the other Democrat for theirs.

Dear Senator Clinton and Senator Obama:

I write today as a concerned member of the Democratic Party and an uncommitted super delegate. I appreciated the manner in which you both conducted your campaigns during the early primary process. It was a manner that respected the other and tried to highlight policy differences without resorting to destructive smear campaigns. In the lead up to the March 4th primaries, the tone of both campaigns shifted and the civility that I had appreciated disappeared. The long term goal of beating the Republican nominee took a back seat to the short term goal of proving one’s viability by tearing down the other Democratic candidate. We lost sight of the general election, we lost sight of the true opponent and if we continue to be shortsighted, I fear we will lose in November.

The heated rhetoric between both campaigns has continued to intensify as we head into the Pennsylvania primary. While you trade barbs, McCain is uniting the Republican Party around his thinly disguised rightwing agenda. In the next six weeks, McCain can sit back, amass his war chest, concentrate his base and delight as you deconstruct each other.

I propose that you not allow him that luxury. You both claim to be better suited than the other to take on the so-called Straight-Talk Express, so prove it. Run the next six weeks of your campaign against McCain, not against the other Democrat. Go after McCain for his policy positions, not the other Democrat for theirs. Allow the Democratic voters to believe in a campaign that can provide a new direction for this country and stop McCain from continuing the failed policies of the Bush Administration. In the end, it is the candidate who can take the fight to McCain and win that deserves my support and, most importantly, the support of the Democratic Party.

Both of your campaigns have been built on the fundamental idea that if elected, you will bring about change. Let’s change the way we are doing business in this primary election. In the last few months, you have been running for the Democratic nomination. In the next six weeks, I urge you start running for President.

Sincerely,

PETER A. DEFAZIO

23. Rachel Maddow played a clip of Sen Obama
on her show today in which he repeatedly attacked McCain. It made Rachel VERY happy.

I'm happy to hear that Sen Clinton is getting the hint that her party destroying tactics aren't winning her friends among the SDs.

12. This is good, but I'm skeptical of her altruism
She could have read the polls that show her "kitchen sink" strategy backfiring badly.

She could have been "talked to" by party leaders and threatened with an embarrassing rebuke rather than a graceful defeat if she kept it up.

There are too many self-serving reasons why she would change her tune, but in the final analysis, I'm glad she has.

I heard someone (Andrea Mitchell maybe) say that she is going to have to work hard just to get people to like her again. That doesn't bode well for someone trailing so badly.

13. I think she just figured out something--namely,
that the light at the end of the tunnel is the headlight of the oncoming Obama Express.

I think the (perhaps mostly mythical) Party Leadership has gotten to her & told her she'd better start making nice and putting bandaids on the wounds she inflicted for a while before retiring from the race.

Good on ya Hillary!

I think it's fine if this goes to the convention as long as they stop fighting and turn their shots to McCain. If they tag team his ass, they can seriously cripple him for the general election. Imagine the amount of money they could each spend hurling shots at the old fuck for months. The Democratic voters have pretty much made up their minds one way or another (whether it be Hillary or Barack) so just let them vote and stay away from personal attacks between each other.
