Lanny Davis: I support McCain-Clinton Ticket
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 11:56 PM by grantcart
Lanny Davis

Quote
There are any number of provocative possibilities for a bipartisan ticket in 2008. Imagine the buzz if Republican John McCain and Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton committed to making the other vice president in the event that either won the election...

Any of these bipartisan pairings, in any permutation, would create a stir -- and a dynamite ticket..

But I'm betting that such a third ticket won't be necessary, because either Democrats or Republicans -- or both -- will nominate a bipartisan ticket in 2008 or commit to a bipartisan presidency after the election. And I'll wager that if only one of the parties does it, that party will win. . .

As the presidential election year nears, one candidate, a shoo-in for his party's nomination, has an obvious choice for running mate. Yet he also senses the uniqueness of the moment. So he makes a risky decision: He asks a leader of the opposition to run for vice president alongside him, forming the first bipartisan presidential ticket in U.S. history.. .

Today's national unease and rabid partisanship -- so similar to the circumstances of 1864 -- raise the challenge for someone to form a bipartisan ticket in 2008. The lingering trauma of 9/11, the war in Iraq and the fight against terrorism call for an administration open to bipartisan solutions to the crises that confront the country.

This mainstay of Clinton surrogates is such an antagonistic person on the TV spoon feeding political spin that has the most twisted and corrupt logic that I finally said to myself what is this guy all about.

Here is what I found out:

1) He ran for Congress and lost an election he should have won when he misrepresented his college resume (sound familiar?)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanny_Davis
In 1976, Davis ran for Congress as a Democrat in Maryland's 8th congressional district. After winning the Democratic nomination, he was in a close contest with Republican Newton Steers before losing after a minor scandal broke out over Davis mis characterizing his record at Yale Law School.

2) He spent 2006 as the attack dog for the traitor Sen. Liberman
http://www.opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110008763

Moreover, the support he (Lamont)gets from these haters (democratic bloggers) should not be attributed to Mr. Lamont--nor should he be blamed for their extremism, bigotry and intolerance. But he ought to denounce them. He hasn't as yet.

Mr. Lamont and all other liberal Democrats should remember the McCarthy era and not fall into the trap of the hypocrisy of the double standard--that it's not OK when Ann Coulter dispenses her venomous hatred, but it is OK when our side's versions of Ann Coulter do.

3) And then last year he was championing the party that would go bi-partisan - nominate a president from one party and a vice president from the other - is it foreshadowing what the Clinton campaign has in mind if they lose the nomination?

James Carville calling Governor Richardson a Judas.

Lanny Davis advocating McCain-Clinton ticket.

Senator Clinton talks about not choosing your relatives but you pick your pastor. Senator Clinton you choose your surrogates, and they become your voice in the cable networks.

The time has come for Clinton supporters to consider if they really do want to keep company with these folks.

Until I saw the article quoted at the top of the OP I thought the threads talking about McCain-Clinton Ticket were hysterical

- turns out I was just behind in my reading.

1. That article is from January of 2007.
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 11:33 PM by maximusveritas
And he also mentions an Obama-Hagel ticket. So it may still be stupid, but it's not quite as bad as you make it sound. He's not still advocating such bipartisan tickets as far as I know.

3. That is absolutely correct
I don't think it takes away from the larger point.

He is on record supporting such a ticket.

It would be worthwhile to have him commit on the record whether or not he still supports it.

In any case I find him repulsive. I am glad that people like him and Carville are not on the campaign that I support.

7. Lanny would never float the idea without the consent of Hillary
He is a total insider.

This is a way to lose to Obama and still win. She would have to wait for 8 years if Obama wins, only 4 with the aging mccain, maybe less with health problems.

12. I edited it to include the original date of the article

His support of such a ticket predates the Clinton campaign by a few months

16. thanks
but the fact that a Clinton insider posted an article like that, even a year ago really makes me wonder.
A fail-safe method to insure that she becomes President. When this concept is combined with the free pass that Hillary is giving McCain while praising him and attacking Obama it makes me wonder.

It would have been more astonishing as a current article though.

I suspect that he would be delighted to get back in the White House working for Vice President Clinton. I doubt he is too choosy.

2. Oh. Hell. No.
Lanny Davis has officially gone off the deep end.

I suppose the one glimmer in that ticket would be if McCain had to resign on let's say Day 2. Other than that, I can see nothing of value in such a pairing.

20. Oh wow, some idiot has a batshit crazy idea involving a Clinton it must be their fault.
:eyes:

Yes I know the Axiom of Clinton:

B(n)-->H(f)

Let me translate for you: Let n stand for "things happening", and let B stand for "really bad", using the fault function (f) the base is always Hillary Clinton. Ergo, whenever something bad happens it's Hillary Clinton's fault.

21. I guess this shouldn't surprise anyone, here's his wiki info... Apparently he ISN'T a Democrat
As an undergraduate at Yale, he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. According to an item in U.S. News & World Report, as part of his initiation into the fraternity, Davis underwent hazing by, among others, the future U.S. president George W. Bush. Davis went on to graduate from Yale Law School in 1970. It was there that he first met and befriended Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In 1976, Davis ran for Congress as a Democrat in Maryland's 8th congressional district. After winning the Democratic nomination, he was in a close contest with Republican Newton Steers before losing after a minor scandal broke out over Davis mischaracterizing his record at Yale Law School.

In 2005, President Bush appointed Davis to serve as the only Democrat on the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board.

Attorney
Davis started his legal career as an associate at Patton Boggs in 1975 and became a partner in 1978.

He served as special counsel to the President from 1996 to 1998, during which time he also was the spokesman for Clinton in issues regarding campaign finance investigations and other legal issues.

After leaving the White House, Davis returned to Patton Boggs. As part of his work there, he worked as a lobbyist for the nation of Pakistan prior to the attacks of September 11, 2001.

In 2003, Davis became a partner in Washington, D.C. office of the law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. There, he provides counseling to corporations and government contractors on crisis management.

In 2006, through opinions expressed in the Wall Street Journal (August 8, 2006) and on Fox News, Davis strongly supported longtime friend Joseph Lieberman in his losing bid against Ned Lamont for the Democratic Party nomination for the post of U.S. senator from Connecticut. He then continued to support Lieberman when he ran and won the General Election as an Independent. In 2008, Davis has similarly supported Hillary Clinton in her race for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.

How could such a ticket possibly work? What would be the platform on issues, when two people are so diametrically opposed to each other?

Makes NO sense.
