Catholics Against Kerry Web Site.
Has anybody seen this web site. As a Catholic, I am embarrassed that they are using religion for political reasons.

13. So this Catholic is ASHAMED of his identity?
Or could it be that this person is likely not even a Catholic and is just a political operative pulling an Atwater? I wouldn't doubt if a number of these websites are started by the South Carolina mobsters working out of Bob Jones University. Funny thing is they HATE Catholics but excel at USING them for political ends.

10. Their email contact addresses are listed here

I suggest bombing the crap out of their mailboxes with questions about GOP Catholic politicians who are pro-choice, etc. Confront them with their hypocrisy.

5. So, who is this person saying Catholics should support?
(He? She? -- I didn't catch a pronoun) is clearly pro-labor, and pro-peace. What does that leave? Staying home?

9. They should immediately ...
... lose their tax exempt status. They may have the right to make political statements, but not at taxpayers expense.

I can hardly believe this isn't more of a big deal. These TAX EXEMPT religious organizations go overboard politically, but they continue to be tax-free!

11. Me thinks Catholics have short memories
They should take a stroll down memory lane and have a look at the past when the Church got too involved in politics. (Hint: think "reformation")

To ignore history and its lessons is a Special Kind of Stupid IMO.

12. a lot of rw catholics are running around proclaiming
stuff that the rest of us don't believe. See www.catholics.com and www.catholicism.org (these people have no standing in the church and don't publish their biographies).

The rest of us are sitting quietly in the pews and cringing at this stuff.

16. Is that all you can do?
Edited on Sat May-15-04 06:14 PM by hf_jai
I'm not a Catholic, so maybe I got no right to comment, but can't you do anything to fight back? Support liberal priests? Withhold money? Switch congregations? Write letters? Protest?

I don't know--I know it's a top-down organization--but I can't imagine that the answer is just "cringing" in the pews.

15. Bigwig Colorado Catholic official says - even voting for a candidate
that is pro-choice should be enough to prevent receiving communion. Story in LBN now.

We are witnessing the full throttle politization of the Church (US hierarchy, it would appear). Just interesting, though, how it is only DEMOCRATS that are targeted - not popular prochoice Catholic republicans like: Guiliani, Schwartzeneggar, Pataki, etc.

I was on your show in August with Norm DeForrest we talked about Felons voting or not. Since 9-11 I've been organizing a group of retired NYCPD guys to help survivor families with everyday "here and now" problems. Police work is 2% cops and robbers but 98% helping people solve practical problems. We are called the Dutch Uncle Project ( Dutch Uncle is NYC slang for a neighborhood guy who gives advice to it's young people). Its been great how people have pulled together on this - if you'd like some ground level views on this war let me know. I've still got contacts after all these years. Thanks again for having me on your show. Kevin

20. I used to be a Catholic
I got tired of the phony hypocrisy. Oh, and the sweat lodge ceremony during the harmonic convergence made me realize what real religion feels like.

My favorite song ever about the Catholic Church and the Vatican control is Tom Lehrer's "Vatican Rag":

Vatican Rag

First you get down on your knees,
Fiddle with your rosaries,
Bow your head with great respect,
And genuflect, genuflect, genuflect!

Do whatever steps you want if
You have cleared them with the Pontiff.
Everybody say his own
Kyrie eleison,
Doin' the Vatican Rag.

Get in line in that processional,
Step into that small confessional.
There the guy who's got religion'll
Tell you if your sin's original.
If it is, try playin' it safer,
Drink the wine and chew the wafer,
Two, four, six, eight,
Time to transubstantiate!

So get down upon your knees,
Fiddle with your rosaries,
Bow your head with great respect,
And genuflect, genuflect, genuflect!

Make a cross on your abdomen,
When in Rome do like a Roman;
Ave Maria,
Gee, it's good to see ya.
Gettin' ecstatic an' sorta dramatic an'
Doin' the Vatican
Rag!

21. This site is inconsequential ...
Edited on Sun May-16-04 11:05 AM by Finch
As a Catholic, I find this attempt to discredit Kerry pretty weak… aside from the abortion issue (and I’m mildly pro-life) they have very little against him imho, just lies and half truths even normally conservative Catholics like Gibson have been quite and Gibson has voiced his concern over Iraq on a number of occasions.
