...this isn't all that surprising or, I suspect, lasting. There's little elasticity in likely voters' real affiliation. Ask yourself, for example: is there any permutation of circumstances under which you'd back the Chimp for re-election?

I didn't think so.

And it's the same for the right, leaving the casual electorate who are swayed by every pinprick of positive or negative publicity.

The Bushies can still control the message of the election through their actions. For real security for Kerry, he needs to steal the definition of the major issues from the incumbent, like Reagan in 80 or Clinton in 92.
