I'd like a reasoned response from those of you who would rather McCain than Hillary.

If you just want to say "she lied" or something else which is not informative, pass this thread on by.

1. I don't know. Why do 28% of Hillary voters want to vote for McCain?

7. So you're saying those Obama supporters won't vote for Hill because she's a woman?
so does that mean that the 28% of Clinton supporters won't vote for him because he's black?

36. Only a stupid asshole would be moronic enough to...
support a liberal Democrat and then vote for a right wing republican.

There's too much of a disconnect there.

Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 12:16 PM by enki23
not only do a *significantly* higher percentage of hillary "supporters" say the same, but you come in here and try to stir this shit up for the other side without a fucking peep about the reverse? you're just... pathetic. incredible. obnoxious. and a lot more words i really can't use here.

both sides have a lot of fucking wrong, that's for sure. but that doesn't mean they're both *equally* wrong. not by a long fucking way. and those percentages make it clear which side has the cognitive dissonance blaring in their ears the loudest, without a doubt.

24. I read the other post and there wasn't "a fucking peep about the reverse". Funny that.
So take your "pathetic. incredible. obnoxious" indignation and rotate on it. I didn't know we were striving for equality in our wrongness. not by a long fucking way. If we are gaging the volume of the cognitive dissonance blaring in their ears, then we are fucked. But I don't expect you to see this, you are too busy pointing your finger and swearing at the people you will later need to win. THAT'S a winning strategy?

6. Who's Obmam?
It's a dumb poll. They have to pick one of the choices.

Also, considering the way Obama supporters treat Clinton and her supporters-- most of the threads on this board are just gleefully nasty garbage-- you should be surprised it isn't higher. Obviously they don't want to vote for Obama. I don't think they really want to vote for McCain. It's just what else are they going to say? Why would they vote for Obama? You hate them.

22. As a Dean supporter who vowed (fist clenched tightly to the heavens) never to vote Kerry...
I can tell ya, supporters of one candidate say a whole lotta stuff when upset, and when they calm down they vote democratic in the GE.

I swore up and down and sideways IRL an on DU that I'd NEVER vote Kerry. NEVER!!!!!!!!!

So much for THAT conviction. I voted Kerry with a vengeance; hell, I even put a Kerry/Edwards bumper-sticker on my brand new car!!

Things will change, just wait and see.

27. Speaking of "crossover Republicans"...
I asked this in the other thread (like this one)...but does anybody have any anecdotal stories of Republican crossovers voting for Hillary b/c they like her?

I've seen dozens of stories of family members, co-workers, friends, etc. that are crossing to Obama for this reason - I even have 3 of my own IRL.

I can't recall a Hillary crossover story that didn't include a Rush reference...

I'm genuinely curious.

29. Some of Obama's support is coming from moderates and independents,
who tend to dislike the Clintons. I think that accounts for the majority of the defectors.

Some are just Obama supporters pouting, many of which are just blowing smoke. I bet most of these will vote Hillary after all, but won't tell a pollster that beforehand.

Some like her but don't want another four years of the divisiveness that her presidency would signal. Better McCain face a hostile congress, I suppose.

Some may fear the symbolism of a woman being in power.

Some sincerely dislike her positions, and I admit I have misgivings about the involuntary nature of her health care proposal. (That's not a deal breaker for me, though.)

Some sincerely dislike Hillary, possibly turned off by campaign tactics or some other reason.

Some just like McCain better. McCain's strong point is supposedly national defense, although I think he's nuts. Some like his semi-conservative stances, which I can respect but disagree with.

30. Hard to believe!
Where I can understand 19% or more simply not voting in the GE if it were Hillary, I can't fathom any true Obama supporter voting for McBush under ANY circumstance.

Same goes for Hillary supporters.

34. Because...
...if she wins the nomination, it's by chicanery with the superdelegates at the convention, not because she had the most pledged delegates or the popular vote, neither of which she'll have by August.

That means she'll have pointed out the utter illegitimacy of her Presidential run and just how dysfunctional the Democratic Party has become, and I wouldn't vote for a thief and a snake-in-the-grass or support a Party of insider elitists even if it means voting for McCain.

I'm an independent, so I can vote any way I please without being a turncoat to anyone - and the Democratic Party and Hillary especially need to be punished if she is allowed to run for President.

If she loses to McCain, she's practically dead in the political landscape. She only took her Senate seat to run for President, and once that's gone, she has nothing else to really work for - so I'd do everything I could to hasten her exit from the national political scene.

Then Obama can try again in 2012 if the American people who supported him haven't completely given up on the system by then. I don't think people are really considering what's at stake beyond Democratic control of the Oval Office - there is an entire generation of Americans who will be utterly disillusioned with the political process if Hillary wins through a brokered convention in defiance of a lesser pledged delegate/popular vote count, not to mention the damage to Democratic support in the black community who will correctly identify the results as elitism in action.

That will have ramifications for decades to come.
