I think Hillary told the Bosnian Fantasy because she thought she'd get away with it.

I think Hillary told the Bosnian Fantasy because she thought she'd get away with it.
She was counting on a cowed (or lazy...take your pick.) media to not fact-check. They would cover "her" version and no one would care to look back to the old footage.

That's much too daunting a task for modern reporters in the mainstream.

However in the past few years things have changed radically. ANYONE can access just about ANYTHING that was ever broadcast.

The people are truly more powerful than they ever have been, at least as far as access to information is concerned.

Hillary underestimated the power of the people. Big time.

For someone who sees a conspiracy afoot anytime one of her endeavors fails it is only a matter of time before she is railing against free expression on the internet(s).

1. I think she believes it
She told herself it was true enough that she bought her own story. That's always a danger when you have a casual relationship with truth.

2. Yes indeed
Her whole fantastical story fell apart before her eyes thanks to the Tubes. She and her lousy campaign got owned. She actually LIED about something that was easily verifiable. What ELSE could she be lying about? God knows! In the words of Bill Clinton, "This is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen". Yes, Hillary Clinton is living in a fairy tale. Disney should make a movie about it.

3. The media didn't expose any of her other lies
SCHIP. The Irish Peace Process. Macedonia. NAFTA. Her campaign's racist attacks. The phony choking up. Winning FL & MI.

Why would she think they'd question her now.

5. A better question might be "why are they doing it now?"
I'm curious about that myself. She's gotten such a ridiculous free pass until now*; if this story gets traction, what changed?

* For anyone that seems counterintuitive to: how can you tell what candidate is being treated best by the media? It's the one complaining the loudest about how the media are treating him or her.

7. I think because the "Truth" was posted just about everywhere.
The Bosnian Fantasy expose' was a lie so blatant and laughable that it spread like a head cold at a daycare.

It turned out to me more popular than Jedi Boy, or the skateboarding dog.

By the time the media finally decided to show the footage? Just about everyone had already seen it anyway.

11. It can't be disputed
She's had every woman's group in the country attacking every media outlet any time they said a word against Hillary. With this story, there are a lot of respected female journalists who were on that trip, there's just no way for the Clintons to attack the credibility of these women, or call them sexist, etc. Plus, as has been said, it's all over YouTube and would be horrible journalism if they completely ignored it. They're doing their best to change the subject though.

When is somebody going to ask her why she didn't get her mug all over the place when she was supposedly opposing the invasion.

12. "why are they doing it now?"
My impression is that they are tired of the projection of the Clinton campaign. They've tried to turn so many of their sins into Obama sins that even the MSM noticed the pattern. Now the Tuzla and NAFTA stories are hitting at the same time, and the media are fresh out of things to say about the primaries, and nature loves a vacuum. So it grows.

17. They are waking up a little bit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YG00SWAqcvw

Personally I think she's got nobody but herself to blame. Not only did she leave herself open to being caught for things but then she went and gave people reason to look. If the campaign had kept the same tone it had before Texas and Ohio the media and the campaigns had been pretty passive and might be still. But when the kitchen sink strat came out followed by her and SNL berating the media for not "vetting" Obama she forgot that she could be vetted too, there were a few years and new claims from her now where she really hadn't been. When you play the refs they sometimes look harder at both of you. Works fine if you're clean and stay that way but not so much if you aren't.

4. Much like Bush she is so intoxicated with ego and power she thinks she's above facts and truth
and can create a hyper-stylized sense of truth that fits her needs. The ends justify the means.

9. Exactly. If I were told there were snipers and my child was on the plane?
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 02:54 AM by alphafemale
There is NO WAY I'd have gone through with the event.

No way in hell.

Is she a liar?

Does she have really bad judgment?

Well...we now know for certain she's a liar...

But neither being a liar or having piss poor judgment are qualities I want in a leader.

edit for a grammar correction

Yeah. I don't think she'd have told so bald-faced a lie if she'd have imagined the tapes were still out there.

15. In defense of Hillary Clinton
The media has already let her get away with so much ............. why not ............. after all if the clips had not started making the rounds on the internet it doesn't seem like the media would have had the energy to look at video from that far back. That would take like effort or something.

23. She said for years she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary.
Funny thing to say, since no one would have known who he was until she was 5 years old.

She finally backed off this ridiculous claim in just the the past couple of years I think.

20. Everybody pads their resume. I'm sure being told there were snipers
in the surrounding hills was unnerving.. Hillary probably had conversations with military leaders that Crow and Sinbad were not privy too.

Actually, not exactly moral.

Delusion?
False memory?
Lies?
Mis-speaking?
Sleep deprivation?

Look, anyway you cut it, I don't want anyone suffering that severely from any of the above having anything to do with running our nation.
